Looking for a few more players.
I am looking for a few more players to join my game. It's called Greg's Awesome Diplomacy Game for Attractive People. The password is mountaindew (no caps or spaces). It's mostly my friends but I guarantee you we won't team up based on friendship. I thought we could get a few more players but nobody responded. Please join. Thanks.

Something is Wrong.
One of my non-chat games has a message thing on it, but when I click on it, it brings me to the game which says that there is no chat available. I'm not complaining or anything, I'm just wondering if that has happened before.

Civility REQUIRED game: players wanted
Hello,
I have created two games of this type: one was very successful and one was successful until we had a player who was replaced by a sitter and a CD player. I want to create and play another of these games. Please post here if you are interested.

What logical fallacy is this?
I'm arguing with someone on another website, and they keep using examples of things from their life to show that what happened in their life is always the case. What is that logical fallacy called?

Actually, that's not true, I'm pretty good at math and understand the concepts behind GR/Elo system. However, trying to apply the advanced math detailed at the site is...challenging. An example will follow:

I hate threads where we bash newbies for reporting cheating in the forum
WHY....can't we have a button, next to the "new thread" button, that says "report rule violations" and routes to the moderators' emails????
Indybroughton (3407 D(G))
22 Jul 11 UTC
This idea has come up many times. NO...it is NOT easy to find the moderator's email addresses buried in the rules. NO...even if "easy", people don't do it.

And then we flame new people to the site who often are doing the only thing they can think of, posting to the general public.

I pledge $50AU if we can get a button added. The programming (to a non-programmer) seems fairly elemental.
Tergem (100 D)
22 Jul 11 UTC
Because they're bound to look at the forums for rule violations already. It would simply take up inbox space with repeats of reports as well. So it would be an annoyance and not very useful.
Draugnar (0 DX)
22 Jul 11 UTC
Actually, I think we have been being better about it unless the newb insist on continuing with the accusations after being told to report it to [email protected] and not to post it on the forum. Then, of course, we get all up in their face. But then they deserve it for not listening the first time.
dexter morgan (225 D(S))

Ignorance of the law is not an excuse, and all that. But, never the less, I agree with you. It would be smoother, more preventative of inadvertent violations by newbies and the attendent upset, and it would be friendlier.

@Tergem - I'm confused. The mods only respond to cheating accusations sent to the email address. Indy just wants that email address made more accessible and visible. I think he is right and several of the mods have been pushing for the same thing.
Indybroughton (3407 D(G))
22 Jul 11 UTC
thanks, Draug.

GREEN BUTTON: "new thread". RED BUTTON: "report rules violations"
see how easy that was?
Draugnar (0 DX)
22 Jul 11 UTC
I'd like to see one on each game page that automatically filled in a link to the game you are on along with a serious of checkboxes for the players/nations you suspect of cheating and then a text box for more details.
fortknox (2059 D)
22 Jul 11 UTC
I used to think the same way, but I think we'll get a LOT more 'minor' reports about cheating from sour players who are losing.
I'd rather them be pointed to the FAQ and Rules section than just give them a free pass to the mod address.
Draugnar (0 DX)
22 Jul 11 UTC
So what about the Green/Red button idea to try and reduce the number of cheating accusations on the forum? I may not be a mod, but I'd rather the mods be a little more inconvenienced than some poor guy have his named smeared all over here because someone couldn't find the email address.
Indybroughton (3407 D(G))
22 Jul 11 UTC
Or......combine the ideas. (Because I agree, on every page COULD lead to a lot more unworthy complaints...but the current state stinks also)

Have a red/green button on the forum...and a red button in the games....both lead to a section that explains what IS and is NOT cheating.... and if you click a second button, you get a form you must fill out (to ensure complete info for the mods) which goes to the mods.
abgemacht (1076 D(G))
23 Jul 11 UTC
There's actually a 1 minute solution to this.

When you make a new thread, there are some notes above the text-box. Just include:

"DO NOT POST CHEATING ACCUSATIONS IN THE FORUM. INSTEAD CONTACT THE MODS AT [email protected]"

in big red letters.
acmac10 (120 D(B))
23 Jul 11 UTC
Can we have red blood dripping from the letters as well to make an uber-scary impression?
mapleleaf (0 DX)
23 Jul 11 UTC
How about this.

Let's just keep the Forum un-moderated(you know, like it's supposed to be) and people can post anything that they want. The Mods are free to ignore any requests made to them, in this fashion. It's not difficult.

If the Mods have an an issue with this, then they can all go fuck Fag-Naur's mother.

Fucking prima donnas.
abgemacht (1076 D(G))
23 Jul 11 UTC
@maple

It is against the rules to post cheating accusations in the forum. If you don't think that should be a rule, that's fine. But arguing that the mods shouldn't enforce the rules is a losing proposition.
mapleleaf (0 DX)
23 Jul 11 UTC
@abgie - So the Forum is moderated then. Kestas always hated that idea.

Fair enough that the Mods enforce the existing rules though.....
SuperSteve (894 D)
24 Jul 11 UTC
So, cheating is ignored and reporting it is forbidden?
abgemacht (1076 D(G))
24 Jul 11 UTC
@maple

A very small form of moderation, yes.

@Steve

Cheating is *not* ignored. Reporting is *not* forbidden if done through the proper channel.

+1 to SuperSteve, mapleleaf

@abgemacht

Hey, Fascist, I don't know how they do it in Germany (OH WAIT I DO KNOW I MAJORED IN HISTORY), but here in America we don't restrict free speech.

So take your statist bullshit and shove it up your Schwartzwald,

@Chris, this is the *World* wide web, putz. Kestas, the owner and Creator of this site is from Australia and many of the mods from England and elsewhere. American free speech doesn't mean shit here and, quite honestly, doesn't actually exist in America either. Go walk up to a police officer who happens to be black and call him an 'N' then get back to me after you wake up from your coma and tell me if they did anything to the cop. Freedom of speech is freedom of political speech. Holler fire in a packed theater and you will go to jail. Threaten to kill someone and you will go to jail. That freedom is curtailed by others rights.
Draugnar (0 DX)
24 Jul 11 UTC
One more thing. The reason not to post cheating accusations here is that would be the same as publishing an accusation in a newspaper. We have a presumption of innocence on this site (just like in the US) and so we don't publicly accuse others of wrong doing. Instead we call the mods and let them investigate. If you published a newsletter and accused your neighbor of theft, you'd rightfully be sued. Instead you call the police. Well the mods are our police. I hope Abgemacht docks you all your points for smarting off to him. Oh, he is a mod, you fucktard.
abgemacht (1076 D(G))
24 Jul 11 UTC
@Draug

Aren't you the one who threatened to DDoS the site when I took off points for you deliberately disobeying a mod request? : )
Draugnar (0 DX)
24 Jul 11 UTC
Do you really think I would have done that? Come on... And you did take my last point at the time. ;-)
Draugnar (0 DX)
24 Jul 11 UTC
Oh, and I should point out a mod request is different than outright breaking a rule, which repeatedly posting a cheating accusation after being warned to stop does.

communicating outside of a 'no communication' game
My last attack in an anonymous, no in-game communication game was blocked when two countries worked together. I'm not sure how that could happen when there's no way to communicate in game, so it leads me to believe they are communicating outside of the game.
