I would grant myself omniscience, then with this knowledge craft the omniverse so as to maximise all happiness.

I would alter humans at the genetic level in the following ways. 1) Any group of people who go to war against another group of people would have an irresistible urge, regardless of the outcome, to execute their leaders/politicians as a punishment for failing to prevent the conflict even starting (that should end most wars and conflicts). 2) Humans would no longer suffer tooth ache, cancer, heart disease, back-ache or obesity. 3) The average IQ of anybody conceived after *NOW* would be 130 (not 100), and would increase by one point every 5 years. 4) The desire to have sex with children or adults against their will, would be removed utterly. 5) TV executives in the US would have an irresistible urge to bring back The West Wing, John Doe, Studio 60, Serenity and a new series of Star Trek (TOS), all using the very best writers in the business and, for the SciFi at least, an unlimited special effects budget.

Ok, so the last one's just for me, but what the hell?

@Speaker - the IQ thing really would take a god because IQ *is an average*. the average IQ of the entire world's populace is around 102 I believe right now. So, do to rolling averages, having people born with a typical 130 IQ would mean the average of the world would go up which would in tunr actually roll back down to 100 so that a 130 IQ would be about a 115 and, keep going down over time as new old scale 130s were born.

@Drag: The average IQ *was* 100 when the scale was devised. Now our schools all "teach to the test" so the IQ scores are going up. How could it be otherwise? They can't go up *that* far just by better education, unless the teachers give their students the test papers *and* the answers OR the human brain improves its cognitive ability! I would improve it's cognitive ability*** while locking the IQ standard at it's current level.

I think not being immrtal is punishment enough if the good people get to be immortal. However I'd still be interested in reading it. I would have read Dante's Inferno except that I don't like poetry.

If I suddenly found myself with almost limitless powers, I would find out if there was life on other planets, and if there was, I would go and see what life was like on those other worlds. It would be fascinating.

Otherwise, knowing me I would probably end up using my powers to surround myself with goddess-like women such as Gianna Michaels, to the pursuit of my own sexual gratification.

Judgeing by comments so far most people do not look past trival desires, or see God only on a planetary scale, with only limited knowledge, powers, and excistence. It looks like most people's view of God seem not to have changed much from when Nanna's temple was built in Ur.
