Xbox Live Arcade Diplomacy Game
Just a idea i thought of while on my xbox. Anyone else think it is a good idea? If it had 7 player matches and functionality like this website (with 1 day or more turn systems + plus live games) I think I would pay at least 10 bucks to purchase it as long as it was simple but still got the diplomacy feel.

Those Times When Someone's Opinion Is...Just Wrong...(NFL QBs?)
...as I'm sure mine often is? ;) Well, here's a multi-million dollar example:
http://sports.yahoo.com/blogs/nfl-shutdown-corner/joe-flacco-thinks-nfl-best-quarterback-005500221.html
Yeah...I like Flacco as a QB, I honestly do...but in a league with Peyton, Brady, Eli, Aaron Rodgers, Drew Brees...for starters...no. NOT the best in the NFL. But...who is--rank the QBs?

What does an economic crisis mean to you?
Just curious.. what do you think when you hear the distant term "economic crisis" on television, the news, or from the general population?

I'm just a student getting through my miserable life, searching for motivation in this supposedly upcoming damned world.

"if you are going to say that kids should not be punished if their parents are too stupid, then you are ALSO saying that I should not benefit if my parents are too smart/too successful, right?"

No, I don't think this is the case at all. I just thing there should be some minimum standard that the government holds people to. If parents want better for their kids and have the means, great, so much the better.

".I never said investing in Engineers is a waste of money, did I???? "

Then I clearly misunderstood you. If you don't support initiatives like the ones from NSF (which it seems you don't), then who is supporting engineering initiatives? Just DARPA? If so, you're really not changing anything, just putting a different label on the same thing.

"I would ask you to take 1 day out of your life...JUST ONE....and research WHERE all of your favorite technolgies evolved from."

That's rather presumptuous. I'm very familiar with what technologies military funding has brought to us. I'm also familiar with what it hasn't.

P.S.

My winter jacket is 25 years old and made of leather.

I just thing there should be some minimum standard that the government holds people to: Then I encourage you to walk in to a government funded ghetto at night, Mr. White Guy....see what Government Standards have wrought.....I DARE YOU....

I'm very familiar with what technologies military funding has brought to us. I'm also familiar with what it hasn't.: THEN ENLIGHTEN US. i GUARANTEE i CAN find more offshoots of miltary technology in your life than you can find off-shoots of NON-military technology.

THAT BEING SAID....Do YOU want to pay taxes to fund the next Bill Gates so that HE can get rich off of your investment (i.e. TAXES) while you remain some poor stupid ignorant schmuck???

@Damian.....you have made ZERO relevant comments. Fcuk off, bitch, or make an actual contribution to the conversation instead of just issuing personal insults. You EXEMPLIFY the loser, the moron that has NO BETTER thoughts than to just insult others. So....fuck off..
Sorry, but are you saying it would be better for people if we let the next bill gates get a second rate education and amount to nothing?
abgemacht (1076 D(G))

First, let's try to stay on topic: I'm talking about research funding, not housing projects.

Second, I agree that the military has funded many important things (GPS, Internet, autonomous vehicles, etc), but they haven't funded *everything* of importance (such as the transistor, perhaps the most important invention in human history).

"THAT BEING SAID....Do YOU want to pay taxes to fund the next Bill Gates so that HE can get rich off of your investment (i.e. TAXES) while you remain some poor stupid ignorant schmuck???"

I have no problem paying taxes that go to funding research. You know why? Because I get some of the benefits too. I may not get filthy rich, but I do get a computer to work and play on.

@Abge...NO you aren't....you are lumping them ALL in to one subject, unless you have THE BALLS to make the differentiation! So man up, Abge....State you thought. Do "stupid people" that lose on standardized test get the same social benefit (i.e. $$$$$$) as YOU do, Mr. White Guy???? If the Feds are involved...you know....let's be intellectually honest here....if you are man enough...

@krellin

I'm sorry, but I literally couldn't even parse that last post of yours.

What is your question?
"
"THAT BEING SAID....Do YOU want to pay taxes to fund the next Bill Gates so that HE can get rich off of your investment (i.e. TAXES) while you remain some poor stupid ignorant schmuck???"

I have no problem paying taxes that go to funding research. You know why? Because I get some of the benefits too. I may not get filthy rich, but I do get a computer to work and play on."

Also:
I'd much rather have it happen in America (or the uk but that's not what we're talking about) than somewhere else. IP is pretty much the biggest thing we have left going for us. I agree that is bad and we should try and get other stuff here, production, jobs all that i think should be american, but that doesn't mean we should just drop all intellectual ventures because we are spending too much and have spent too much over too long.
One distinction, there's a difference between rising standardized testing&no child left behind vs funding research and investing in the education of kids.

OK, this is becoming unclear, so let me reiterate my points:

1) Non-military government funding (such as NSF) is important for research, which, ultimately, benefits the country as a whole.

2) Research funding is useless if there is no one to do research, which is why I think education and STEM encouragement at a young age is important.

3) I think the Fed should be responsible for 1) supplying some minimum level of support for education for everyone (the rest to be picked up by the state and local government) and 2) supply additional funding for special programs, such as AM's STEM program.

Is that clearer?
Do you even read what other people (or you yourself) post krellin? I don't mean to be disrespectful, but you just berated us for talking about the next bill gates by saying how bill gates and mr apple (mr apple? how does a new zealand agricultural company get into this) were not government funded. But we were only on the topic because you had earlier asked, and when you put it so eloquently how can i resist quoting, "Do YOU want to pay taxes to fund the next Bill Gates so that HE can get rich off of your investment (i.e. TAXES) while you remain some poor stupid ignorant schmuck???"

So we were both saying that we really wouldn't mind funding the next bill gates with some of our taxes. since, you know, we're pretty happy with what the first one brought us

World War III has started, it's not as crass as dropping bombs, it's much more subtle that that. It's an economic war.
What country is growing rapidly on the back of a huge debt crisis in the West?
What happens when China stop funding perpetual American over-spending?
Right-wing Americans argue for lower taxes for the rich and justify it by talking about trickle-down, that is a joke. People need to live by their own means and not constantly borrow to sustain their lifestyles.
When you borrow constantly from a country and then use that money to buy goods from the country you borrowed the money from, this is an unsustainable economic model and will end in tears.
Every family understands the value of balancing your budget i.e. spending what you earn, when will govts learn this.
Govts need to balance budgets in the medium to long term, the sooner they realise this the better.....even if it means higher taxes
I think i'll definitely do something related to discrete mathematics, because i like math and especially find the puzzle solving aspect of that fun, and i really have liked all my science courses i've taken so far (I am lucky in that i have had some really great teachers, especially since i started high school) so i think i'll try and do something in physics too, if i can, but i don't really know at this point what I want to do professionally/what i want to major in. Part of that is I still have time to choose, i'm only a sophomore, but part of it is there is a lot of fields i really enjoy and i think i could be good at so it's hard to pick a topic and say i love this more than anything else i do.

2Abge....seriously, dude....wtf are you talking about.... I know it's easy to be some non-tax-paying asshole that benefits from Federl funding and therefore supports ANYTHING that give you a financial benefit...

NSF -- WTF is that? You are saying that ANY education that MIGHT eventually e=benefit the country shoud be funded...OK...then the FEDERAL GOVERNMENT SHOULD RAISE ALL BABIES FROM BIRTH. It is settled. Abge is right.

Abge thinks that Federal Funding of research is useless with funding....and tacitly agress tha funging should be ONY for government beniefit...and therefore takess all the governmentraised babies from #1 and raises them ass government slaves.....it is only reasonable...

3. Thinks Feds shoudl provide MINIMUM level of education. Funny...as a PARENT...*****I***** provided the minimum level of eduation to my kids, ASSHOLE!!! *****I***** taught them colors and shapes. ******I*******t8uaght them colors and big versus small.****** *****I****** motherfucker ****TAUGHT MY KIDS****** NOT THE FUCKIG SCHOOLS.

You ***idiots**** that think the fucking GOVERNMENT id the end-all and be-all of parenting....I pity your stupid fucking kids. Because my kids will be HIRING your kids as janitors.....

Stupid fucking idiot liberals....

ABGE...You want to be a Janitor? WHY NOT? Arrognat prick...it's HONEST WORK!!! And NOT EVERYONE can do it....so maybe YOU should do it....bitch?

Oh....ABGE THING HE IS ABOVE DOING MANUAL LABOR LIKE JANITOR WORK....

So...Apparently you are too stupid...or TOO ILL-INFORMED...to defend your ideas.

Abge....pathetic....

Amazing that somebody as ILL-EQUIPPED intelledctually as Abge gets to be a Mod. Mabe you shold go whine to your bitch pysch girlfriend and ask her for advice. Oh...wait...she'l say "Ban them....and then suck me off...."

Discrete math is a bunch of fun. So is numerical analysis, which lends itself well to Discrete. Unfortunately, I find programming to be rather tedious, which makes those two math fields rather untenable for me.

@ABGE -- MORON...Explain how the National Science Foundatiuon supports the Constitution. What the fuck don't YOU understand about the LAW????

You can ignore facts all you want and make *passionate* please to the contrary...but ***SUPPORT YOUR FUCKING ARGUMENT*** IDIOT! If you support that the Fedealk Government SHOULD support science BEYOND the Constituion....then ****I*** want to get a Federalk grant to research eliminating African Americans...because it is prety easy to make the argument that they commit an large majority of crimes/murders relative to their population density.

Reasonable, yes?
So...ABGEMACHT support banning African Americans....Thanks, Abge!! I appreciate your support of science!!!
Also, I (And i think at this point it's basically just the three of us) didn't say anything about your opacity to casual reading because 1) he'd already said it
2) i kind of assume you are intentionally doing it, since it takes effort to type like that unless it is habit and this is the first time i've seen you talk like this,

@Damian.....you have made ZERO relevant comments. Fcuk off, bitch, or make an actual contribution to the conversation instead of just issuing personal insults. You EXEMPLIFY the loser, the moron that has NO BETTER thoughts than to just insult others. So....fuck off..

Easy enough to claim I'm adding nothing, when you choose to ignore any content I do post.

example, post 1: Now I'm by no means claiming that Obama is doing a good Job, with your economy.

But I mean "the five former Democratic Presidents (Bill Clinton, Jimmy Carter, Lyndon B. Johnson, John F. Kennedy, and Harry S. Truman) all reduced public debt as a share of GDP, while the last four Republican Presidents (George W. Bush, George H. W. Bush, Ronald Reagan, and Gerald Ford) all oversaw an increase in the country’s indebtedness"

The Republicans won't necessarily do any better.

(Bearing in mind my Canadian-ness)
The same pattern is present in Canada, where the Liberal party, typical did a far better job reducing debt, than our Conservative party.

Given the track record, and other, poor policy decisions the Republicans might make, isn't it kind of a wash to pick one or the other. History suggests the Republicans will mismanage it too.

Finally, as the the original question. The economic crisis, to me means a chance for change, when things fall apart rebuilding them, in a smarter fashion. And good riddance, the political and economic system, needs a real good shake up.

Finally Krellin, if you're sheltering your kids, and keeping them from knowing about the financial issues, you're contributing to the generation that has no idea what's going on, and thinks its all going to wash over.

One possible quasi attack, the rest an explanation of why your analysis of the political situation is flawed, and my take on the OP's question.

The rest has been short posts, pointing out why your arguments are missing the point of Octavious's posts.

The only, and I mean only person attack was my sarcastic apology, that he had listened to enough of your rants to tell when you're being sarcastic.
Grand total, one no content post. The rest directly related to the topic at hand.
Explain to me how you miss obvious facts like this?
