I can't take these $%#$%^& public games.
So I just started playing on this site, having not really played any Dip since some PBEM a number of years ago. I joined one game as a replacement, and started two others from scratch. All three games have been horribly imbalanced due to leavers, NMRs, and suspected metagaming. How do I get in some games with reliable people? These public ones just aren't worth my time.

Successful ludicrous openings
What is the most ridiculous opening that you've seen go on to success? I'm talking Turkey not taking Bulgaria in the spring, England not entering any seas, etc - where a player (deliberately or otherwise) handicaps themselves. And then goes on to pull a rabbit out of the hat.

View last turn's orders in text form
Is there a way to see last turn's orders in text form? I know it shows all moves on the map, but is there some way to see the set of orders you sent in written out for you, so you can compare it against the orders shown by the map?

Possible cheaters
I suspect 2 guys are cheating. One's good and the other's new. In the game I'm talking about one of them is supporting another to win EVEN THOUGH that'll mean that person will lose and the other will get a solo win. I did some digging and found that in another game they're playing as France and England. They are obviously allied in this game too. SOOO without further ado, if that's how ado is spelled, how do I report these bastards?

Where'd All Those People Who Cared So Much About Gaza Go?
http://news.yahoo.com/un-halts-gaza-house-repairs-saying-donors-failed-091848287.html It's almost like it's easy to talk a big game and condemn others rather than, you know, pony up and actually put your money where your mouth is? "A Hamas official warned recently that the territory could become a breeding ground for extremism unless promised reconstruction is accelerated." Because it (and Hamas) are so moderate already...

@ Thucydides

"I'm not saying the Palestinians are as helpless as the black slaves of the Americas. What I'm saying is that Israel's reaction to minor provocations is comparable"

Okay, I can agree with that bit. Sorry for my misinterpretation. I rescind that portion of my comment towards you.

"Is it disgusting that they allow their civilians to be in harm's way?"

'Allow' them? Seems to me like they're more or less holding the civilians hostage by putting rocket batteries in schools and hospitals, which is why I disagree with your overarching point that the Palestinians are the lesser of two evils.

"but this is what the people of Gaza seem to want."

Exactly. Under a total war doctrine, Israel's deliberate targeting of civilian infrastructure is ethically indefensible but tactically rational, just as Hamas' use of suicide bombers and indiscriminate rocket attacks is ethically indefensible but tactically rational.

"This is very much a 'lesser of two evils' situation"

No, it isn't. When is the last time that an Israeli or Palestinian has been successfully prosecuted for a war crime by his/her own superiors? You could probably find a few examples of Israelis being prosecuted, but indictments/prosecutions/convictions for either side don't come anywhere near the rate of alleged war crimes. To suggest that either side is the "lesser" of two evils is laughable at best.

By comparison, if an American commander deliberately shelled an Afghan village with white phosphorous (or, from the Palestinian perspective, launched an indiscriminate rocket artillery attack against a random piece of populated land) REGARDLESS of whether or not confirmed enemies were present, he/she would spend a very, *very* long time in Fort Leavenworth.

In my opinion, the first side that starts policing up its own ranks will be able to claim the moral high ground, for whatever that's worth.

Good, because he doesn't appear to be a trained expert in reading comprehension:

"In my opinion, the first side that starts policing up its own ranks will be able to claim the moral high ground"

If memory serves, numerous American servicemembers were prosecuted and incarcerated for Abu Ghraib. Furthermore, mistreating POWs is a relatively minor war crime, compared to suicide attacks on civilians or dropping incendiary devices on civilian targets.

Ah I see, mentioning 'Abu Ghraib' to you americans is the same as stating that Hiroshima and Nagasaki were cruel and unnecessary. Harsh truths huh?

You have no 'moral high ground'. None. But I guess believing that you do allows you to continue 'business as usual'. Sad state of affairs.
TrPrado (461 D)

"Ah I see, mentioning 'Abu Ghraib' to you americans is the same as stating that Hiroshima and Nagasaki were cruel and unnecessary. Harsh truths huh?" That, OR you didn't acknowledge his argument whatsoever, and just brought something up that a) is irrelevant, and b) entirely misrepresents Gunfighter's idea.
"You have no 'moral high ground'. None. But I guess believing that you do allows you to continue 'business as usual'. Sad state of affairs." I'm not an exceptionalist, you're just stupid.

To fair. It remains true that the USA has no moral high ground. For example, the only person to have gone to jail over torture was the whistleblower, not any of the perpetrators.
