goldfinger0303: Can you update the table to show that the original Russia in Group A PP was DiplomatJD? (As in, add the name and cross it out next to zosch.)

Re: World Cup 2018 Signups!
Hi everyone,
I've decided to grant free pause time through Monday to anyone who will be attending this year's WDC in Washington, D.C. If you plan on attending, just send me a message and I'll pause the your games.

Re: World Cup 2018 Signups!
We're in the last stages of the tournament! We only have one match left , gunboat 2 .
Its largely a two horse race now, with Greatest Lakes in first with 622 points, and Cascadia trailing with 559. California takes a distant third at 202.5, and is mathematically out of the running for the top spot. A desperate gamble by Ezio in the FP game backfired, costing California their shot at challenging Greatest Lakes, and propelling Cascadia up to second place. A stagnant FP1 was just drawn - surprisingly with top team Greatest Lakes alive! I would have thought one of the contenders would've tried to mix it up a bit there.
But we have an exciting finish here, and should be done early in the new year!

Re: World Cup 2018 Signups!
I know there's been some discussion in another thread, but I wanted to wrap it up in this one.
Congratulations to Team Cascadia, for winning the 2018 World Cup! In one of the more lopsided Finals in the history of this tournament, this was largely a two-horse race between Cascadia and our second-place team, Greatest Lakes. But it was an enjoyable Finals nonetheless, with its own fair share of drama and exciting finishes.
Thank you to all of our participants and all of the team captains for joining me along this year-long ride.

Congrats Cascadia.
I'm just happy we didn't end on 2 points like last time :)

Congrats to Greatest Lakes for their punch-for-punch battle right up to the end. There's nothing better then a good ferocious rivalry and there was certainly a period there where we'd almost lost faith we'd be able to get the job done following that PP solo. Despite a few winces from time to time i absolutely loved the passion from you all, the tournament wouldn't have been anywhere near as fun without GL involved. Next time around you are definitely the one's to watch out for. I SO loved to hate you all (except Tom, you were simply a delight and bummed i didn't get to talk to you more).
And i have to give a big tip my hat to my teammates. It's rare i come across game play that still surprises me, but these guys dropped my jaw on a daily basis as to what was possible. I've got a newfound respect and appreciation for the skill involved in mastering Public Press and Gunboat and am in awe over the manner in which MadMarx soloed his game against what I'd almost conceded as insurmountable odds. It was phenomenal to be able to surround myself with such extraordinary talent am going to go into massive withdrawal going into this off-season where i don't get to check in with them on a regular basis.
Much respect to Ghug made this team all possible and is just a tremendous human being, his retirement to the mod team is going to be a massive loss to the site. I give credit to that guy for pioneering the first ODC tournament and everything that sparked off of it, including the subsequent cross-site community and FTF/online crossovers that have since dominoed (along with Carebear, wherever that guy disappeared to).
Thanks to all that participated and continue to keep my passion alive despite all my continued grumblings to eventually pack it in.

Likewise. Though I'm not sure if I'd classify anyone as a delight on your end :)VillageIdiot wrote: ↑Mon Jan 14, 2019 10:55 pmCongrats to Greatest Lakes for their punch-for-punch battle right up to the end. Re: World Cup 2018 Signups!
Congrats Cascadia. While I won't participate in this tourney again, its just a bit too much for me, I do think it is a good thing for the community and brings out a fun "team" aspect to the site in general, and that was a load of fun. The games were great (though the lined up at a poor time for me personally, which was a bit unfortunate), and getting to know my teammates was a highlight. Our discord group was a blast to be in throughout.
Much appreciation to goldie for running this. People don't appreciate how time consuming that probably was to coordinate games, manage pauses, and wrangle egos. Thanks much.
(I love you too VI - lets meet again)

How could you forget, there was only five of us? I couldn’t keep track of the revolving door of GL substitutions, but very nice of you to let every man, woman, and dog in the region get to each enjoy a couple rounds of tournament play.

The substitutions were unfortunate and hindered our play.VillageIdiot wrote: ↑Tue Jan 15, 2019 7:34 pmHow could you forget, there was only five of us? I however, am not teasing about the point prizes that I happen to know were pre-agreed on with the mod team as a condition to run the tournament. :) When can the winning teams and teams that made it to the finals be expecting those?
