If only there were signs! If only there was some hint that he could behave violently with a gun! If only there was some way we could have known!

I Need a Mod
I need a mod to take a look at some reason postings in the thread I maintain, the Daily Bible Reading because a player is posting extremely offensive material of a graphic sexual nature that is completely unrelated to the topic. I muted him, but want to know if this is permitted or if it can be deleted from the Forum.

The Return of NFL Pick 'em: Week 1 (Plus your picks for Playoff Teams + The Super Bowl!)
So a day late and seven Peyton TDs later--damn, he was great last night!--NFL Pick 'em is back...
So, besides the Broncos/Ravens game, pick the winners for the Week 1 match-ups...THEN pick your playoff teams (the 1-6 seeds for each conference) and then, of course...your Super Bowl match-up and champs.
So, NFL, Week 1...PICK 'EM!

SEA @ CAR - Seattle's defense will make the difference here
CIN @ CHI - Chicago in a close one
MIA @ CLE - Cleveland will start off with a lot of hope

bo_sox
BAL @ DEN - Denver in a low scoring affair.

SEA @ CAR - Seattle shows off that they aren't Super Bowl worthy but can still crush the Panthers.
CIN @ CHI - Chicago surprises with the offense.
MIA @ CLE - Who cares?
MIN @ DET - Minnesota in a nail biter. Adrian Peterson gets off to a strong start in his 2,000 yard back-to-back.
OAK @ IND - Indy teaches Terrell Pryor that not even the read-option can beat Robert Mathis.
KC @ JAC - Andy Reid has a decent debut; Alex Smith throws for 26 TDs en route to a blowout.
ATL @ NO - Atlanta gets caught off guard by an offside kick to start the second half but doesn't throw a pick-six in the fourth quarter and manages to win.
TB @ NYJ - Revis Island welcomes Geno Smith to the league. A pick and a couple of deflections help Tampa win easily.
TEN @ PIT - Pittsburgh sneaks one out in a close contest.
GB @ SF - San Fran proves they can fight for the division with Seattle.
ARI @ STL - Sam Bradford, Chris Givens, and Tavon Austin have their coming out party and smoke on my boy Larry Fitzgerald.
NYG @ DAL - I can't predict a Cowboys win because the Cowboys suck.
PHI @ WAS - RG3 plays it too safe; Philly pulls out 85 snaps and wins in a close offensive shootout.
HOU @ SD - Dwight Freeney sacks Matt Schaub just for old time's sake but JJ Watt one-ups the old horseshoe and Houston smokes on the bolts.

Zachattack
BAL @ DEN DENVER with a relatively easy vengeance win
NE @ BUF Brady rolls, regardless of receivers. NEW ENGLAND
SEA @ CAR SEAHAWKS struggle on road, but still claim victory
CIN @ CHI Trestman wins debut. Cutler looks sharp. Defense dominates. GO BEARS
MIA @ CLE CLEVELAND but only because of home field and Richardson
MIN @ DET MINNESOTA sneaks one out on the road.
OAK @ IND INDIANAPOLIS blows out the raiders, who are the worst team in football
KC @ JAC Reid wins debut and CHIEFS look sharp, but broncos are still the class of the weak AFC west
ATL @ NO NEW ORLEANS rides Brees and a raucous crowd to a victory
TB @ NYJ The Muscle Hamster runs all over the hapless jets. TAMPA
TEN @ PIT TITANS get an early upset over an aging steelers roster
GB @ SF Kapernick struggles and GREEN BAY gets an impressive road win
ARI @ STL Bradford looks good and ST LOUIS eventually emerges as a surprise contender
NYG @ DAL Romo has a big game and DALLAS edges out the giants
PHI @ WAS Chip Kelly's crazy offense catches redskins offguard. PHILADELPHIA
HOU @ SD HOUSTON blows out another horrible AFC West team

2WL
BAL @ DEN Ray Rice goes nuts on a depleted Denver D and Ravens win a close but low scoring game.

NE @ BUF Buffalo curbstomps all over THE PATRIOT WAY and EJ Manuel proves to be the next RGIII except we already know his legs are shot. Buffalo wins with a last second FG.

SEA @ CAR Cam Newton goes apeshit and ESPN talks about the OVERRATED Seahawks for the next six months.

CIN @ CHI Cutler gets sacked 8 times, spends second half sulking on exercise bike. Ginger Hammer throws for 300 yds and 3TDs in a Cincy rout.

MIA @ CLE Even Cleveland fans only care about their team for fantasy reasons. Browns win 6-3.

MIN @ DET AP runs for 300 yards but Vikings still lose by 14 because Ponder has the arm strength of a sixth grader.

OAK @ IND Indy wins by 30 after McFadden tears ACL on first carry. Pryor makes fans reminisce for JaMarcus.

KC @ JAC Did the Jaguars move to London yet? Chiefs by 13.

ATL @ NO Two monster offenses with two top 5 QBs, so naturally this will end up as a 10-9 barn burner. ATL wins.

TB @ NYJ So the Jets went all in on the GENO SMITH ERA which ends with Smith getting pulled in the second half of a TB blowout win.

TEN @ PIT Holy shit how are there so many terrible matchups this week?

GB @ SF This whole game will be one big Redzone highlight. GB wins 50-43 (don't even know how a team gets to 50 D - 7 TDs and one two point conversion? 13 FGs and 2 TDs?)

ARI @ STL Carson Palmer proves everyone right and throws for 120 yds with 3 INTs and a lost fumble. Rams win behind 2 defensive TDs.

NYG @ DAL Buddy Ryan does this a bunch of times: http://img.gawkerassets.com/img/1888pkpr4ph5igif/ku-xlarge.gif. Eli is UNSTOPPABLE just like his CITIZEN WATCH and Giants win big.

PHI @ WAS Eagles have the ball for a grand total of 5 minutes because their shitty BLUR offense keeps going 3 and out. Washington wins in a walkover.

HOU @ SD How did Philip Rivers get so shitty in such a short period of time? Texans by 17, Foster has a huge game because he's on my fantasy team.

My Week 1 picks:

NE@BUF: The Bills have had some recent luck against NE, but I'll take the PATRIOTS
CAR@SEA: As much as I would like to go upset here, I've gotta take the SEAHAWKS
CIN@CHI: Given the Urlacher-less state of Chicago, I'll go BENGALS here
MIA@CLE: The DOLPHINS win a game few people will actually watch
MIN@DET: In a surprisingly-good game, the VIKINGS just edge the Lions here
OAK@IND: The COLTS stampede over da Raidahs
KC@JAC: Alex Smith and Andy Reid get off to a good start--CHIEFS win big
ATL@NO: The FALCONS win in convincing fashion over Sean Payton's Saints
NYJ@TB: Maybe an upset, maybe not, but I'll take the JETS (ah, QB controversies...)
TEN@PIT: The STEELERS stave of rumors of rust--for one week at least--with a win
GB@SF: Gotta roll with my guys--NINERS win it
ARI@STL: The RAMS could make a move in the NFC this year, and they'll win here
NYG@DAL: Eli vs. Romo isn't even a question anymore--the GIANTS win again in Dallas
PHI@WAS: As long as RGIII's leg doesn't fall off, the REDSKINS win it here
HOU@SD: The TEXANS stomp the Bolts

Playoff Picks:

NFC:
1. 49ers
2. Falcons
3.Packers
4. Redskins
5. Seahawks
6. Panthers (maybe an odd pick, but I just think with a soft schedule and Cam Newton they can make the leap to the playoffs if they don't blow leads late again.)

NFC Championship: 49ers over Seahaws (And damn anyone who says the Hawks will take the Niners down--we beat them the first time, we'll beat them again this time, rain or no rain!) ;)

AFC Playoff Picks:

1. Broncos
2. Patriots (A weaker team, and declining, but Belichick knows how to get it done late)
3. Colts (Andrew Luck makes the difference vs. Matt Schaub and the Texans)
4. Ravens
5. Texans
6. Steelers (I think they have at least one more run in the take, and I'll take them over CIN)

AFC Championship: Broncos over Texans

Super Bowl XLVIII:

I hate to do this...*sigh*...

BRONCOS: 30
49ERS: 24

Please, oh please let that be reversed...
obiwanobiwan (248 D)

oh, sorry, i didn't know there was already a thread...i don't see it...?
Hmmm, playoffs though?

NFC
1 - Bears
2 - 49ers
3 - Falcons
4 - Giants
5 - Packers
6 - Seahawks

AFC

1 - Broncos
2 - Patriots
3 - Texans
4 - Bengals
5 - Colts
6 - Ravens

Broncos-Seahawks Superbowl with Peyton getting another ring.
Very similar playoff looks, obi. I was thinking about putting the Panthers in there, but then I looked and realized I didn't have the Packers in it lol. Oh, and I have the 49ers losing to the Seahawks in the NFC Championship.

OMG IT'S STILL BASEBALL SEASON AND ONLY FOOTBALL SEASON BY A FUCKIN DAY STOP TALKING ABOUT THE NFL POSTSEASON WILL YA
Saints 19-0
@Bo - the Yankees are losing so I would rather talk about football at the moment.
bo_sox48 (5202 DMod(G))
07 Sep 13 UTC
That's because the Yankees suck.
obiwanobiwan (248 D)
07 Sep 13 UTC
@goldfinger:

Lose to the Seahawks? Ever again?

NEVER! ;)

(That really does look like it could be a great new rivalry...two dynamic young QBs, two rough defenses, great teams all-around, natural rival cities in Seattle and San Fran, AND there's even some bad blood as the coaches don't like each other...nice!)

@bo_sox:

I'm a Mets fan.

Baseball for me died in August or so...and when Matt Harvey went down for the year.

I'll still watch the playoffs, but until then, it's the NFL + the NHL when it comes back in October + school + work.

And the Mets...will be back next year...and we'll...survive 2014, again, somehow.

@PE:

BAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAAAAA
Against Boston they apparently do :( Blew a lead last night and blew another one tonight.

And obi, I say the 49ers take the Seahawks in the regular season, but Seahawks get some payback in the playoffs
obiwanobiwan (248 D)
07 Sep 13 UTC
Also, bo_sox:

"GB @ SF - San Fran proves they can fight for the division with Seattle."

Thanks for picking us for the win, but...we need to PROVE we can "fight for the division with Seattle?"

WHO won that division last year?
And WHO was able to successfully beat the Falcons in the playoffs?
And WHO was one play away (four times) from winning the Super Bowl?

Seattle needs to prove it can fight with US for the division.

And they probably can....but for the moment--

*WE* (by which I mean 53 millionaires in San Francisco and their mad-as-fuck coach) are the Kings of the NFC West (no longer the NFC Worst! :D Haha, 3 years ago, everyone hated it, NOW it's Niners, Seahawks, Carson Palmer in Arizona and the Rams are moving up too!)
obiwanobiwan (248 D)
07 Sep 13 UTC
Why does everyone think Seattle will best the Niners in the end, either winning the division or in the playoffs? I don't get it, ESPN analysts say that too...

But on what basis?

We split the season series last year...
We were the ones who beat the Falcons and made it to the Super Bowl...
SF and SEA both have young running QBs, but ours has more playoff experience...

I just don't get where everyone gets the Seattle pick from.
bo_sox48 (5202 DMod(G))
07 Sep 13 UTC
Yes, you need to prove you can fight for the division with Seattle. Why? Because the Seahawks are better. You're a Mets fan; you know as well as anyone not to buy into the "we made the Super Bowl last year" argument - it's too close to "27 rings."

Obi, you should pick a third year QB that has never had a playoff berth to win the Super Bowl. History is on your side.
bo_sox48 (5202 DMod(G))
07 Sep 13 UTC
@gf ... look up how many come-from-behind wins the Red Sox have this year and then tell me they aren't the best team in the majors with the Cardinals slumping and after eating the Dodgers alive.
No, I thoroughly agree they're the best, bo. I just want you to be easy on us so we can at least make it to the postseason.
bo_sox48 (5202 DMod(G))
07 Sep 13 UTC
Your bullpen is absolutely stacked. I wouldn't expect the comebacks if your bullpen was as perfect as it should be. Blame yourself all day, blame Mike Napoli for hitting a grand slam off the top of the fence in the shortest ballpark in the majors that wouldn't have cleared the fence in any other stadium, including the 325-foot fence in Fenway.
We back

We 19-0 now

Prepare yourselves
ghug (5068 D(B))
07 Sep 13 UTC
Come on Obi, I'm a Mariners fan, and we lost any hope of competing in 2013 sometime in 2003, but you don't see me making threads about the football postseason while the baseball season's still underway.

That said, my Seahawks will fuck your 49er so hard. You don't even understand.
bo_sox48 (5202 DMod(G))
07 Sep 13 UTC
I fail to understand how one can like both the Mets and the 49ers as if they're a hometown team. The geography doesn't add up. Do you have connections, Obi?
ghug (5068 D(B))
07 Sep 13 UTC
He lives in 49er land, so I'm assuming he either grew up in New York or has family there. You're one to talk.
bo_sox48 (5202 DMod(G))
07 Sep 13 UTC
I'm just asking a question, ghug. I have family and friends in Boston and I live in Reds country. (For what it's worth, I also have a Ted Williams autograph that I've kept for years... that might have started me on my current holy path.) Makes sense on my end.
ghug (5068 D(B))

yeah, I don't watch football this early in the season. I may make some predictions later in the year but right now I couldn't care less about football.

Normally September is when I start looking at Baseball more closely, but my Jays abysmal performance this year gives me little motivation to do so.

I may watch the Bills-Pats game tomorrow, but theres a good chance I wont and will just take the month off from sports.
Hey, the Jays are in the toughest division in baseball. I have a lot of respect for that club.
Celticfox (100 D(B))

I pray the Bears do well. Otherwise I'll hear whining from customers through 2 sports seasons.
ghug (5068 D(B))
08 Sep 13 UTC
You don't know why I hate out of town Sox fans? The majority of you are nothing more than bandwagoners, and they treat the hometown fans the way a non-Yankee's fan might be treated in Fenway or Yankee stadium (8-year-old me got a barrage of ugly language and death threats at the latter just for booing A-Rod).
obiwanobiwan (248 D)
08 Sep 13 UTC
I live in California, so the 49ers were on one night...my aunt was pestering me (she's a Broncos fan) and asking what my team was--

The team on TV scored, I ask my parents who they are, and repeat the name,

"The 49ers!" And the rest is history. ;)

As for why I'm a Mets fan:

I played catcher way back when I was in Little League...but not by choice. I was REALLY puny at that age, and didn't like the idea of people throwing the ball at me OR swinging a heavy aluminum bat in front of me.

BUT my dad was the coach, and my dad's an ex-CHP cop, gets up at 2am to jog and bench-press weights, loves his football and sports and action movies...so no one else wanted to be catcher, but his son wouldn't be wimping out, not if he had anything to do with it. :p

I still REALLY didn't want to be a catcher, and I came home one day, and a family member said,
"Well, hey, you could be like Mike Piazza!"
"Who's Mike Piazza?"
And there on the screen is this massive home-run hitting catcher who looks like a GIANT to little me! I was an instant fan!

But of course Mike Piazza got traded from the Dodgers (I've never forgiven them, lol) and I was sad, I went from being able to see my new hero every day to not being able to see him at all...the Florida Marlins? They were never on TV! And they were far away! All was lost!

And then, two weeks later or so...Piazza was traded to the NEW YORK METS.

And THEY were a New York team AND getting close to contention, so they weren't on every day, but they were big market enough and good enough that they were on ESPN and FOX often enough...and by the time Piazza left after the 2005 season, I was solidly a Mets fan. :)

Welfare pays better than work in the US
A mother of two in New York is eligible for more in welfare benefits than starting salaries for school teachers in the state. Hawaii offered the most money to a mother of two, $60, 590 and Idaho the least $11,150. 33 states offer more in welfare than full-time minimum wage work earns.
