How many/Which languages do you speak?
And how well do you speak them? And where are you from? How did you learn the languages? Just curious if speaking/learning multiple languages is a universal thing...

I speak Dutch because that's where I'm from, I speak English, not sure how I learned it though, and am learning French and German for school because I have to, I'll very likely drop German after this year though...

What is the value difference between a Win, Draw, Survive? Not as it related to "points" but as it related to your rating on the site.

Property
One of the lessons I've learned from the crisis that we in Europe have been dragged through ever since the bail out of Lehman Brothers in 2008 is how fragile certain forms of property are, such as money, but also pensions (future money).

Every experienced players would use this feature to their advantage. It's a nice feature so that you don't miss a turn.

I propose, to take a point off from the any potential points won in the game against the player, if each time the turn expired with ""Orders completed, but not ready for next turn".

question about this website
if you can mute users, so presumably those who dont want to hear my threads can mute me, then why are the moderators blocking my threads? or was it just because of my pointing out bloomberg telling the police to use extortion against the people of america to get gun laws passed for the elites?

We greatly respect the freedom of speech on this site. This site allows a lot more freedom and conversation than almost any another site that I know of. However, the site rules clearly state that you shall not spam the forum. I don't care about your politics or what you think is important. I do care that you are spamming the forum.

I will not close this thread, but as I've said in the other thread, please keep your daily or hourly news/threads limited to the blanknew thread.

this is stupid. my threads are typically getting replies from people and then i reply to them. if people really didnt want them at all then they wouldnt engage in the discussion. clearly there is some kind of interest. the number of posts i make vs the number of posts directed at me is a decent ratio. if you want to limit how many threads a user can start in a day then why dont you implement that?

God you stupid son of a bitch! Shut up about fucking elites!!! If you want anyone to have a meaningful discussion with you, start it off meaningful! You sound so fucking stupid with your "elite" repetition! it's like watching the smurfs where everything was smurfy, except with you everything is elite. God I wish I could get this one thing across to you, you would be a better person of you could understand this.

Re: if you want to limit how many threads a user can start in a day then why dont you implement that?
As long as we're on the subject of ridiculous threads ... josunice started about 1-2 dozen EOG threads on the forum. I mean ... wow. It's gunboat, it's pretty obvious what everyone did and since there was no talking ... I don't think that we needed THAT many threads.

but ... this brings up an interesting idea. Maybe after the next site update, the powers that be can make it so that you can global chat after a gunboat game is finished.

i mean why dont you put it in the software.

using the term elites doesnt mean anything it is just a name for those who hold a lot of power in the world. i guarantee you it is not you or anyone you know that i am talking about if that is what you think.

whatever i think i have convinced some people here to rethink some of their misconceptions (and then maybe drove others even more towards the totalitarian camp in reaction), maybe it is time for me to find another forum to focus on for the next few months. i have to bring the good word to the people.
Out of curiosity, why do you think people who hold a lot of power in the world would not enjoy playing diplomacy? Assume that some do. Wouldn't you expect they would have the same problems rounding up six other like-minded friends who can set aside a full evening for a live game? Wouldn't an online diplomacy site hold the same appeal for them? And if so, then why not this site as the best of its type?

Bill Gates and Warren Buffett enjoy playing bridge. They played together as a pair in a tournament in Santa Clara in which I participated. Sadly, our paths did not cross. If they can step down from their lofty heights to engage in gamesmanship with the non-elites (live, no less), why is playing diplomacy such a stretch? Or are Gates and Buffett not elite enough?

"Maybe after the next site update, the powers that be can make it so that you can global chat after a gunboat game is finished."

Surely this makes good sense to keep the EOG attached to the original game as they mean quite a lot to players who took part but are probably not a huge amount of interest to everyone else. I think this would be a good feature. Then if players want to share the EOG with the rest of the site they just need to post the link. Then we could a specific EOG thread like we have a Live Game thread.

A limit on the number of threads one can create in a day is a needlessly blunt tool. You can create as many threads you want as long as they aren't just a variation on the same theme. That constitutes spam. Similarly, you can post as much you want as long as it isn't just "lol" in every single thread on the front page. Simple anti-spam rules.

in response to hanged man, there is no way anyone here is elite. the tools of the elite are often not elite at all themselves. like that 'megaphone' where israeli college students in the states are paid a few hundred dollars or something to spam post pro-israel propaganda on as many sites as possible. those people are not elite at all.

but from now on i will focus on my blanknews thread to post important news from my site. however people will probably spam it with crap which will make it hard to find the actual headlines since unlike other users who are allowed to post new threads where the headlines are always right there, my headlines will be scattered over the pages of the thread, but whatever, im sure those who are really interested will put the effort to try to navigate it.

Hmmmm... Sorry to create 8 completely web diplomacy related threads. Only 1 pertained specifically to the 28 tournemant players where the other 7 were comments on completed games. How can a single EoG be spam? Next time I'll space them out -- but I think there is interest in the forum on playing the game as well as other musings, no? Maybe we should as suggested have a diplomacy forum and a community forum... Then I wouldn't be crossing over to the, whatever this is, thread...

Dude, you aren't Jesus. You don't have the good word just because it's your word. You are the biggest idiot that's been here since TC, and you're getting close to beating him out. You post things about topics that you are clueless about - Israeli student propaganda and Germany having no free speech is only the start. You then rebuff all arguments against your point with "I'm right, you're not" instead of giving some accurate points about anything. Then you go on to call people puppets of the "elite" as if you can't find anything to say. Fuck, now you're arguing with people for limiting you to a thread that you created to hold everything that's in all of your other threads. Go back to your home planet, please.

Besides, the group of 7 players agreed I would kick off the EoGs... You all saw my name for the post 7 times, but if each EoG was begun by a separate player I assume there would be no "backlash" for too many EoGs being posted... Spacing them out would be a courtesy to those counting threads instead of content... Those I accept perception is important...

I would love to see two forums....one for diplomacy related discussion and one for the crazy people who actually care about internet people's opinions. I often find it tough to navigate the threads to find ones related to diplomacy.

By the way, this site is ridiculously awesome compared to anything else out there diplomacy related.

@blankflag, within your first 8 days on the site you had started 10+ threads and had over 100 comments without doing anything but holding moves in your first game. I was going to give you a warning back then, but the other moderators (Zultar included) figured you'd calm down eventually. You might want to consider that Zultar, who is almost never involved in locking threads decided you were spamming and dial back your new threads accordingly.

To answer your confusion about the spam policy on the site it's based on these rues below and is up to moderator discretion. Please see: http://www.webdiplomacy.net/rules.php

7. Do not spam the forum or private messaging system
You are welcome and indeed encouraged to join in with the community but be sensible. Try to keep replies relevant to the conversation and don't start too many threads at once. Before posting a question relating to the software please read the FAQ.

9. Follow common sense
The rules above are mainly ones which might not be obvious; just because a specific rule isn't given here doesn't mean moderators can't stop people ruining the server for others!

"Don't create new accounts to work around user silences, or post threads to continue on from ones which have been silenced! This may result in bans etc, which would be worse than simply keeping off the forum for a few days. "

to jmo you are retarded.

i never entered any holding orders you idiot, we already went over all this. all those games were takeovers. the hold orders were from the players who abandoned those games. and as far as your wanting to silence me, you can suck it. anyway i have already decided to stop using this site for debate and just copy and paste news into it and let your community do the debating since its not worth my time when other sites have better moderators and a more critically thinking userbase.

Is it legal to discuss a game in the forums?
If so, I think it would be fun to play a "forum" game. No press in game, all communication must take place on the forum, no private messages.

It'll give others the chance to troll our play. Should be funny. Who's interested and uses the forum a lot?

The Other Other Kennedy Assassination
We anti-conspiracists strongly believe the narrative that Ted Kennedy negligently killed a woman in Chappaquiddick in 1969. However, those smarter than us insist that Kennedy was actually under the influence of a powerful Cuban mind-control experiment and that Mary Jo Kopechne was actually Marilyn Monroe in disguise.
