Sorry! I only had a couple of minutes earlier, and was prioritizing easy ones to answer.
This is a tricky one. I think that he would be famous regardless of whether or not he has or has not gone missing*, and I found a Wikipedia list of people who have disappeared mysteriously; he is not on the list. But obviously something is unusual here given my "pass".
*Compare Harold Holt: being prime minister of Australia is obviously a big deal, but the main thing I know about him is that he disappeared.

After a night's sleep (and seeing your most recent question), I worry that my answer to this question was misleading. I think most people would say the answer is "Yes.".
