The NHL Playoffs Are SET! (Who've You Got?)
All 16 teams are set! The Rangers and Blackhawks just squeak in, the Hurricanes and Stars jsut miss out, and all three California teams, the Kings, the sharks, and my Ducks, are in the playoffs...more Californian teams than Canadian teams! So...who'll defeat who, and when the dust settles, which team will get to drink from Lord Stanley's Cup this year? :D

In the WESTERN CONFERENCE...

1. Canucks vs. 8. Blackhawks (Canucks in 5, Chicago just doesn't have enough left...)

2. Sharks vs. 7. Kings (Sharks in 5, I do NOT have confidence in the Kings' attack given its recent drought)

3. Red Wings vs. 6. Coyotes (Wings in 4, the Yotes are swept--swept away for good, back to Winnipeg...)

4. Ducks vs. 5. Predators (Ducks in 6, the Preds have tested the Ducks at times during the yhear, but Anaheim just has too much firepower)

Second Round...

1. Canucks vs. 4. Ducks (Canucks in 7, the Ducks have won late in comebacks a LOT lately, but Vancouver just has a bit too much for my Ducks...hope I'm wrong!)

2. Sharks vs. 3. Red Wings (Red Wings in 4, I just get the sense San Jose will get blown out here)

Western Conference Finals:

1. Canucks vs. 3. Red Wings (Canucks in 7, Detroit takes it deep thanks to veteran experience, but this is Vancouver's year)

EASTERN CONFERENCE:

1. Capitals vs. 8. Rangers (Rangers in 6 in a STUNNER, they're playing for their lives now and I don't buy the Caps in the playoffs AT ALL)

2. Flyers vs. 7. Sabres (Flyers in 5 in a relatively-easy set for Philly)

3. Bruins vs. 6. Canadiens (Canadiens in 6 on just a hunch...)

4. Penguins vs. 5. Lightning (Lightning in 5, without Sid the Kid, I think the Pens are ready for a fall)

Second Round...

2. Flyers vs. 8. Rangers (Flyers in 4 as New York's Cindrella run hits midnight, out of gas...)

5. Lightning vs. 6. Canadiens (Lightning in 6, the Habs challenge but Tampa's Lecavalier comes through as always)

Eastern Conference Final...

2. Flyers vs. 5. Lightning (Lightning in 5 in a shocker--pardon the pun--as the Lightning, I think, are really underestimated, and it'll cost the Flyers.)

STANLEY CUP:

CANUCKS over LIGHTNING in 7 (A GREAT Cup final, with Tampa taking an early lead, but losing it to the Sedin Twins.)

Bonus shots from around the league:

-The Coyotes plan FINALLY fails and the team goes back to Winnipeg, either to become the Jets again or hoist a new name (though the return of the Jets would be nice)

-Atlanta goes up for sale and starts the 2011-12 season in dire straights, and could wind up in Quebec in a year or so...

-The Islanders make some sort of large move to attract some desperately-needed fans and attention back

I kind of follow the NHL but my team, the Oilers, hasn't been doing so well for a few years. Towards the end of this season my friend and I were cheering for the Senators so that we'd have a better shot at first-round draft pick. Again. It's kind of shameful to get dead last and first pick two years in a row but I guess it can help rebuild the team.

I am hoping Vancouver wins however I would also be happy with Montreal winning. All that matters is that Canada wins.

LOL "No, it's hockey, eh?"

And yeah...the Oilers...sorry, gman...well, you had the 1980s and Gretzky and Messier at least, right? :)

1. Vancouver over 8. Chicago in seven.
2. San Jose over 7. Los Angeles in six.
3. Detroit over 6. Phoenix in six.
5. Nashville over 4. Anaheim in seven.

1. Vancouver over 5. Nashville in five
2. San Jose over 3. Detroit in six (pains me as a Wings fan but bad defense and goaltending is a recipe for disaster)

2. San Jose over 1. Vancouver in seven.

1. Washington over 8. New York in five.
7. Buffalo over 2. Philly in seven
3. Boston over 6. Montreal in five.
4. Pitt over 5. Tampa Bay in seven.

1. Washington over 7. Buffalo in six.
3. Boston over 4. Pitt in six

1. Washinton over 3. Boston in six

FINALS:
Washington over San Jose in seven.

Well obi, I ALONE predicted Packers over Steelers in your NFL thread and got ZERO props.

Should I even bother?
Tom Bombadil (4023 D(G))

Wow. Thats impressive maple. I think NHL is the hardest because to me there is the most parity in the NHL than any other sport.
obiwanobiwan (248 D)
11 Apr 11 UTC
No, by all means, maple...if you were that good at the NFL, go ahead, pick your teams! (Though I think your Leafs, sadly, have no chance...sorry, I just predict a 0% chance they'll win the Cup...call it crazy, just a hunch...)

And AH! Tom Bombadil...how could you pick the Preds over my Ducks Round 1!

DEEPLY saddened...

Sorry TB. Football is a one game knockout format and hockey is best of seven. It's way easier for upsets in football.
Tom Bombadil (4023 D(G))

I despise the Ducks more than any other team in the NHL. Sorry. They just are a bunch of thugs who try to injure good players on other teams. I especially hate Perry, as good as he is.
Tom Bombadil (4023 D(G))
11 Apr 11 UTC
Also, Nashville is one of my favorite teams as they get no credibility and consistently do well with the limited resources they have. Barry Trotz should win the Jack Adams but he won't...

You don't check the results of your OWN FUCKING PREDICTION THREADS?

All of this typing is like sex(in your case, jerking off) for you, isn't it obi?

The content is fucking meaningless. It's just the finger exercise, right?

Go back NOW, and GIVE ME MY FUCKING PROPS, YOU STUPID FUCKING JEW.
obiwanobiwan (248 D)

maple, maple, no need to get your panties in a twist...we all give you the due props for your brilliant pick in the NFL playoffs...so please, share that guru wisdom with us in the NHL, unless you don't want to...or don't think you can bottle lightning twice (after all, how hard would it be to bottle the Lightning right now, they're on a roll.)

And...

:O

The DUCKS are the dirtiest team in the NHL?! HA!

Did you SEE the Ducks/Kings game last night? Jack Johnson crosschecks Selanne, slames his head crown-first right into the boards, he could've broken his neck, NO CALL, and then proceeds to smash him over the head with his fist AGAIN, and that finally drew a call...

The Kings are a far dirtier team than the Ducks!

We have George Parros, and Corey Perry's a colorful player, sure--50 goals, though, NO ONE is complaining!--but that's it, nothing like the thugs teams like Los Angeles, Philadelphia, and so on have...

I think your RED WINGS are dirtier than my Ducks! ;)

Tom Bombadil (4023 D(G))

"I think your RED WINGS are dirtier than my Ducks! ;)" lawls

I did not see the game, but I just know that Corey Perry has gotten in a fight with Brian Rafalski (playoffs a couple years ago) and Datsyuk (opening game this year). Thats pretty dickish for a guy as big as Perry
obiwanobiwan (248 D)
11 Apr 11 UTC
Eh, Perry just gets in fights with everyone, it's not like he just picks on the little guys (and iof I recall, Pavel at least really showed his stuff in that fight!) ;)
Tom Bombadil (4023 D(G))
11 Apr 11 UTC
Yeah, he does fight everyone, but I think he needs to calm down on the littler guys. He might wind up hurting someone who can't handle it.

Toronto.
One day...

Sorry obi, Rinne has already shown he knows Perry and Selanne like the back of his glove. Maybe home advantage gives it to the Ducks, but with Ellis likely starting, it doesn't look good.
Tom Bombadil (4023 D(G))
11 Apr 11 UTC
Rinne is an absolute beast!
Geofram (130 D(B))
11 Apr 11 UTC
Flyers look like crap right now and the Sabres are on fire. Miller will carry that team, hopefully beating out Washington.
Geofram (130 D(B))
11 Apr 11 UTC
I don't really care who wins the cup, as long as Washington, Pitt, and Montreal are kicked out early and hard.
obiwanobiwan (248 D)
11 Apr 11 UTC
He ws on last night, something close to 35 shots and only 1 goal...

But yea, Ellis is no Hiller--damn, hurts that he was injured, this vertigo thing he has is spooky, what if he never gets back in form?--but Emery's been solid down the stretch...

And Perry, Selanne, Ryan and the rest have just been on such a roll it's incredible, I think the adrenaline of hime ice and that momentum they have carries them past Rinne, who's the only real obstacle with the Preds, and then...well, hen it's likely Vancouver adn the ride ends, but one round won would be nice.
Geofram (130 D(B))
11 Apr 11 UTC
Ellis is no Emery (who is still injured) is no Hiller who is definitely no Rinne.

But Rinne the only real obstacle from Nashville? The Ducks need to be scared. Klein and O'Brien will shut down that forward line, or Visnovsky and Lydman will. Take your pick. Predators have a lot of young blood ready to go for the playoffs. If Hornqvist and Fisher can squeak out an early lead, it'll be an uphill battle for Anaheim to get anywhere near the goal.

With a defence matching that offence, its going to be all on the Duck's goalie.
Geofram (130 D(B))
11 Apr 11 UTC
shit. Did I just say Lydman? >.<

Will coalition survive AV vote debacle?
What do you make of Huhne going off the deep end on the Tories? I think Cameron's crowd really made a mess of things by attacking the Libs for broken promises when those broken promises helped support the Tories in government. I think an election is likely. What say you?

So the thread about OBL has been dragging on with the two sides getting nowhere. I propose a fixed-alliance game of Diplomacy to solve it. On one side will be me, Invictus and Santa Clauswitz. On the other will be Darwyn, Sicarus and mapleleaf. The final unalligned player will be someone who hated the entire thread such as Sayjo or Siddhartha. My challenge has been put forth, I hope you all accept.
