Replacement
Replacement france needed. France is in a very good position at 9 centers and was recently banned due to a multi. And strongly allied with me =).

Concern mod intervention pauses
If a player has requested a pause and the only hold out has failed to post a message or moves (and so appears near NMR), will the mods force pause so that neither the pause-request player nor the near-NMR-hold-out player NMR? I do not wish to waste their time with a request they'll deny.

It seems I may be in need of a sitter
I have one game. Which may or may not be unpaused, when I leave. If they decide to unpause it I will need someone to watch over it. Post interest, and I will PM you the details.

Egypt elects Muslim Brotherhood member Mohammad Morsi as President
The president-elect wants "closer relationships with Iran." What does the forum make of this? Does it imply that Egypt's relationship with Israel will be less close, or is it simply a part of community-building in the muslim world? Is the election of Morsi a positive or negative development for Egypt? Discuss.

well done krellin, i can feel a lot easier about my posts
I do not know the details of what the "president elect" ( although there were two of them last I heard ) of Egypyt has proposed.

I don't think there is an easy "military" solution to Iran, so perhaps Diplomacy could be tried, yet again.

I hadn't been thinking too much about what the changes in Egypt will mean for it's Foreign Policies, I have been thinking mainly in terms of hoping that Egypt's domestic situation improves, that the lives of the "ordinary people" of Egypt improve.

@Major....well, you admit that you know nothing about what the "elected" people have to say, haven't thought much about the impact, etc.....but you choose to comment? Fucking moron.

@Major...."Improvements" in Egypt? Well...since Obama, the King Maker has declared and backed the Muslim Brotherhood candidates....who will then disavow the US....what it means DOMESTICALLY is that any woman in Egypt.....

....oh for fucks sake....READ the damned posts above. basically, 50% of the population just lost the status of personahood, and cn be killed at will by their husbands/fathers, can't participate in government, can't get an education, can't drive, etc.

what the fuck is so hard to figure out about that? And OBAMA BACKS THIS...

"The liberal and socialist groups in Egypt are numerous enough that the Brotherhood cannot really make the country Iran on the Nile"

Where are you getting these numbers from? The liberals and socialists are pathetically small.

"It's funny that you worry so much about Iranian influence and yet support Assad's Syria."

Assad's support for Iran is calculated and has been based on either opposition to Iraq (in the 80s) or the US (the 2000s). It's a quintessential realist alliance which didn't really exist in the 90s since neither Iraq nor the US were a problem. More recently though, Syria supported the insurgency in Iraq. Iran supported the US-installed government. If you'll notice the main driving force behind the Syrian opposition is the Syrian Muslim Brotherhood, which is a more fundamentalist and hateful version of Egypt's. Assad is by far the most progressive government in the region, by any measure.

"I don't think a war will come from Egypt, or at least not from Egypt's government."

No, Egypt is not going to start a war, but they affect the balance of power in the region. Iran now has a friendly Egypt, an Egypt less pragmatic and more hostile to Israel, and antagonistic to Riyadh. The history of the Middle East doesn't really have as much to do with American or Superpower policy as it does regional rivalries, and this result is only going to intensify them. The Saudis strongly backed Shafiq in this election, so they see this as a defeat for them.

Warm Colors vs. Cool Colors.
The Idea behind the game is that it begins with 2 alliances.Russia, France and Italy start as the Cool Colors. Turkey, Austria and England begin as the Warm Colors. Germany is the swing, and can pick either side or be in it for themselves. The game is global chat and I'd like to get some mischief players in on this. Its a PPSC, and 2 days per phase.

...what?
gameID=92614

Italy CD'd for no reason. Russia and I had voted for a draw most of the game. England would only move a few units each turn and not vote for a draw, even though Russia had a clear advantage. Around 2012 Russia withdraws a draw vote, then England moves to the North. So *both England and Russia* suddenly vote for a draw. ???

US policy in Africa - nobody cares
200,000 people may lose their livelihoods thanks to the petty expiration of a free-trade agreement in the US, and no one seems to care, according to this blog post.
