A friend and I are wanting to do a dramatic interpretation together about how the media doesn't report on things that should matter, after much discussion about the genocide currently happening in Myanmar. I gave other examples, such as the wildfires that weren't reported on in Montana during the onslaught of hurricanes in the US, as well as the events going on in the Sahara, and I started talking about how media outlets report on what's going to get them views and money, so when a disaster happens in the US, such as 9/11, it will be reported on to no end. This method of airing then leads to the ultimate profiting off of the lives and safety of humans. In summary, we were both just ranting about how much the media sucks.
She says, "You like slam poetry right?" And I said, "yes, of course" and she says that we should do a piece on this together. After some thought, I came up with the name, "The Muted Voices of the Damned," with those voices being the voices of Myanmar citizens being affected by this genocide, as well as other invisible people struggling. The basis of the piece is that these people are being ignored while all the attention is going to the NFL players, rather than to the huge things going on currently in places like the Sahara and Myanmar.
Now, the reason the Subject of this thread is "Dramatic interpretation on..." Is because the event we want to compete in doesn't have a category for original poetry, rather, just prose and original oratory. However, this event did have a category for Dramatic Interpretation, which is where you interpret something, whether it's a story, or an event, as long as it's dramatic (Humorous interp has its own category)
The reason I'm posting this is to see what you all think about the topic, more so than the Interpretation itself. Some insight and thoughts on this issue (Even if you don't find it to be an issue at all) would be more than helpful and I hope this is sufficient to the topic I promised to put into the thread.
(I also wouldn't mind hearing some ideas as to how two people could dramatically deliver this on a stage)
Let the discussion begin.
