Live Games - process delay
I've recently played a live game for the first time in a few months, and I'm finding that the timer counts down to "Now", but then it actually takes 30-40 seconds to process the orders. This means people are able to enter or change orders *after* the phase should have ended.

Political Views
The campaigns of Clinton and Trump have been running for a little over a year now and political tensions have been running high in the United States. As someone who's relatively new to this site, I couldn't help but wonder whether webdiplomacy players tend to be more liberal or conservative.

Game Titles
As I peruse other people's games, I've often been amused by game titles. It's a shame we can't see who the clever title authors are. It may not be wise during the game, but it would be cool if it were displayed after the game was over.

I think it would vastly stem the tide of illegal immigration. Tunnels greatly restrict the flow of illegals through the currently open border. Additionally, the wall would go underground as well, so tunnels would have to be dug deeper.
VashtaNeurotic (2394 D)

Wait...you think they use....tunnels to cross over. You do realize that planes fly over walls....and that at least 40% of illegal immigrant just over stay their visas?

How far underground would the wall go?
VashtaNeurotic (2394 D)

Yes....because there are no ways over a wall that you can't police every inch of. Ladders don't exist, ropes don't exist, there will be no worn down parts and certainly there are no things that fly......
TrPrado (461 D)
09 Oct 16 UTC
Because the deeper underground, the more digging, which means more labor, and more labor means higher cost.
VashtaNeurotic (2394 D)

And certainly a wall is what will stop the incentive structure that causes people to illegally immigrant.

It's not a dictator ship. President can't just do what ever he pleases. You can change the president all you want. If change is really wanted start with the lower leveled possitions witch is majority of gov't.

"Yes....because there are no ways over a wall that you can't police every inch of. Ladders don't exist, ropes don't exist, there will be no worn down parts and certainly there are no things that fly......"

I haven't seen a lot of 35-50 feet ladders, and I doubt illegal immigrants would be able to carry them. A rope requires someone to climb up there first. There are ID checks at airports.

As for how deep underground the wall would go, I'm sure Trump would hire experts to determine that.

"And certainly a wall is what will stop the incentive structure that causes people to illegally immigrant."

Are you suggesting the US crashes its economy again or builds up Mexico's? The only way to stop illegals is at the border.

"Social Darwinism holds just as true as natural Darwinism."
You're funny, and sound an awful lot like you've got a rumbling in your tummy for Irish babies. Natural Darwinism isn't 100% an accurate model of evolution either.

"Trump will increase police strength, stop the lawlessness in our cities, stop riots by BLM"
No he won't. Those are way too local for him to have the ability to deal with. And "increase police strength" is one of the most vague assertions anyone could put on a platform.

Regarding the veterans thing, it took an insane amount of media scrutiny to get him to do anything, and it took months to make the donations promised.

"Clinton, who wants them all made citizens so they can vote for her in 2020."
That's a pretty bold statement.

"Minimalist plans are better than the bureaucracy and communism that Obamacare represents."
Hospitals are privately owned, and so are insurance companies. The US doesn't have healthcare anywhere approaching the socialistic levels of, say, the UK, even when considering the privatization their system has gone through in the past 30 years.

"If change is really wanted start with the lower leveled possitions witch is majority of gov't."

Immigration is a federal power. Focusing locally wouldn't solve that.

http://www.homedepot.com/p/Werner-40-ft-Aluminum-Extension-Ladder-with-250-lb-Load-Capacity-Type-I-Duty-Rating-D1340-2/100664582

Also I'm certain not all Airports do ID checks, especially if they are small and are perhaps...bribed.

"Are you suggesting the US crashes its economy again or builds up Mexico's? The only way to stop illegals is at the border."

No I'm simply saying that wall or no wall, that plenty of people will still want to illegally immigrate (of the ones who don't just overstay their visas) and there is always a way of smuggling people across borders (especialy when some have fone it for decades). There are always holes in security, so unless you address the root cause, you won't stop or even cause a dent in the illegal immigration rate, and even if I underestimate the effectiveness of a really tall wall that costs billions a year to maintain and causes several other negative externalities, it is simply not worth the cost and is not the best way of handling immigration.

"You're funny, and sound an awful lot like you've got a rumbling in your tummy for Irish babies."

Funny thing, Swift supported protectionism, believed in patriotism, and was an anti-Semite. I also don't support giving incentive to childbirth, which Democrats do support (support for single mothers).

"Natural Darwinism isn't 100% an accurate model of evolution either."

It's much more accurate than our current social model.

"No he won't. Those are way too local for him to have the ability to deal with."

He can absolutely send in the national guard to quell riots.

"And "increase police strength" is one of the most vague assertions anyone could put on a platform."

Give them more leeway to perform their duties.

"Regarding the veterans thing, it took an insane amount of media scrutiny to get him to do anything, and it took months to make the donations promised."

He was doing research on which charities to give to.

"That's a pretty bold statement."

This is from Clinton's campaign website: "We need comprehensive immigration reform with a pathway to full and equal citizenship."

"Hospitals are privately owned, and so are insurance companies."

Obama wants everyone to have health insurance. That's communistic.

"The US doesn't have healthcare anywhere approaching the socialistic levels of, say, the UK"

Did I say we should be aspiring towards the UK?

It's $389. I'm not sure many illegals would be willing to make the investment, knowing they could be deported. It's also 90 pounds, so good luck lugging it across a desert.

"Also I'm certain not all Airports do ID checks, especially if they are small and are perhaps...bribed."

Accepting bribes would hold much more serious consequences than being deported, so I don't believe many airports would be inclined to accept bribes. You're also assuming that illegal immigrants, who are fleeing poverty, have money to bribe with.

"There are always holes in security, so unless you address the root cause, you won't stop or even cause a dent in the illegal immigration rate,"

Security will absolutely stop illegal immigration, especially if used along with deportation. Politicians just don't want that security because it would hurt their interest groups.

"it is simply not worth the cost and is not the best way of handling immigration."

Anything is worth enforcing the law because law is the cornerstone of democracy.

"He can absolutely send in the national guard to quell riots."
That would require a national emergency declared by Congress.

"Give them more leeway to perform their duties."
Discretion is important for police. They have discretion. No one will take away discretion. Giving any government entity too much discretion, however risks corruption. Boy, I love how I'm studying administration of the law right now or that wouldn't be as obvious a retort as it is.

"He was doing research on which charities to give to."
For four WHOLE months? And he came up with only 40 charities? That's finding less than a charity a day. Researching real hard, he was.

"Obama wants everyone to have health insurance. That's communistic."
No it's not. It'd be communistic if everyone were part of the same healthcare plan run by the government.

"Did I say we should be aspiring towards the UK?"
No. I'm saying our system is more privatized than the system in a country that's become increasingly privatized over the years and moving away from a socialistic system. And therefore it can't be communistic by any stretch of realism.
