Once you buy into a game you lose the points. You "buy" a stake or "power" in that game. You don't have any points that aren't in your account. The only indicator that you might have would be looking at your game's pots, calculating your expected result and totalling that number.

Pot / 34 * N where N = number of SCs you control will give you your current net worth in PPSC games. In WTA, if you aren't in the lead or tied for it, you aren't in the money...

Based on those figures and dividing the one WTA game I'm tied for first in (so divided by 2) my current vesting is 246 so I have a total net worth of 328.

I ran your numbers through Excel and came up with your networth at 86 Daggers, 84 in games and 2 in the bank.

By the way, Chelsea. I (and I'm sure others agree) think 10 games is probably more than you should attempt at any one time.

Indeed, you should probably cut down on games because you'll only lower your standard of play.

If you're wondering about the 100 point minimum when you're not in any games, that's based on your bets, not your values in the games.

For your value in any game, the formula is slightly more complicated than Draugnar presented. It's actually:

PPSC * N where N is number of SCs you own.
PPSC = Round(Pot / ASC) where ASC are the active SCs owned - i.e. 34 - CDSCs - NuetralSCs.

For instance - take a look at:

This has a CD russia in Spring 01 (possibly a ban?) so there are lots of Neutrals still.

Pot = 140
CDSCs = 4
NuetralSCs = 12

So pot / 34 x 4 = 16.47 or 16 rounded down, but you can see the buyin is much greater than that.

PPSC = Round(Pot / ASC) = Round(140 / 18) = Round(7.77) = 8

so PPSC * 4 = 32, which is the buy in as you can see.

HEy philcor, I wasn't trying to provide the buyin, just a means of estimating your current net worth. For what it is worth, I haven't looked at the code, but I know I got a rounding done after the multiplication recently as my points earned would have been lower in a recent draw if the roudning were done at the SC level, not at the whole nation level.

http://phpdiplomacy.net/board.php?gameID=7969 earned me 15 points for 10 SCs, but the put was only 54 points, meaning a rounding down would have given 1 per SC and a proper rounding would have given 2. The only way I could get 15, not 10 or 20, is if the rounding were at the nation level.

Drauger - it turns out the amount you get for winning or surviving is the exact same formula as the buy in for a CD. I probably should have mentioned that for clarity.

But in the game you're refering to, that was drawn, so the three of you should have split the pot evenly. Since 54 is divisible by 3, I can't see any reason why each of you wouldn't have gotten 18 instead of 15. But I haven't looked at the code for drawing. Maybe I'll check it out real quick and reply again.

Yeah, I haven't looked at the code at all. Too much of my own code to work on. But, if what you describe is true, then people are getting ripped off of points somewhere. For instance, a 35 point pot (5x7 buyin) would only give out 34 points in payment.

I guess we could consider that the house's rake.

Here is the draw code:
$winnings = round($this->pot / $players);

and it counts the players right above it in the function setDrawn(). Are you absolutely sure you got 15 and not 18?

As far as the rake - it evens out, because in that game say instead of 14/10/10 and a draw, it was 18/6/10 and you still had 10 but wew got the win.The points would have been distributed:
wideyedwanderer: 36 (a 7.38 rounding error in his favor)
you: 20 (a 4.1 rounding error in your favor)
VincentL: 12 (a 2.46 rounding error in his favor)

for a total of 68 - 14 points more than was in the pot.

This only happens this extreme (percentage wise) when the pot is so small, by the way. But it all evens out in the end

I could be mistaken and got 18. Didn't pay that close of attention. Your alternative makes sense, but somewhere I read it always rounds down (more of an INT or FLOOR than a ROUND function). With true rounging then the players may make more or less than they should have. If I were coding it, the rounding would occur at the nation level, not the SC level. But that's just my $.02 and 25 years of experience.

you might have actually heard that from me while I was trying hard to guess what the hell was going on with the points a few months ago. When someone pointed me at the code, I figured, hell - I'll just look and see exactly what it's doing, rather than trying to reverse-engineer some formula from it.

But there was a point where I sugested floats instead of ints, and assuming it must be truncating, (floor) rather than true rounding, and all kinds of crazy guesses. The part I was always missing, when I was trying to figure it all out, was that it's only the active players SCs that are included in the calculation.

Interesting... So an 18 SC win in a game where 1 SC was never claimed and 6 others were in CD means the person with 18 gets 2/3 of the Ds +/- due to rounding at the SC. Very Interesting...

yeah - if a game ends with a player in CD then all survivors benefit - not just the winner. They each proportionally split up the CD's winnings, in effect. A reward for sticking it out till the end!
