rules for defeated nations
if i am defeated in a game, am i aloud to give advise to a different country?
Re: rules for defeated nations
Good question. Depends on whether it's a stand alone game v. tournament I'd think. My understanding is that there's some disagreement on this point.
Re: rules for defeated nations
If it was a press game, you can continue to send messages. Some frown upon this as face-to-face tournaments might not facilitate it, but we have no rule against post-mortem press.

I personally think it is bad form. Once you are dead, be quiet until the end, then say whatever you want.

If I'm dead, I always try to affect the game, with my old alliances. Saying how, oh my gosh, X betrayed me, you really need to move the ball on X. Or sometimes I go back into a game after I died, and say 'i told you not to betray me, but you just HAD too, and now Russia won, look at, just look at that'

too many people in web diplomacy, dont worry about the LONG game, and only about their personal squabbles
Re: rules for defeated nations
hey buddy once you're out of the game, who wins shouldn't matter to you.FlaviusAetius wrote: ↑Thu May 24, 2018 4:53 amtoo many people in web diplomacy, dont worry about the LONG game, and only about their personal squabbles

I tend to find that, after investing a fair amount of time and effort getting to know the other six players, that it's only natural to be interested in the eventual outcome. Whether you want to influence that or not I guess depends on how well you've got on with the others. If there's a player I have particularly enjoyed speaking to, and who is making a decent solo attempt, I can easily see myself doing what I can to encourage that result.
Re: rules for defeated nations
Dead players should be automatically muted until the game is over, when they can join in the post mortem discussion

Re: rules for defeated nations
Why? If we were considering the game as a simulation of early 20th century politics, a defeated leader making comments from exile is perfectly plausible. What's the argument for silencing people?
Re: rules for defeated nations
When you're dead you should regularly shitpost in the public press, but not in a manner that actually affects the game or gives advice.
There, now everyone's happy
or something

Re: rules for defeated nations
I see no need for any sort of rule, let alone the enforcement of, that would bar/punish a player for post-mortem press. Regulating this would be a tremendous hassle, and I'm uncomfortable with rules that impinge on press.
Besides, if a player's press was unable to keep them alive in the first place, what makes you think anyone will start listening once they're dead?

Yeah, this is literally a situation where no solution is required, because there is not actually a problem.

Posts from Exile should be positively encouraged.
Anything that improves the quantity and hopefully quality of in-game communication has to be a good thing (unless it's Gunboat!).

Re: rules for defeated nations
Since when did defeat equal death in WebDiplomacy ? What a ridiculous proposition. Unless it's a grubby gunboat game then surely a defeated player should be allowed to play sniper on the sidelines
