"Alright, this is a particularly stupid thing to say."
I live in a public school district that is supposedly "bad" based on the criteria normally used to determine such things. Yet, having been in a large number of the public schools as a substitute teacher, the facilities are top-notch. The teachers are highly motivated and professional. The administrators are highly capable and first-rate. The kids are a mess. They fight constantly. The swear at everybody. They have no respect for anything or anyone. They don't listen to a damn thing anybody says. In such an environment, learning is impossible.
I currently work in a school-setting where parents routinely send their kids in dirty clothes or dirty diapers in which the kids quite obviously spent the night in, don't change pus-filled bandages on their kids after weeks of pleading to do so, don't bother calling the facility if their kids don't show up for school, repeatedly don't send in their kids to school even though transportation is provided, don't send in extra clothes for kids that are in toilet-training (but these kids have 15 pairs of high-end shoes), don't bother reading messages and notes sent home in the kids bookbags, don't bother signing important paperwork for kids about vaccines/medicines, etc; don't bother sending in medicines that the kids need to take every day, etc, etc, etc, etc.
Stupid? You want to tell me parents give a shit or the kids behave?
