Ok I've seen a few game variants like the "Winner Take All" and league matches. Are all these special request games that need to go through Kestas? I don't see any options for variants, including less then 7 players.

Kestas - please ban these morons - part two
mapleleafrulz has taken over a cd in one of my games and has posted a global message in a pathetic attempt to paint me as a multi. This is totally malicious; well beyond the childish moniker previously used by this individual.
As this idiot, and mapleleafisiacnt, are likely the same idiot and logging on from a country other than Canada, just ban him/her and every other user from the IP.
The really sad thing about all of this is that people with whom I have played in many games are actually questioning my integrity.
As far as my original thread goes, the inmates have taken over the asylum.
They are proud of it.
Pathetic.
How about a response?

Well, you see, no-one has to earn my respect..... it's afforded to each and every individual, regardless of race, colour, creed, nationality, age, gender, sexual preference, intelligence, and lifestyle.... at least, until they manage to lose it. My respect is quickly lost by most heroin addicts and murderers, and immediately lost by all child molesters and racists. Mapleleaf has lost it.

an dlooking at the sentence it would seem very likely thst its some kind of slight on my intelligence.

I think it's very funny that you would insult dumpster divers. not that I'm personally offended by it, but dumster divers make use of the things that in a grossly wasteful capitalist society would otherwise just be buried in the ground
sorry bud, a dollar a day for the christians wont solve world hunger, at least I'm taking a step in the right direction.
I'm actually kind of getting the sense that you're jealous of me.
up until now, I've thought you were just some old annoying asshole, but I still respected your opinions, simply because you held them. but now that your racism is more apparent than ever, I see that you have a very cynical warped view pf the world. I'm sorry you're so bitter

Mapleleaf-

Before you tell me to get off your thread, you should know that I will post on whatever fucking thread I want, regardless of whom it belongs to.

That being said, why on earth did you throw the racial comment into this?? I really don't understand where that came from. It doesn't help your argument, doesn't seem at all relevant to it in fact, and only serves to make people less likely to take it seriously. I don't know if perhaps racism is not as sensitive a topic as it is here in the U.S., so maybe that explains why you don't seem to understand why it upset so many people. In any case, couldn't you just admit that it was a mistake in judgement, apologize to anyone who was rightfully offended (including myself, as I have an uncle who's black), then move on? You may have been right to attack Sicarius, I dunno, but you were definitely not justified in making a racist remark. I'm trying to help ya, man; take the high road and be done with it!

Racism aside, I think Mapleleaf's original argument does appear to have merit. I believe Kestas would be wise to at least address it. Of course, since he and I rarely see eye-to-eye, I don't expect my opinion here to carry any weight with him.

--Kris

P.S. I still hate Mapleleaf because he's Canadian. His eyes should be slowly torn from their sockets by a mountain lion. Then, a person with herpes should piss in the empty sockets. After he dies, the word "toilet" should be renamed to "Mapleleaf", so that his name will forever be associated with shit. Fucking Canuck.... =)

Sicarius,

Jerkface (1626 D)

I think it's bizarre that now that racism has been introduced to the discussion, it's all of a sudden more serious than it was before. Why are we all so sensitive to racist comments when mapleleaf's other moronic comments have been equally worthy of criticism? I, for one, would like to speak out against the "offense" that racism hurls at us normal folk. I do NOT get offended by racism any more than I get offended by obnoxious people. I think racism should NOT be such a hot topic and I don't treat it as such.

Taking offense at something is, ultimately, a sign of the weakness of the person who has taken offense. After all, a successful offense requires a diminished defense. We need to build our defenses to racism to be equally strong as our defenses to having spit-balls thrown at the backs of our heads, I say!
Sicarius (673 D)
17 Jun 08 UTC
actually I kindof expected it.
what with him joining all my team games in hopes of just that happening

that guy has way too much time on his hands to waste on dumb shit.

It's pretty bad when a 19 year old with no job or any responsibilities thinks someone who is 30+ years his senior is immature...
Feckless Clod (777 D)
17 Jun 08 UTC
It's not HIS thread, just because he started it. It belongs to the community. Actually, it belongs to one kestasjk.

The word "toilet" should be renamed to "Crapper", so that HIS name will forever be associated with his invention. Ordinary morons shouldn't be forever remembered for anything, especially megalomanic morons like mapleleaf - it would only feed his delusions that he's more important than everybody else.
Gobbledydook (1389 D(B))
17 Jun 08 UTC
so a toilet is more important than a moron.
Nope, I don't think so.
Apart from collecting human defecation, a moron can also amuse others greatly, not to mention give the asylum workers jobs. Without them, many people would be out of work.
Sicarius (673 D)

dude what kind of indian are you?

I would like racism to go away too but ignoring it isnt really a good stradegy

so I'ma guess you've never gotten in a fight because of your race, or gotten arrested for it, or anything
Sicarius (673 D)
17 Jun 08 UTC
well he is amusing.
Jerkface (1626 D)
17 Jun 08 UTC
I don't identify with the word, "indian".

I have gotten into exactly one fight which might or might not have been linked to my race. I've never been arrested, period. I see no reason to pity myself because of my race.
Feckless Clod (777 D)
17 Jun 08 UTC
@ Jerkface - just how far would you take this argument? Have you seriously thought it through? To what extent, exactly, do you think we should tolerate racism? As much as I'd like to state my counter-argument, I feel passionately enough about the subject that I find myself unable to do so without invoking Godwin's Law.
Sicarius (673 D)
17 Jun 08 UTC
it's not about pitying yourself. its realizing that others think less of you because of your skin color and not letting them get away with it
Feckless Clod (777 D)
17 Jun 08 UTC
As opposed to letting them take control of major industrial powers, and putting people in ovens.

DOH!
Sicarius (673 D)
17 Jun 08 UTC
well that would be included.
thats not exactly racism, but I suppose I'm talking about intolerance in general...
Jerkface (1626 D)
17 Jun 08 UTC
I think defining racism is most important here, especially in contrast to racialism.

In terms of "letting someone get away with" thinking less of you, who the hell am I to dictate what other people are aloud to think of me? Should I hunt everyone down and give them a stern talking-to who I suspect thinks lower of me because of my race? I have no interest in this kind of pseudo-mind control.

Without new code my investigating and banning in situations like this would be like trying to turn back the tide :-(

Hopefully someone will be kind enough to contribute metagamer detection code that'll pick up cases like these in the future.

In case that happens Sicarius (if this is him) you should note that you've already been banned and allowed back once; when there's code around that makes it /much/ easier to repeatedly ban you do you really want to have things like this fresh in everyone's mind?
Kristopher (100 D)
17 Jun 08 UTC
Lol just to clarify in case anyone misunderstood, I am joking when I saw I hate Canadians. Believe it or not, I don't want their eyes to be mauled by mountain lions or their eye sockets to be pissed-on by herpes-infected crackwhores. I pick on Canadians because they tend to be better sports about it than most people. =)

Regarding racism, I think it carries a lot of anger in this country because of the history involved. Also, though we whites like to believe that racism is mostly a thing of the past, there are still many examples where it exists. It's just not nearly as brazen as it once was, and often times is more of an unconscious bias that manifests itself in other forms (such as Fox News referring to Barack Obama's wife as his "baby mama".... something tells me they wouldn't say that about John McCain or even John Kerry for that matter). If I was constantly being reminded of my race and treated with more suspicion and negativity as a result, chances are I'd be pretty sensitive about the subject as well. Many of us whites are able to not be offended by it because we are privileged not to be so directly and adversely affected by it as others have.

Regarding the code shit, depending on how you have IP history stored in user accounts it shouldn't be that difficult. The bigger problem is that it's extremely easy to bypass an IPban, particularly a web-based one. HTTP proxies are very common, and if you use a router then all you have to do is change its MAC address and your ISP (at least in most cases) will automatically assign you a new IP address, since you're essentially fooling their servers into thinking you're connecting from a different computer.

I did once develop a simple IP verification tool that used a hidden embedded connection to a special telnet server to compare the IP address recorded by it with the IP address recorded by the webserver. If they didn't match, it most likely meant the person was using a proxy, and would ban accordingly. Socks proxies are much less common so this was more or less fool-proof. Unfortunately, without direct cooperation from the ISP, there's currently no way (at least none that I'm aware of) to ban someone from your server if they have the ability to change their IP, which more and more people do these days (though fortunately most of them don't know it). There are plenty of combinations of techniques you can use to make it extremely difficult, but that's about as far as it can go I think. If anyone thinks of a way, feel free to let me know lol. =)

I have never been banned. That was my girlfriend, and for those who would object to that, I would remin you that this account has been around way before, and long after she played. she did post a couple things under my name, but it was her that was banned not me. actually as I recall, you just told her to 'cool it' or else she would be banned. so theres that
secondly as much as I hate mapleleaf, pointing out his stupidity and laughing at it is enough for me and I dont care enough to create an account for it. he's the one going the extra mile to annoy me niot the other way around.

What we need is a game variant to solve the question that has been gnawing at us:

No orders to submit in this phase, but...
The game "Diplo2009" just advanced, and now it is the retreat phase of Autumn 1906. None of my units were displaced, but the game tab still shows up at the top of my screen with a red X next to it, and the game page itself shows a red X next to my name. Where orders would be submitted, it says, "You have no orders to submit in this phase."

Does this mean the game will wait 24 hours before it advances again just because I can't submit (and finalize) any orders that would change this red X to a green check mark?

How are point accumulated?
I am raising a true question, no accusation, no polemics.
I am playing a game where one player (Qing Shi Hwang) has jumped from 100 points to 1341 points overnight (currently he has invested all his pot in a joinable game).
The interesting issue comes if you take a look at his profile: only three survivals, the biggest of which is with 1 SC in 352 pot game, the other two survivals being in games with pots less or equal to 70 points.
Where do the 1341 points come from?

I suspect a multi-acct or metagame.
In my game, run to the hills.

Player 1: Qin Shi Huang who came in and played Turkey who was in CD (left with 1 SC in Munich)
Player 2: venek who played Russia

Reason my suspicion were raised
1. QSH came in to play turkey (left with 1 SC not in home territory)
2. Came in entered orders, 6 min later, venek entered his orders
3. Russia had 1 unit in Berlin, Turkey had 1 unit in Munich. Somehow Berlin managed to move into Munich
4. Looking at QSH record, he has played 79 games of which he has survived 3 and won none. He however has 210 points. This suggests he takes part solely in CD games for the benefit of a group of people to use as a dummy account.

Venek or QSH, could you kindly answer the allegations?

Kestasjk, could you please look into this? I understand you're not in development anymore, are we working on the code to build moderators?
