Behaviorism
According to Wikipedia, “The behaviorist school of thought maintains that behaviors as such can be described scientifically without recourse either to internal physiological events or to hypothetical constructs such as thoughts and beliefs.”

Do you think this is appropriate? If so, does that make you optimistic or pessimistic about the prospects for human happiness?

Fairly Cheap Website Hosting and Webdesign
€7,50/month, €90/year to host a site with up to 5 GB of space and monthly bandwidth, my help when needed, many 1-click installations, webmail accounts for your domain, excellent reliability and English support. Easy. Quite all-inclusive except domain registration. That’s £5,99/month or $9.93/month. International transactions cost a bit too. Prices change. You can make me a personal offer. Price for webdesign depends on workload but think 3 digits. More inside.

Standard and Poor's 500 index breaks through 2000 for the first time
The Standard and Poor's 500 index broke through 2000 for the first time today. What do you think of that?

Obama is nuetered, the Democrats will not make enough gains in November to do anymore damage to the economy - so government stagnation is the play for the next two years. Market's should continue as they have....not the best business environment, but no more damage can be done....coupled with continued low interest rates, and the constant (though slowwwwwly diminishing) pumping form the Fed, the markets should continue strong...

Unless some sort of global chaos fucks everything up...but the markets seem to be absorbing the mass murders of hundreds of thousands quite well, having no fear that America stands for morality anymore, and thus recognizing that, right or wrong, we won't stick our heads (or soldiers or wealth) into saving the savages around the world other than to fling a few rockets or drones are bad guys just to appease the press.

Buy and hold. Leveraged Index funds if you are brave.

With continued low interest rates, and the US being the lesser of all evils as far as world equities go, it's the most viable place to be long equities. Take that with a grain of salt though. If you are a new investor, allocate only portions of your monies on monthly basis. The markets are trading macro events, and a 10% slide should be in the cards sometime this year. Consolidation is good for the market, so look to cost average for the longer term

The market is overdue for a correction, but with the Fed holding short term rates near 0% for another year it pushes people to buy stocks.

The desire to buy equities in a 0 interest rate environment is the search for yield.

I'd be surprised if we had a ten percent slide. We just had a five percent slide and bounced right out of it.

Krellin, the economy being bad when Obama entered office was his fault, but the economy getting better while he's still in office isn't?

OK.

ghug - I never said the economy being bad when he entered office was his fault -- but the utterly *dismall* and *slow* recovery over the past 6 years is TOTALLY the fault of Democrat / Obama policy. You look at how fast the economy turned around under Reagan and Clinton, and compare it to Obama -- he is an *utter* failure.
krellin (80 DX)
26 Aug 14 UTC
@ghug - See "Tax Inversion" thread - perfect example. Aggressive corporate tax policy, coupled with an increasingly burdensome regulatory structure, is driving business from the US. Perfect example of and Obama adminstration failure.

and where is our KeyStone pipeline that the overwheming majority of Americans desire, which would lower the ever-increasing burden of energy costs?

@Tru Ninja -

"For the record, I think that it's both standard of you all to post such comments, and poor of you all to not see where I'm going with this"

Nope, not poor at all to not see where you're going, since you didn't communicate where that was.

I have no idea what you're talking about; moreover I have no idea who you are. Are you my second grade teacher? No? As such the forum equivalent of the "disapproving stare" isn't a great way to communicate.

Should New Game settings include ejection for multiple NMRs?
Do you think that the NEW GAME settings should allow for automatic ejection from games for # of NMRs and/or # of consecutive NMRs?

What would happen if...
What would happen if I convoy an army from Belgium to Holland using my fleet in the north sea as well as order my other fleet at Holland to move to Belgium, simultaneously?
Is this possible?

PS: I know it would be same as ordering F:Hol->North Sea, F:North Sea-> Bel, A:Bel->Hol; but just curious. ;)

Gunboat support moves
I'm in a no messaging anonymous player game where I was dislodged because one player supported another into my territory. How common is it that without messaging a player would know the exact move to make to assist another? Should I report this to the mods? It just seems suspicious as there theoretically shouldn't be a way for the two players to communicate....

One more legend gone this summer...so many great nature documentaries, and like Robin Williams, he had a small part in Kenneth Branagh's "Hamlet," announcing that "Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are dead." RIP...Planet Earth's a little less awesome today.

Forum Thread Stars
Until recently, when you had posted in a thread, a star would appear next to the thread title on your screen, so that when you were scanning the forum, you'd quickly be able to see which threads you were involved in.

Now those little stars are gone. How come?
