For whatever reason, Zizek over here thinks I'm a Serb or a Russian. Probably because Slovenes hate Serbs and adore Germans (even though you wouldn't have a country without them), so he thinks I must be one.
People keep giving me ethnicities I don't have. I love Serbia, but I'm not a Serb. I love Russia, but I'm not a Russian. I love Greece, but aside from some vague and diluted Greek descent, I'm not Greek.
I'm an Anglo-Saxon because I'm a white American who speaks English as my primary language. All this genealogical 'descent' stuff that we Americans are into is weird, and speaks to lack of cohesion of a nation tied together by nothing but an idea. Seeing vaguely "Irish" Irish-Americans tattoo themselves with all this Irish stuff is just bizarre, or Italian, or anything else.
Genealogically I didn't even know what 'descent' I had until recently, since I'm an adoptee. I learned my birth surname is Hungarian and that on my mother's side I'm of Hungarian and Irish descent. On my father's side my surname is English and I'm of English, German, and Greek descent. My adopted surname is also English. My given name is Irish. My adopted parents are of English & German descent on one side and South Slavic, English & German descent on the other. My father's side is of various protestant denominations and my mother is Catholic. I was raised Catholic, confirmed even.
Culturally I'm about as Americanized as I can imagine being and my parents have nothing whatsoever to do with my politics.
So shut up about my ethnicity. I never denied my heritage as people claim nor do I despise & loathe it. I think the Anglo-Saxon language is the most beautiful ever created, and modern English one of the most beautiful. Contrary to what people claim, I'm an Anglophile in addition to being a Slavophile. I just think the people from England on here tend to be hysterically anti-American and full of themselves. Octavious & Father Snitch excepted.
