@tt612:
Yes, exactly, that's what I ment by regional divisions.
I mean, in baseball, most games start at either 4:00pm or 7:00pm in that timezome, so of course when the New York Mets play, they'll play mostly with the Philadelphia Phillies or Atlanta Braves or others in the National League East, so while their games are so often 7:00pm for me, it's really 4:00pm NYC-time when they play their games, so it's not late for them.
Point being that we won't have a Londoner play a Californian like me unless that was the final match or something, start with regions and work your way up.
My Regional Plan:
Western and Eastern Conferences, the dividing line being, say, Chicago and the Central Time Zone. West of that is the Western Conference, and East of that, so mostly the Eastern Seaboard and England, would be the Eastern Conference.
Each Conference would then have divisions, seven players per division (hence a game):
Western Conference Divisions:
California
Los Angeles County (since there are so many Californian players)
Arizona
Pacific Northwest
That allows for 4 divisional winners and then 3 wild cards, those with the highest point totals who didn't win the division.
Eastern Conference:
Middle America
Eastern Seaboard
England
London (since, same as California/LA, so many players)
