Good news. If we keep up our current rate of adding 1 new player every 3 months, we should be able to get started before the end of 2020.

I like the idea of a slow game with oldtimers. I’m on. I don’t care about the name, as long as I win.

The new forum + banning of a lot of old members that added personality to the website did it for me.

I'd be in if it were a live game. It's impossible to get one of those going.

What do you count as an old timer?

It seems an interesting bunch of players. Count me in if you still need one.

Well, I'd love to play, but I'm the inverse of an old timer.

I don't think of myself as an "oldtimer" but then I remember I've been on this site for almost 5 years now.

PM's sent. Went with the rules discussed in foodcoats' first post and a 30 DPC bet. Any objections?

For what little it is worth, I am back after a 3 year hiatus. I forgot how much I loved and hated this game

The forum feels super quiet. I notice it got massively split up into many sections. Wonder if having so many foruns diminished the community.

Nah not really. I did at first as well, because the new one doesn't do a great job of showing which threads on the whole forum are the most active. I mostly just use the homepage to jump in between threads now.

The forum is super quiet. The lively discussions you used to get have largely died off. It's mostly just mafia, tournaments, or the occasional game discussion now. We've become very much like Playdip.

As for the community, I don't know. The elements of it I enjoyed has largely stopped. The experience of members into mafia may well have a different experience.

Forum died when krellin and the D (who shall not be named cuz apparently he wanted to sue the site) got banned. Krellin had some quality banter. I would check the forum just to see what autism krellin posted and I was never disappointed. Then that Maple leaf guy was a total tard but he also had some grade A banter. The threads with a link to a sensationalist article bound to provoke with the caption "Discuss" were golden. It would have been nice if krellin and the rest didn't go full out and get banned, but it is what it is. Forum now is a lot more civil but the price of civility is mediocrity. Anyhow, I get my daily fix of good banter now from the comments section of this Drudge report app on my phone. I HIGHLY recommend it.

I don't know why we want trolling so much here. If you want that fix you can get it pretty much anywhere...

Because amongst the trolling you would find some of the finest and most diverse debates on the internet, and a remarkably strong community of diplomacy players passionate about the game and the site.

I don't think you appreciate how much the site has lost over the years. We used to have several live games of full press diplomacy every day. When the monthly ghost ratings were published it was a big event with scores of people waiting for them and asking about them if they were a day late. When the site was in trouble huge numbers of members stood up to volunteer donations. WebDip used to be by far the best place to play diplomacy on the internet.
