NFL Week 5: Pick 'em--Wherein, Hey, There Are Actually a Lot of Good/Interesting Games!
So we kick off the week tonight with a game which looked like crap at the beginning of the year and now...looks slightly less like crap with the Bills and Browns going at it. Seattle meets Indy, the Niners and Texans square off on Sunday Night, the Raiders and Chargers play a LATER Sunday Night game no one outside California will watch, Pats/Bengals, Lions/Packers, and so on...so, once again, we ask you to...PICK 'EM!

There are a lot of educators that are exactly as you describe. There are also a lot of educators that are the hardest working, most dedicated and most passionate people I've ever met in any field. I imagine the same can be said for government workers, even if the ones we all look at and judge are not always that way.

And really, it is that nuanced. If you get paid 80 hours, you'll be jacking around for 10 of them. That's no secret.
krellin (80 DX)
05 Oct 13 UTC
Bo - I have never said all *educators* as people are bad. FAR from it, in fact. The *system* in which they operate, on the other hand, is another thing altogether.

You must distinguish between person and process to understand where my concerns lie.

That being said, Putin, as a self-confesed child-hating "educator" is, no doubt, amongst the absolute *worst* of educators. His confessions regarding his attitudes aside, the simple prevalence of his lack of reading skills, his gross perversion of history, etc, demonstrates that by the mere fact of his intellectual incompetence he is a terrible educator...not to mention being a horrible person to boot.
bo_sox48 (5202 DMod(G))

The system is a mess, and I know you never said it. I'm backing you up in my own convoluted way.
krellin (80 DX)
05 Oct 13 UTC
Bo - as for "working 80 hours = 70 hours work + 10 hours jacking around" - that isn't even the discussion, really. In the busines world, depending on who you structure a contract with a client, if you bid against other business and promise to deliver a piece of work at a set quality standard, and say it will take 80 hours plus materials, and the client accepts you bid at 80 hours...and after 50 hours you can deliver the product at the specified level of quality, then you are legally allowed to bill 80 hours *if* you have the proper language in your contract. ON the flip side, if it takes you 110 hours, chances are damned good you will only be billing 80 hours.
bo_sox48 (5202 DMod(G))
05 Oct 13 UTC
So you're talking legal work, I'm talking actually working when you're legally working versus just legally working. Okay, cool.
Putin33 (111 D)

Good to know you white collar types pretend to work for almost double the hours you really work.
krellin (80 DX)
06 Oct 13 UTC
Putin - if the contract is agreed upon, there is nothing dishonest about it.

On the other hand, an asshole "educator" such as yourself that admits he hates students and children, and who admits he passes people that do not deserve to be passed - YOU are an admitted fraud, and a thief, every time you cash a paycheck.

No surprise there, though, as your entire political philosophy thrives on the concepts of stealing from others to benefit those that refuse to work. So fuck off, shit sucker.

Krellin and Draugnar have no basis to whine about others getting stuff for free, or getting paid to do no work ever again. It's clear they charge people while sitting on their ass playing videogames at work. Frauds.

Draugnar (0 DX)

I guess my cutting my client a break and only billing them 12 hours when I could have billed them 24 raised a ruckus...
krellin (80 DX)
06 Oct 13 UTC
Putin - tell us again how much you hate children and students, and how you give kids passing grades even though you never taught them what they were supposed to learn. That's a great story. IN other words, you have openly confessed you get paid for doing no work, and not meeting your clients requirements.

Draug and I, on the hand, since we work for private companies, would get fired if we failed to satisfy our employers. And since we are both still working, we clearly meet those requirements.

You, on the other hand...piece of shit sucking government employee...have no expectation of success, and if anyone DARES to challenge you, and ask you to prove that you are qualified, you throw a tantrum and blame everyone else for your absolute failure as both an employee and as a human being.

Putin, do you have ANY CLUE what they are actually doing? Are you being sarcastic or are you actually dumb enough to trash someone you've never met? Or do you just not have the guts to do it to people in person so you take it out here instead?
Putin33 (111 D)
06 Oct 13 UTC
Botox, you're really defending these people who routinely trash teachers even though they haven't a clue what teaching is, and routinely trash government workers even though they don't know what they do but they sit around in their worthless white collar private sector jobs acting like they're workaholics? Ok then.

No, I am attacking you. You and your epic asshat rants about people you don't know that you don't understand. You really think Draug and krellin aren't doing their job? They both still have their job, that tells me they are doing enough. So instead of actually worrying about people in your own field and own place of employment that aren't doing their jobs and bringing YOU down, you choose to make your enemies on the internet.

If you can put forward some actual evidence besides the fact that they have computers to say they don't deserve their job, go for it. Till then, shut your fucking face.
Putin33 (111 D)
06 Oct 13 UTC
My co-workers do their job. These losers express their joy at people being furloughed and people losing their services while admitting they bill people for work they don't do. That their employer is fine with that doesn't make it right. It means there is no accountability in the private sector.

GFY.
Invictus (240 D)
06 Oct 13 UTC
Putin33 doesn't believe there should even be a private sector, so of course he thinks krellin and Draugnar don't deserve their jobs.

Although I have to say, have worked at a billable hour firm for the last year and likely for the rest of my life once I graduate, the claim of billing 80 hours when you don't do 80 hours of work is quite bizarre. Working an extra 20 minutes to add an extra hour is one thing, but charging for multiple hours you didn't work? I have hard time believing clients will ever stand for that.
krellin (80 DX)
06 Oct 13 UTC
PUTIN - Tell us again how, as an educator, you hate children and openly admitted that you lie on grades and pass students that don't deserve to pass. I *loved* when you openly admitted what a fraud and horrible human being you are.

For the record, Putin, you asshole, I don't bill hourly - I bill when I produce a product my client wants and they purchase it, regardless of the hours involved. Fucking moron.
krellin (80 DX)
06 Oct 13 UTC
And PUTIN, you worthless, illiterate shit sucker, I have not trashed teachers in this web. I know that reading izzz hardzzz for such a smrt douche as yourself....but let me say it slowly: THE EDUCATION SYSTEM IS BROKEN..........the teachers operate WITHIN the system.

YOU yourself have admitted to cheating on students grades *within this thread* in order to pass them, and therefore blame the system, you fucking asstard.

Your problem is that I dared have (GASP!!!) a discussion with my student's teacher AT CONFERENCES ...you know, where you are supposed to talk to teacher. And you take great offense that I discussed with her a topic SHE BROUGHT UP first.

What a total fucking assclown you are. Are you that afraid of a performance review that you think teachers should never be talked to? Is you conscinece *that* guilty regarding what a truly living piece of shit you are on the job?

As for Draug and I and every other private sector employee, we typically get, at a minimum, annual performance reviews, but even apart from that a failure to perform on the job means *terminiation*, as there are enough qualified employees looking for work that *nobody* in the private sector is secure -- we don't have fucktard government union protecting us when we come to work and spend all day jacking off while spying on the little girls bathroom like you, ass clown.
Draugnar (0 DX)

Hey SillyPutty. I estimated my that job would take 20-24 hours. The contract was signed for $5000. I only charged them for $2500. They still have $2500 they can use elsewhere. It's called a fixed bid contract and I actually had no obligation to reduce it. So I am immoral and somehow fraudulent for reducing the amount I charged on a fixed bid even though I have plenty of instances where I don't make $200-$250 per hour (wish I got to keep all of that) and still send a bill for the exact agreed to amount.

Fixed bid contract. Look it up, you fucking anti-Capitalist shit sucker.
Invictus (240 D)
06 Oct 13 UTC
Now, that makes sense. As does the 80 hours thing now that I re-read the thread a little more closely. Doesn't seem like the smartest contract to sign, but that's life.
Draugnar (0 DX)

The previous 10 weeks I averaged 68 hours per week of actual work but I work weekends (getting ready to go down and deploy the latest patch from engineering on the QA servers along with the workflow code I did yesterday) and while it is what I reported to my company, I know it won't all get billed to the client. Last week was an easy week as the second UAT session only found a couple hundred small issues and 2 or 3 big ones and we had two weeks between it and the next UAT on the 14th. I and my team have 1 large issue (the aforementioned workflow that got redefined in the second session when they discovered they hadn't sent me the latest diagram for the functional specs) and maybe 60 of the little issues that my three guys are splitting up and have almost completed. So while I will code on the weekend this weekend, I shouldn't have anything to code next weekend and I don't have to code 14 hours per weekday.

But what time clock pinchers here don't understand is my job is a job of responsibilities. I either meet the deadlines and budgets on a regular basis or my job is at risk. If I consistently beat deadlines and come in under budget like I did on the other contract,a making more per hour for my company and still saving the client money so they keep coming back, them I get to see good end of year bonuses. Last year,y bonus was over $17000 (yes 17 thousand) and I like bonuses. But being a job of responsibilities and being a creative job (despite Putin's prior dispersions, software engineering is engineering) one occasionally steps back from a problem to think about it and brain dead fun like trolling a forum is perfect for that. So when I do post during business hours it is either lunchtime or I am stuck on something and working it through I'm the back of my mind. Right now I am working through a tweak to a validation checker that is part of the product engineers code but that they won't be able to deliver for 6 months and the client needs before then. Services engineers get all the fun "we know we don't have it in the product, but can you male it work until we do?" tasks.

In fairness, it really looked like you were based on earlier posts. If somebody who worked billable hours in a law firm could misunderstand what you're saying it shouldn't be too surprising an over-educated latter day communist could.

But really, nothing is less interesting than what a stranger does at work.

I care about the details of his job! Fascinating....lol But he is right, is some shit sucking communist piece of vag-rag calls him a fraud, he has a right to defend himself. Best way to make more money out of money?
So there's a bunch of money I'm not planning to spend for at least 2 years. Can I best keep it on a bank account as usual or are there more lucrative options that have about the same risk level as a bank account (practically none, since in this case the government returns the money if the bank goes boom)?

When is it OK to start watching basketball again?
I stopped watching basketball altogether after the LeBron James "Decision" and strike-shortened season turned the NBA into a soap opera telenovela. Is the nonsense over yet? Are people playing basketball again? Like they mean business? Is there a new Bill Laimbeer out there fouling out and taking a bow before a booing crowd?

reputation
i think you can get along fine until you pass a certain threshold of douchebaggery, then you get a reputation, and a flood of stories get brought up in everyday gossip and your cause is lost.

so does anybody have strategies for maximizing douchebaggery without losing reputation? i think the only hope is to conform. if you are a nonconformist, then any small thing will seem big because people will constantly hear of it because you are often talked about.
