GFDT - Account sitter needed!
Actually, now that Hyperactive Jam mentions it...I will need someone to sit my account beginning April 17th to the 20th.

I somehow made the finals for the Grand Festive Diplomacy Tournament. The final round starts April 13th (Thanks thewonderllama!) and I will be gone during the aforementioned period.

Any takers?

My only stipulation is...well, hell, I can't really think of one. How will I choose? I don't know...you tell me.

Game ending messages
Kestas - Can you add a link to the game in the Gamemaster messages that appear in the forum about winning/losing that game. I frequently want to check out the final board but I have to scroll through the Finished Game tab to search for my game.

Larger text area
If you don't like the small text area for communicating with other players in games, you may like the user style sheet that makes it much larger (about 10 rows high).

Multiple Accounts
Is it alright for me to create a second account so that I can play more games at once, provided I never have both accounts join the same game?

Please don't waste anyone's time by turning this into a discussion about cheating or metagaming. I just want a simple answer to a simple question.

Have u ever played dip ftf
as in face to face, just curious if anyone else has ever played this game with 6 close friends. It does add some interesting aspects. When England and France go into a huddle Germany is finished.

Yes. And actually, everyone huddles with everyone, so you never know who is allied with who - until the moves are laid out - or even what they are discussing. Also, other people can meet in secret while you are off with someone else, and thus, you never know about the meeting. So, Germany doesnt know its screwed the moves are laid. It's really quite fun.

Yes, it adds another dimension that is, to me, 70% of the fun, but the 30% is still so fun that I come on this site lol.

Yeah, and it was over a long term too, the phases lasted a week each. So there was a lot of spying and subterfuge, and whispered meetings behind shrubbery etc.

Often...

Still do with all sorts of suspects from on here. Absolutely marvelous at its best.

The number of different ways to stab people as well as the very real aspect of mitakes made under pressure (for writing orders) makes it the game of games for me.

I learned the game in grade six. PC's did not exist at that time. lol.

I've played FTF twice. Once with the 2 player rules, once with a group. I stabbed the shit out of my friend and was hooked. :)

Oh the drama of it is quite outstanding. The look of shock on a player's face when he realises his rock solid alliance with you is in shatters when you've captured three of his supply centres in the autumn turn.

Best is when you play your work colleagues. I thought I was on to a sure fire winner. I've played three times, and been annihilated every time. Given I work in politics, and they're a load of shifty bleeps, should I have been that surprised?

It was great, unfortunately it is not easy to find 7 people who know the game, like the game, have a big lump of time free at the same time and... you get the point, obviously the web has a bigger audience. Its a shame really because sometimes a big gathering of playing board games is much more enjoyable than the usual computer consoles.

Kestas: possible metagaming, pls look
Hey, Kestas,

Pls, check players Kenneth I and muddyhell for metagaming.

Muddyhell has played all games only with Kenneth I. They log on in the same time also. You may look this game for example: http://phpdiplomacy.net/board.php?gameID=3190

PS. I'm not going to blame friends, who may play the same game. But I would like to be sure, that the game is fair.

Thank you!

Ethics
I'm trying to jump on the metagaming/multi-accounting bandwagon here, but is it ok to create multiple accounts to essentially play a game with yourself to win more points?

Player Farcus189 accounts for half his wins and more than half his points this way. http://phpdiplomacy.net/board.php?gameID=2729

Meta-gaming
Sure its a big thing, but a huge problem with ppl trying to catch them is that they find it where there isnt anything at all. All the sudden a simple alliance or backstab becomes this huge meta-gaming scheme, and I hate meta-gamers as much as the next player, but make sure that it is actually meta-gaming before you shoot your mouth off.

Bi-coastal support question
Does anyone remember: can a fleet on one coast support a fleet attacking from the other coast to a bi-coastal territory. Example: Can Gulf of Bothnia support a Barrents Sea attack on St. Petersburg? Is the answer to my question the same for both official rules and for phpDip?

Help for the colorblind!
Any chance we can shade the color of Austria and Germany a little different? I am colorblind (the actual term is color-deficient) and I have tremendous difficulty telling those two apart. The rest of the colors are fine.

If 10% of the male population is colorblind, I can't be the only one that has this problem.

Desert Island Game
Too many serious threads currently dominating the forum. I'm all for a good debate every once in a while but the last few weeks have been grueling.

So now we're going to play the desert island game. You're stranded on a desert island (with electricity and other amenities). What book, movie, and album do you have with you?

Book: The World According to Garp by John Irving
Movie: Superbad
Album: "Discovery" by Daft Punk

i just came across the idea of having a 'rankings' page next to the forums/games/settings/etc pages. it would allow people to see how many points difference between the next/previous closest players and make the whole site a little more competitive i think.
