C-diplo gunboats

#1 Post by Durga » Thu Jun 20, 2019 5:47 pm

Hey guys I'm looking to play some gunboats but the caveat is we'll force draw the game at the end of 1907. The game will be unranked, and have HDV on, but I'll ask a mod to force draw at the end of that year if we haven't drawn it ourselves.

The reason I have this particular rule is because WDC in Marseilles this year will follow this structure (although it won't be gunboat). So if you're going and want to practice, or you're a kind soul who wants to help me practice, please sign up!

I'll likely be looking for multiple games but let's start with one.

I plan on making the phase length 36 hours if that's cool.

That's a cool twist. I'll keep an eye on these signups... I'm in a bit too deep right now but I'm definitely interested. The 1907 rule looks like it strongly incentivizes aggressive openings at first glance.

Is the scoring still by player or is it by center?

Why would you ever want to play a force 1907 draw game... that's absurd

It is a tournament/league style scoring system.

Yes, but why?

What is the point of playing a Diplomacy game that ends so soon, before you even get a chance to play out the midgame?

1907 games are short and fun so that fewer players give up in the middle of them.
1907 are quick so more of them can be played which is good practice.
1907 games are intense, every move counts so they are the best way to learn tactics.

And finally 1907 games will be played at the WDC in Marseille, so better get used to them rather than complain afterwards that they are dumb...

Well they are dumb, don't sound fun, and I'd never go to France to play a board game, so... more power to you folks.

It would be like ending a hockey game after the first period. It's silly.

Reminds me of time limit forced draws in card games. It just means the game wasn't played to its natural completion, and it stinks.
