Pick one team to win straight up each week. You can't pick the same team more than once. Lose and you're out. PM me your pick by 12:30pm Sunday Toronto time, I'll cut off the picks at that time, and post a list. Good luck.

A suggestion for Kestas:
I think that we should have a record of how many people (But not their identity of course) have muted that person on their profile. It would have a similar reasoning to that of the +1 button, in order for users to see what sort of behaviour is and isn't accepted by the community to promote self-moderation.

Some people would wear it as a badge.
Sicarius (673 D)

I think that is a wonderful idea
carpenter (645 D)

I don't mind if the mods keep track, but this should have no meaning in the Forum-part: people could mute others for very stupid reasons, which are too subjective to be generalized in such a way. Overal vote: No!
I'd vote no for Yonni's and carpenter's reasons.
Macchiavelli (2856 D)

I think thats a great idea.
I think that the average person would have a small handful of mutes, but the really assinine players (whom we all know exist, sadly) would have a very large number of mutes.

Yes, some would wear it as a badge. Which makes it even easier to spot them early and ignore them from the start.

I might even go so far as to suggest if you get a certain # of mutes you get kicked off the site...I admit thats a bit tricky, as some could be pointless mutes, but if you hit 500? Clearly you shouldnt be allowed to speak.

We may decide to make this info more open in the future, for now we log it all and we'll have the data available to analyze and decide which way to go
Nelhybel (280 D)

People can arbitrarily mute people for no reason; because they disagree with them politically/ideologically/etc; or even because they're mad at them for stabbing them. That's no reason for somebody to be frowned upon - but if 10 people mute them for those reasons, then all we'll see on the account is 10 mutes. And that *does* look bad.

This idea has goodness at heart, but shouldn't be implemented for the above reason.
Draugnar (0 DX)

So? It looks bad. I doubt the mutes will all be frivolous and if 10 or 20 people mute someone, then they should be ostracized.
obiwanobiwan (248 D)

I like the idea

i'd prefer to see some anonymous statistical analysis of the data first.

like the total number of mutes, the average per person and to see if this changes over time... this could give us a better idea of how people are using mutes - perhaps even the degree of separation within the community (if there are mutual mutes means two groups in the community can't see or hear each other...)

"So? It looks bad. I doubt the mutes will all be frivolous and if 10 or 20 people mute someone, then they should be ostracized. "

I've played with enough immature people on this site (though they are the minority) to lead me to believe this would just be abused.

They think to themselves "Oh he beat me, that ***"; "he stabbed me, that ****". And then they mute the person, knowing it will have a negative effect on how that player is perceived.

Enough of them do that, and then the poor player is "ostracized" when they did nothing wrong.

And that doesn't even take into account muting people on forums because you disagree with them a deal (maybe a personal good reason to mute, but an awful reason to ostracize).
Nelhybel (280 D)

What might be better is a feedback system of some sort, seeing as people would begin to use this mute statistic as a judge of feedback anyways.

By having mutes, you only have the ability to give somebody a negative mark, not a positive; thus, there's no way of ever cancelling out all the unwarranted mutes. Feedback allows positive remarks (which would be given by the majority of players) to be given to cancel out unwarranted negative marks.

jeez people, just quit crying and mute people you don't like. This is the typical misunderstaning of "I find that offensive," to "that is offensive." Just because you (and 500 others) think so, doesn't mean that particular idiot needs to be silenced forever (yes, even morons like KA and TC).

The system is just fine as is.
Draugnar (0 DX)

@Nel - muting is only on the forums. In game mutes end when the game ends and have nothing to do with forum mutes. Perhaps you didn't realize this.
Nelhybel (280 D)
02 Oct 11 UTC
Thank you for pointing this out, as I did not realize this (I've never used the mute option).

However, and irate/immature/etc player could just as easily go and do the forum mute, if that were to be the measurement of this mute statistic.
Draugnar (0 DX)
02 Oct 11 UTC
Yes, but I doubt the players of this site are going to use forum muting as grounds for not playing someone. Must of the mutees, like Tettleton, don't even play games. They are just here to be fucktard trolls.
Nelhybel (280 D)
02 Oct 11 UTC
I feel this would apply to the majority too, but even you just above said:
"I doubt the mutes will all be frivolous and if 10 or 20 people mute someone, then they should be ostracized."
You mean not in games just on the forums?

In any case, I feel that implementing any type of mute statistic would just end up being interpreted as a feedback report on players.

Yes, just in the forums

Friendships....
I was wondering. People play this with their mates. People develop friendships on this site....

at what point does that become meta gaming? Im sure some people will argue it is straight from the off, whilst others argue friends more likely to stab each other
what do others think?
