You don't need a PP account to donate. I don't have one and I've donated several times. You just need a credit card.

I honestly don't know. AFAIK, Kestas hasn't published that info. I'm pretty sure any amount should get you bronze, but don't hold me to that.

@draug: The reason I was suggesting 4 digit user IDs as opposed to people who joined in Abge's Birthyear (2008) was specifically to keep you out! you are a 2008er, but unfortunately you're past the 10k mark!

but seriously - I just donated, and normally I wouldn't care about getting credit, but I kinda like the idea of donaters only games- so I'm curious, how do they know it was me? My PayPal account has a different email than the one I use here (I'm very careful about spam, and I own 5 domains, so I have like 35 emails I use for shit like paypal) so I hope it's not correlated that way. I hope that there is a post variable (My user id (which is 4 digits by the way ... suck it Draug!) for instance) which correlates the two.

So this made me curious about the first forum conversation I had with abgemacht, so I checked my postings and searched for his name, then found the earliest occurance, and found a math-related thread regarding the probability of getting turkey 9 times out of 27 or something. Anyway for the math lovers, or the nostalgic types, its an interesting read. It features such ledends as Mad Marx, the Ghostmaker (of GR fame) and the inventor of the Lepanto (seriously the original fucking inventor of it used to play here) Edi Birsan contributing to the conversation. Oh and there's some guy named Kestas who posted on that one too. Not sure who he is, but I hear his name thrown out a lot.

@Nigee, I think he just plays FtF games. It seemed like he was on the site as research into how the online Dip community compares with the FtF community, which he's been involved in since the 70's or something. I'm sure he wrote a paper about us somewhere. He didn't like that we didn't use our real names, he didn't ike the childish behavior on the forum, etc. This was prior to anonymous games, I'm sure he would have had a lot to say about that too.

Abge joined in Febraury 2008. I joind in December 2008. That means WebDip (well PhpDip back then) more than doubled in size in those 10 months. Wouldn't it be cool if Kestas could put a page up with a growth chart for the site? I'd build one, but I don't have access to the raw data and ripping thru the accounts from 1 to however many thousand (20k, 30k?) would bring this site to its knees - something I don't want to do despite past threats to do so.

Total aside here. I wonder how many of the 51,000 players that are registered here are still "active?" By active I mean have participated in a game in the last year.

There are about 3000 players on GR, meaning they finished a game in the last 3 months.
