I've found that the key to telling a newbie from a seasoned veteran pro is how they handle a stab. I learned it from playing Edi.
Instead of getting upset or convincing me otherwise... he just told me how he can help me get more SCs. And it forced me to keep talking to him.

Anytime someone goes on a shit storm about an attack (stab or not), I try to explain the whole "You attract more flies with honey instead of vinegar" line. I don't know of any diplomacy game where I had to result to shouting and immaturity....
Now, I have used some pretty low-level manipulation tactics: ask Crazyter all about it... she dominated me every game in our leagues in the summer, so I accused her of having it out for me... of course she's just a good player that kept kicking my ass... I just accused her to get some relief in the last game. I did admit to the manipulation and apologized, but all's fair in love in war that is diplomacy communication (as long as it isn't meta, outside of a league/tourney, right?) ;)

I also get a bit perturbed by people that log in and don't comm with you when you are their neighbor. They have that "You communicate with ME, not the other way around!" attitude. Kinda gets me all riled up.

If I have a neighbor that won't respond to a "Hello, what's up" at the beginning of the game, my next message is sent via a couple armies following up the first message. Because seriously, how hard is it just to say, "Hi, I dunno, I'm just hoping you won't roll tanks into me."

once or twice? maltizok, I do it constantly. I would be the number one player on this site if it wasn't for misorders (slight exaggeration).

I don't blame players for messing up their orders, but it's still one of the more annoying things (for both players involved) that can happen in a game.

I accidentally supported an enemy army into a vacant SC instead of my own once. Completely cost me the game.

Well, duh. You have to click "Save" before you click "Ready" or you are reading your previous orders.

I only had two builds, and that was the first time I looked at the page.

In World variant, messed up orders are sometimes more dangerous than your opponents. And with 40 units and seas named in similar fashion, they come round quite easily.

and the default setting is build an army. again, click save before ready. just do it and you'll be certain your orders went through.

Regarding misorders: after clicking save and then ready, do one more refresh and check again. If the orders are exactly as you want them to be you will have no problems with misorders.
Entering orders on the phone can be the most unreliable - so definitely double check those orders.
