FINALLY HOLIDAY!!
Well, I gave it all daily these last 4 weeks causing me to have a 9.2 now, and the holiday is only a week, but I've never been so happy with a holiday. Now if you'll excuse me I'll go sleep for 21 hours now, too bad I have a party then...

COTY
After all the fun lately, maybe we should start quoting the best comments of the year?
Also, before everyone does it, are you allowed to quote yourself or does someone else have to nominate your comment?

What's the most memorable thing someone's told you in a game on here before?
Whether it's a taunt, a witty one-liner, or some really insightful piece of wisdom (whether for the game or real life), what's the most memorable thing you've heard in a webDiplomacy game?

Put it to a vote!
The votes are clearly there, at least 24 in the count provided in the link below. the Republican leadership continues to refuse to put a clean bill to a vote.

New rule: If you are going to claim...
... that this politician said this or that some study showed that, provide a citation.

I will do my best to follow this rule (it's good practice for elsewhere in life) and everyone else (hear me SillyPutty?) should do the same.

Why are the people most likely to speak out of their ass (draugnar, Botox) always the ones most likely to demand citations. Why are those who post all day (draugnar, krellin, tettleton chew) the quickest to call others work ethic into question? Psychologists want to weigh in?

Psychologists should do a study of webdip's rightwing community and cognitive dissonance.

Santa ... I don't know if I ever ask for citations, but hey, who needs reality when we can just insult people that have strong opinions and get tantalized for it...
Sylence (313 D)
16 Oct 13 UTC
Spot on, Santa!
I shall say nothing about the specific names you mention (Bo, for one, I must say hasn't made that kind of impression on me. But I don't follow the forum 100%... I've got to play the dam game too...)
But it's a remark of general validity concerning human nature.

When you meet a girl calling all the other girls "sluts" you know what she is up to herself, don't you... As guys who see "thieves" or "bloody alcoholics" everywhere... You know what they are...

Only an unemployed and who is really frustrated about having nobody to employ him, need fret about "all the lazy bummers" who do not "want to work".
The slave himself is typically the one who will most religiously defend slavery and denounce slaves who won't work and sacrifice themselves hard enough.

It is also a common behaviour to presumably "win the day" by demanding a citation, calling "straw man!" or as a conditioned reflex demand "Define!" as soon as they have nothing themselves to say.
For example: A response to this could be "Define nothing!" And so I am made speechless...
Well well...

I would like to write a particular essay on the "straw man" issue, but... ...yes, got to play Diplomacy too, don't I...

Can't you easily say "people are hypocrites" without throwing in insults that don't even apply? Can't people do that?

See, I just did it. I just made a point without insulting ANYONE.
steephie22 (182 D(S))
16 Oct 13 UTC
@Sylence... What the fuck are you talking about? You think slaves typically religiously defend slavery? Really? You think they didn't want to break free back when slavery was so common?
steephie22 (182 D(S))
16 Oct 13 UTC
Also the unemployed example is as horribly illogic as the slave one. Why would an unemployed person be pissed by other unemployed persons? What you claim to be true seems like quite the opposite of truth to me...
Then it obviously would not specify that YOU are a hypocrite.
Sylence (313 D)
16 Oct 13 UTC
Since the institution of slavery has reached a high peak in my own life time, Steephie, though it is not called by that name, I don't need to go back to antiquity to find out whether slaves typically strive to "break free". These days it is called "employment".
That was basically what "slavery" meant in antiquity: "Employment".
A bit simplified I grant - mainly because the mechanisms that forces people to employment in modern times are more complicated and entrenched than they were in antiquity.

The mistake modern men make is they assume ancient slavery was necessary a state of physical misery.
Some slaves did unhealthy and physically draining work, such as rowers and miners.
But this condition I suggest is more typical of the modern world - living and working in degrading environments and under degrading both mental and physical strain.

Santa, we had one conversation on here once where you thought I went a little overboard and I thought the same about you. Do you even remember what it was about? I really don't know why you seem so determined to pound me into the dirt at every chance you get. Maybe you're just that way but it really makes no sense.

Santa is just a disagreeable old fuck.

Plenty of us bitch about welfare abusers because we *pay* for the abusers of the system. That's right, my taxes go to paying for people on welfare, some who need and deserve it and some who are just fucking lazy and need to get off their fat asses and go work at McDonalds or something.

Confused about support holds
I'm France in a gunboat game GB36WTA.
http://webdiplomacy.net/board.php?gameID=126952

Last turn, England support held my fleet in North Sea from 2 locations, Ed and Lon. My fleet in North Sea tried to move to Holland and was blocked. T hen my fleet in Nsea was dislodged by Nor with support from Den. Why didn't my fleet, plus 2 support holds, prevent the attack from Norway? What am I missing?

What happened to my points? Mods, anyone? I went from 200+/- to 0 overnight. Is there a maximum number of active games one can join? I'm in several 10-20 pt games, but at 0 pts. obviously cannot join anymore.

2013 Pissing Troll Awards... You Know Who You Are!
The Forum is quite free and open, given this is a DIPLOMACY site, not religious or political. I came here for Diplomacy, but have joined some unrelated and interesting discussions. However, with the govt shutdown, the Pissing Trolls have come out in force -- crazy, insulting and clogging the boards -- they need to be named.

Does anyone else do this, start playing a game, and then think, you know what I'll help my neighbour win? Why would you do this, there was ample opportunity to stab?
This is an anonymous gunboat btw and these players don't know each other.
I suppose this is one of the dangers of playing non-WTA, people play for points even if it means they lose the game.
