World of Warplanes
Being quite a fan of World of Tanks, I was very keen to try "World of Warplanes" which has recently been released.

Kudos to the YF-23. Much sexier the the F-117 Nighthawk.
I would back the kingcobra
Gunfighter06 (224 D)

Hey Draug do you think that the YF-22 should have beat the YF-23?
Draugnar (0 DX)
26 Aug 13 UTC
IIRc - the 22 was actually the better performer but the 23 was cheaper. Personally, go with the better performer when you want state of the art, but that isn't how the US government works. I'm reminded of the line from Armageddon: You know we're sitting on four million pounds of fuel, one nuclear weapon and a thing that has 270,000 moving parts built by the lowest bidder. Makes you feel good, doesn't it?
Jamiet99uk (808 D)
26 Aug 13 UTC
The YF-22 won the competition because it best met the design brief. The 23 had many positive qualities, but the design brief clearly envisaged an aircraft with air-to-air combat as its main forte. The YF 22 was supermanuverable in a way that the 23 wasn't, partly due to its use of thrust vectoring. As an air-to-air fighter it is clearly a superior design.
Gunfighter06 (224 D)
26 Aug 13 UTC
The YF-23 was stealthier, faster, cheaper, at the expense of reduced maneuverability and slightly lower payload. Oh, and the YF-23 is also way sexier than the YF-22/F-22
Jamiet99uk (808 D)
26 Aug 13 UTC
Faster in terms of top speed, but less maneuverable, as you say. Since the brief was for the best possible air-to-air fighter, the YF22 was the best design, in terms of meeting the spec.
Gunfighter06 (224 D)
26 Aug 13 UTC
If the YF-23 had the benefit of thrust-vectoring, it would have been equally as good (and arguably better than) the YF-22.
Gunfighter06 (224 D)
26 Aug 13 UTC
Also, the F-22 is having a ton of problems with the oxygen and life support systems.

You're advertizing games made by the Belarusian company Wargaming.net? Interesting, that's the first Belarusian company I've ever heard of. BOYCOTT!
Gunfighter06 (224 D)

It's such bullshit too. Guess which nationality has the strongest tanks in the game?
Jamiet99uk (808 D)
27 Aug 13 UTC
It depends what you mean by "strongest", Gunfighter. Some of the tanks with the highest survivability are in the British tank tree. Some of the toughest tanks for their tier are Russian. Some of the German machines are pretty handy, too. France and the USA have some superb tank destroyers. All nations have some excellent vehicles, and some poorer ones. A lot of it depends on your tactics.
JECE (1248 D)
29 Aug 13 UTC
Well, I'd assume that Soviet tanks would be given justice, but I meant that I don't want to have anything to do with the last dictatorship in Europe.
Draugnar (0 DX)
29 Aug 13 UTC
So belarussia is a dictatorship. The company isn't. I'd have a bigger issue with buying Chinese shit because of their human rights violations and the conditions their workers are forced to tolerate.
Gunfighter06 (224 D)
29 Aug 13 UTC
It's an ongoing joke in the WoT community that the developers consistently give the Soviet vehicles a bit of an edge.

But seriously, I am in love with the American line right now. T29, bitches.

getting back in to Combat Mission
haven't played for a long time since I'm on a Mac and the classic CM games don't work anymore. I'm excited to see Battlefront has come out with new WWII CM. But they're a bit pricy. Not sure if I should get Normandy or Fortress Italy? Anyone play these games?

Alacriousness
Problem of politicians regarding Syria: the alacrity to do something. If Cameron and co just hold their breaths for a second, wait for what the UN has to say, wait for what other nations have to say, they'll get their mandate. There's simply no rush.

gameID=125205 is already past the halfway point, with 9/17 players having already joined as I type this (for the math impaired, we only need 8 more players to begin). Deadline is September 6th, so that should be plenty of time to fill all the seats.

So the British govt don't want to get involved in Syria but the Prime Minister does, who are we to stop him, I'll even offer to drive him to the airport. I'm sure he'll tell Assad exactly what he thinks of him.

Would F IRI - ENG cut the unwanted support move? According to my logics, yes. Or am I missing some details?

This has been tried before but I cannot find the thread. I want to start a series of 36-hour gunboat games with password. No special rules except to ready promptly when possible. PW will not be sent to those with a history of resignations. I will start the game(s) as soon as there is interest.

Ankara Crescent
I remember playing this once on webdip a while back, and thought it would be nice to try it again. If you are wondering how to play, the objective is to reach Ankara, without breaking any rules or conventions set in place by Stovald and Avalon Hill, if you need to brush up on the rules, you can go to your nearest distributor of the new updated edition ruleset
