Pick one team to win straight up each week. You can't pick the same team more than once. Lose and you're out. PM me your pick by 12:30pm Sunday Toronto time, I'll cut off the picks at that time, and post a list. Good luck.

Don't make a habit of this, in 80 % of the cases someone gets stabbed, and it rarely ends well for England...
Cockney (0 DX)

yeh- i felt like trusting them and had fleets ready for the stab if needed

it went well

i enjoy draw games when they are like that
Personally, I find that it rarely ends well for Germany or France, and that England is always better off.

But that's quite the boring game

i love the way EvW is giving me advice seeing as we have played same amount of games (39) and he has 75 D and i have 937

+1 Goldfinger. Western Triples that last more than a year let England leisurely take Russian dots, shove their armies down into Moscow, and then choose which of their neighbors to stab.
Yeah, usually its Germany that gets the worst of it, simply because its the easier stab, but occasionally E and G will tackle France, but I don't see why any Germany would agree to that

If I see a F in F01 from Austria, I might actually consider a triple as Germany. Russia will be occupied with England and I'm only facing 2 armies from Austria, so I might be able to grow quickly enough to keep the wolves at bay.

Since it's on topic, this is a game I played the other night, and I was surprised how loyal everyone managed to stay. We too had a full Western Triple from start to finish, and it was very trusting (ie, very few units were left behind by any of the three of us to defend against a possible stab)
Actually Nelhybel, only you didn't leave behind enough units to protect yourself. Germany and England were well prepared, probably considered attacking you, but didn't only for the sake of the risk of being eliminated or letting the other one solo

Correct and Incorrect to some degree; generally pre 1906 nobody had substantial defense left behind; past that point, Germany began to mass an army (which did bring light defense installments from my side) near my border - still nothing substantial from England.

Also, your assessment of my game as well as Cockney's is highly cynical. Every once in a while, people do enjoy a game with genuine alliances, and don't contemplate stabbing - I know I've done it in the past.
Alright, I'll concede to that point, though England's fleets, even if they weren't right at his border, were very threatening.

Not to insult you Nelhybel, because you are a good player, you haven't played many games with the better players on this site. Once you do, you'll see those genuine alliances fall apart 9 times out of 10 (on the conservative side). While it may come off as cynical, I just wanted to say that our viewpoints based on experience are different
It is difficult for England to NOT appear threatening at the end of a WT game - there isn't much room left for him to expand, and the bottleneck in Russia means you'll either be delaying builds indefinitely or just sitting around.

No insult taken, I gladly welcome all the advice I can get; I get what you mean about different view points. However, do none of the very top level players ever want clear cut indefinite alliances? To me it feels like a relief when I do get those from time to time, but it's possible when you get really good you just have no interest in them... ?

I like to think Im a good player here so I can give you my answer if youd like to hear it. Every player loves clear cut alliances. But at the same time, you should always be looking at ways to win the game. None of the good players here go into a game thinking "man i would love a good 2 way draw this game". Make friends, then stab them. Make friends with your enemies and then stab them too. Then reconcile and do what it takes to win or keep someone else from winning.
Oh don't get me wrong, I feel relief when I find a clear cut indefinite alliance. That means an easy stab for the win. In my experience in high end games, no alliance is indefinite, there will always be a stab. If players have other examples, then they can feel free to prove me wrong

Here goldfinger, this game just finished. gameID=64209. I know this game contradicts everything I said in my previous post but its just how the game played out. The opportunities for a good stab never really presented itself and kudos to rdrivera and martin for not presenting them either.
If you're referring to your alliance to Germany, then yes I can sort of see that, but it was really different with the Russian solo threat the whole time. Still, I see your point.
Scmoo472 (1933 D)

Actually Goldfinger I didn't feel like soloing, but the turn I would have stabbed would have netted me Brest and Paris. As he moved both his armies to Spain and Marseilles. I just had to fight in me to do it. I thought I played a pretty good Germany that game, all things considering..
Scmoo472 (1933 D)

Agent K. That game could have been won by you and Germany had you realized his positioning. You could have forced destroys in Livonia and Prussia if he was still volleying for a position to stalemate.

A suggestion for Kestas:
I think that we should have a record of how many people (But not their identity of course) have muted that person on their profile. It would have a similar reasoning to that of the +1 button, in order for users to see what sort of behaviour is and isn't accepted by the community to promote self-moderation.

Friendships....
I was wondering. People play this with their mates. People develop friendships on this site....

at what point does that become meta gaming? Im sure some people will argue it is straight from the off, whilst others argue friends more likely to stab each other
what do others think?
