Roman Legions vs. Mongol Hordes
To commemorate the 807th anniversary of the grand Quriltai which saw Temujin elected as Genghis Khan, I ask who would win a battle between a force of Mongols and a slightly larger force of Roman legions (for the sake of discussion, we will say from the late republic/early empire period) in a head-to-head matchup? Please discuss.

I'm trying to make UVA rugby. I've been doing sprints with my friend who is a die-hard soccer player, and I'm going to start this weightlifting program: http://www.bodybuilding.com/guides/male-teen-muscle-building/intro.

My latest thing is cycing and swimming. I have just ordered myself a waterproof mp3 player so that I can swim laps and listen to audio books and music when training. I am hoping this will break up the monotony of swimming lap after lap.

I've come across a new game, it includes some training...

It is called superbetter; google it or watch : http://www.ted.com/talks/jane_mcgonigal_the_game_that_can_give_you_10_extra_years_of_life.html
I played Rugby for my University. If you are lifting weights, be careful about it. These publications tend to assume you just want to "look jacked" and they don't always consider the sport you are trying to improve at. What position do you play in Rugby? Everyone needs different skills. All Rugby players need strong legs and cores, though. So don't shy away from these. A lot of people find leg workouts to be the least satisfying, but they are very important. Learn to love the feeling of not being able to walk down stairs ;-)

I'm trying to get back into cycling after suffering a knee injury.

@spyman

My technique with cycling is to /cycle really hard/ so I don't have anything left in me to be bored.

That said, there is the road to concentrate on too.

TGM I don't think I would ever wear headphones while riding a bike. I think that could be dangerous.
I'll be using the mp3 player in the pool (although the kind that I have ordered doesn't use headphones, rather bone conduction).

I'm going to be running my first ultramarathon this weekend. 50K on a tiny island in Bar Harbor, ME. The island only has a two mile road, I run back and forth sixteen times with one aid station. After, they give you lobster and beer. Should be a good time.

Correction: bone conduction is headphones I suppose - just not earphones.

@Lando I'm a forward. I just started this summer playing 7s and I was a prop. I've been told I would likely be a prop or lock in 15s.
Prop was (and is, I suppose) my position. Legs, neck, back and core. Those will be extremely important to you. Those are the things every prop needs. If you have these things, you can set yourself apart by developping your conditioning and speed. A prop who can be the first man at a break-down is hugely important, especially if they are the biggest and strongest guy on the team, as they often are.

I'll admit, I need to get a lot stronger to play prop well at the college level.
Focus on your legs, work hard.

Undertsand the game - the rules, strategies, the other positions - this will make everything else easier.
And you'll be fine. How old are you?

^second year of college, that is.
Already ahead of you. I started teaching taekwondo again this summer doing two classes a week and I'm doing a 10-15 mile bike ride about three times a week. Not bad for an old man of 45 I guess :P

Running a half marathon in 11 weeks time - training is a touch behind schedule, but I managed 6.9 miles on Sunday, so I've got enough time to reach the goal.

It's mostly a weight (lose a couple of stone) and fitness thing (plus I'm too tight to buy new clothes just because I got fat)

Is war between Russia and England more or less inevitable?
The Norway-StP corridor is very hard to DMZ. Perhaps conflict will always occur. I at least cannot think of a time in recent memory that they went the whole game without fighting (barring an early elimination of one or both).

Discouraging country based resigns thought...
Webdip uses a country weighting system where the more often you have been a country, the less a chance you have of being it again and vice versa. So how about use that to deal with people that abandon a game because they got a country they don't like?

Is it just because I'm in college or what?
Does anyone else have the experience that the time when gender issues and parity come most the fore is when a coed group of people goes partying together? Shit just happens and you have to make decisions based on that stuff more often than in normal life. At least I feel that way. Thoughts?

So has obiwanobiwan finally matured and can I take him off my mute list?
Obi need not answer. I won't see it. But does anyone else want to chime in with their opinion so I can decide if it is safe to take him off? I kind of miss his long winded posts, but he got so over the top with his youthful insistence he knew everything I had to mute him or kill him before his 21st birthday, and I thought the former was the better option.

Draug need not answer. I won't see it. But does anyone else what to chime in with their opinion so I can decide if it is safe to take him off?
