ethical question

would lying about whether a move is possible be outside the standards of what is and isn't okay with regard to diploming? say a person is concerned about another player making a move that is impossible, should I tell him it is, or benefit from his not knowing?

Top 100 GR Players of All Time Games

As part of our effort to rejuvenate and grow the site, the mods and I are going to sponsor 3 or 4 "Top 100 GR Players of All Time" games.

The game entrance is 150

and will be waived if you do not have the points for it. All the games will be WTA Anon Full Press 36-48 hour phase depending on the players' preferences in their game, and the first game will consist of the top 7-ranking players who sign up and the second game with the next top 7 players and so forth. The games will start the first or second week of August so that we can be flexible.

If you are ranked in the top 100 GR of all time, please indicate your interest here (name, GR rank, any preference).

When you add yourself to the list, please add in it by ranking order so that it will be easier for us to work with.
Everyone is granted one 7-day pause if they so wish.

Also, we will also consider extending this to top 200 of all time if there is interest.

Ssorenn - because you're not looking at your rating, you're looking at your ranking. Your all time top rating and your current rating are the same (263).

Yup. Personally I prefer to look at the rating instead of the ranking, as then you can track your increase/decrease without being affected by inactive players/big movements by other players etc.

But, of course, the ranking is more important at tournaments time.

I'm in whenever the top 700 players tournament runs ;)

Hey, this thread and the other thread about discussing games (coupled with my ineligibility for this tournament) have given me an idea:

What if we had private QTs for discussing these games, as per the mafia thread? It would be interesting to have a peanut gallery discussing one or two of the higher rated games from this tournament.

I'd be happy to create and maintain the links (distributed via PM to interested parties not playing in each game), if there was enough interest (and no-one is strongly against the idea).

If any of the players in the game had access to read the discussion, I would withdraw from the game. I honestly believe the external influence unduly alters the outcome. Boone can read the discussion and not have it subconsciously influence their decisions.

If a QT is set up and no one in the QT is a doofus and gives away the link, there is zero risk of someone in one of the games getting access to the QT about the game. QT threads aren't indexed by search engines until they're posted on a webpage that is, so you wouldn't be able to find them as long as the people in them are careful.

Just to vouch for QTs, we've run four mafia games now where the mafia team used the QTs to communicate back-and-forth with one another, and where observers/dead players could discuss the game as it played out. Thus far we've had zero breaches -- and like I said, as long as the people involved aren't doofuses and hand it out, there's no risk of a breach either.

Final Thread for the 2014 Webdiplomacy Tournament

One game has yet to start and it will start today when the final player has informed me they will join.

On my profile page I have included the link to all 3 current boards. I have also posted the standings for players in the tournament. I will update my profile each round to show updated standings throughout the tournament.

NFL Pick 'em Week 7: ...In Which We Try to Avoid Ties! ;)

We'll get this one out a day earlier so we can include Thursday Night Blowouts (er, Football) as well. SO. Fresh off their tie, the Panthers travel to Lambeau to play the Packers, while the Bengals take on the Colts in a battle of AFC heavyweights. How does Pause work?

The FAQ doesn't show exactly how it works. What happens if we don't unpause after the time is done? Is the game canceled or does it just unpause with the time we had before?

My Life

You guys probably don't care about me very much, and probably didnt even notice when I was here, but this post is going to act as my retirement of sorts. I only played for about 6 months, but I was active in the Mafia games. Anyway, I am now in college, and have a girlfriend now, so I really dont have time for this site and just wanted to say goodbye to you all. This site has really helped me out as a closet nerd, so thanks to you all.
