i agree with rokakoma here. I can understand hitting ready in a full press game when you are in the middle of conducting Diplomacy but builds, retreats, and the like shouldn't take the whole phase.

In gunboat, always hit ready, unless RL is in the way, of course

They use the 5 minutes to earn their living.

The only time I ready is when my actions are clear and no amount of diplomacy can change it. This occurs less than once per game on average. FYI.

Plus, in a live game you can count that I will never ready moves because talk time is heavily limited and I can use the time to discuss the next season.

Who says I am? Are you talking about a specific live game here, roka? I hope not.

No, I'm talking about situations when you must disband a unit, and that's ALL the orders you have to enter. As I stated the very same example in the opening line of this thread.

A live game, with retreats and build is about 75 turns (15 years)
With 5 minutes EVERY turn it's 6 hours, instead of having it less then 3. It's insane!!!

Can't we have 3 minutes live games? Or 4mins? Would make thing a lot faster.

Lol, but seriously, 5 minutes is way too much. Also build/retreats could be 2 minutes, and then we can still have the 5 minutes phases. That alone would speed it up a lot.

If someone finds 3 minutes not enough, then don't join the game, but I'd like to see having 3 min phases. Or half phase long builds/retreats optional.

I'm pretty sure none of you like when a game takes 6 hours because someone is incapable of pressing Ready.

rokakoma, in all seriousness I agree with you.

@roka - some folks don't do the finalize (I don't even play live for this same reason) because then they have to sit there constantly refreshing their browser to see if the turn ran. It's a pain in the ass when you can just not finalize and know it will run when the countdown reaches zero.

I'm not making fun of you. I would certainly see myself laughing with you and not at you. If you seriously would like to see a 3 minute phase length then email the mods - raging on the forum isn't really going to help and only makes you seem not so serious about this issue, so I'm just inputting some light-hearted humour.

I agree with you for the most part that a shorter phase length would make sense for gunboat games - and I agree that it would preferable to have people press ready in gunboat games but I accept that this isn't always possible and even if the turn does not require much thought, sometimes people just need to get a drink or step away for a moment and pressing save but not ready allows them to do that.
