Re: unorthodax alliances
are the archenemies public, or does each player just know their own? what happens if someone gets to 18 before their enemy is defeated; doesn't the game end automatically?
Re: unorthodax alliances
I/T and A/T are both excellent alliances, and strong solo plays for either partner (which make them attractive options in the early game, before solos are risky).
What alliances would be unorothodox? I don’t see many E/R alliances past non-aggression

Re: unorthodax alliances
Interesting! How do you mitigate that the alliance incentivises both players to build fleets and stomp Italy? After that work is done, especially the Turkish fleet have nowhere to go other than sail west.

Re: unorthodax alliances
The archenemies are NOT announced, players only receive their own information. Players are free to announce (or lie) about whatever they want. When we played it, some folk announced, others did not, and some were deceitful. It all added to the grandeur, imo.
If the game ends because someone got to 18, although they did NOT destroy their enemy, they do not 'win,' (although the site stats, of course, can't tell that apart.) As we played it, win condition was ONLY destruction of your enemy.

Re: unorthodax alliances
If the parameters are clear to me, I'm available to assign random archenemies after the weekend.

I like the idea of a) private and b) randomly assigned archenemies! I suppose obvious honor system that no one will go for a solo if their arch isn't destroyed.
Here's a question: do we assign some other heuristic value to your arch being destroyed in the event of a draw? Suppose there's a 3-way finish but only one of the finalists destroyed their arch. Seems like they won.

Re: unorthodax alliances
In that game with the assigned enemies, you couldn't draw with your enemy, so all the drawing parties had to destroy first their enemy.

to be clear, the game continued until all remaining powers had eliminated their ae?PRINCE WILLIAM wrote: ↑Fri Nov 30, 2018 7:54 pmIn that game with the assigned enemies, you couldn't draw with your enemy, so all the drawing parties had to destroy first their enemy.

Re: unorthodax alliances
I'm certain that this will be a password protected invitee game. Which means that it would not violate the rules against the meta of playing with people you know IRL.
I'm totally fine with this, by the way. Though I don't speak for the other invitee's. I'd also then suggest that we don't play anon.
