probably true as far as scoring, but when somebody has a lot of survives in relation to defeats i'm more willing to deal with them and less likely to stab them. they're probably a good defensive tactician and a better diplomat, so even though this specific case is a marginal distinction, it can certainly matter to me.

Actually, I see it as a safe and fair move. In a FTF game, you know what players do the stabs, what players always lose, and all that jazz. Also, in real war, a general would STUDY, not just check, on a foe's track record.

Have I mentioned how much I love the anonymous game feature that was put in? It avoids the whole 'check players stats, rank, and past game' crap. I don't want to enter a game when you've already decided to ally with MadMarx against me without hearing a word first...

On a side note to this topic. I recently finished a PPSC game in which the last year a couple of people went CD including a player with 14 SC's. In the final year I disbanded the only unit of the only player left...but left him an SC to end the game. I finished with 18 centers and the only player left had the 1. Now 5 powers were still on the board, 3 of them CD. The total dip points in the game were 157. I got 148 and the player with 1 SC got 9 . Seems like I should have only received a little more than half.

The problem with using survives is not knowing how many are by 1-2 SCs verse 5-6, or 12-17. Someone who survives less often but does so by large margen could well be a better player than someone who survives more often but by 1-2 SCs.

@ Spell of Wheels, I don't think supply centers in CD are counted when allocating the points per supply center. So you had 18/19ths of the supply centers and the other player had 1/19th. Doing the math, 157/19*18 = 148.7 and 157/19*1 = 8.3. By my way of thinking you would have gotten 149 and the other player would have gotten only 8 . So I must be wrong about some part of the logic being used.

Although, I also thought that part of version 0.9 was that the winner of a PPSC would only get 1 more than half the supply centers worth of points. So if you won with 20 out of 34 supply centers you'd still only get 18/34s while everyone else split the remaining. But maybe it is just doing a max of 18 rather than one more than half the valid supply centers.

Alderian... No you aren't wrong. I went back and looked at the game it was a pot size of 156. There actually was 1 more point given out than was actually placed in the pool !!! gameID=16884

I think points from the pot always round up. Being as it isn't like a cash prize and we have freely given points (new accounts, accoutns that fall below 100 total points, etc) it's no big deal.

It just seems strange that as I entered the game, my expectation was to receive no more that 83 . If I hadn't let Russia survive with a SC, then it would have been winner take all. Odd.

Maybe. I know there was some discussion about the possibility that four players splitting say, 37 in a draw would give on back to the site, but splitting 28 would result in taking two extra from the site a while back.

It used to be that the points per single supply center was rounded before being multiplied by the number of supply centers. So an 8 point buy in (56 total) would result in 68 going out. That was the big thing that got fixed.

Spell, regarding going into the game expecting at most 83 , what is the right thing to do with all the points the CD centers represent? Should the person with one supply center left get the leftover 73 ? I guess that would be a reward for sticking it out.

Or, maybe the active players should get pot / 34 * supply centers, and then whatever is left over from CD players gets split evenly between the remaining players. So you would have gotten 83 + 34 (117 ) while the other person would have gotten 5 + 34 (39 ).

but I think your last formula seems more fair. Poor Russia didn't even get his buy-in back and he finished 2nd in a PPSC game. It was very odd that Turkey went CD the last year with 14 centers. Maybe he thought he playing WTA....IDK.
