Re: Winning Socialism!
All parties other than the big two are minor in the US, so undoubtedly so. But they appear to have enough resources to put on a decent looking conference (technically somewhat better than a recent Theresa May showing that springs to mind). This isn't merely a group of people down the local pub who've decided to play politics.
But the fun thing is watching them try to live the newspeak leftie nonsense. The constant self policing and criticism of each other, with the way things are said counting for more than the ideas trying to be expressed. A nightmare vision of wokedom unleashed, tempered by the comforting realisation that there's not a chance in hell that people with these notions will ever achieve power.

Re: Winning Socialism!
What is the point of this thread?
45 seconds of some random socialist meeting and Octavious is convinced that socialism is a "nightmare"?
I could give you 45 seconds of Boris Johnson talking meaningless gibberish. He has the communication skills of the average 3 or 4 year old. Does that prove capitalism is losing?

Re: Winning Socialism!
Aww, bless.
No, my games have ended so I'm posting in politics less
I love the way you try to turn this into an attack on Boris. Very funny stuff. You can disagree with his policies all you like but he's generally acknowledged as one of the best communicators in modern politics. Still, I should never stand in the way of the left making numpties of themselves.
Speaking of which, thank you for bringing this thread back to the attention of forum users. It didn't get anywhere near the attention it deserved.

What?
Acknowledged by whom?
He's a terrible communicator! His communication style is 90% bluster, 10% information, at best.

Re: Winning Socialism!
Accepted by pretty much everyone?
Are you seriously suggesting that a Tory can be elected mayor of a city like London, twice, without being a talented communicator? Being anti Boris is fair enough, but you shouldn't let your political bias completely blind you to reality. At least not all the time...

Re: Winning Socialism!
At least this one gives him faint credit by accusing him of communicating badly on purpose:
https://inews.co.uk/opinion/boris-johns ... omy-428000
But I think I've made my point. The idea that absolutely everyone except Jamie T would agree that our wicked, capricious, devious, lying charlatan of a Prime Minister is a brilliant communicator is not as universal as Octavious seems to think.

Re: Winning Socialism!
An anti Boris article in the leftie mouthpiece that is the New Statesman, and the Guardian reader's page, is what passes for convincing evidence these days? Oh deary deary me.
Keep believing your propaganda, mate. With delusion comes defeat, and long may it continue

I assume you meant "most conservatives".
But we know you do not care about the truth. That's old news.

Re: Winning Socialism!
Nope, I mean pretty much everyone. The New Statesman is a pretty niche hard left publication, and a handful of Guardian readers are ultimately just a handful of Guardian readers. How many people buy these rags? 200,000? Fewer? Every one of them could blindly support you, and pretty much everyone is still left to think for themselves.

You're hilarious. You just make up the terms of the debate as you go along, to suit yourself.Octavious wrote: ↑Thu Aug 06, 2020 7:07 pmNope, I mean pretty much everyone. As for the New Statesman being a "hard left" publication, that's also hilarious. But I can see how it looks that way to a right wing die-hard like you.

Re: Winning Socialism!
A quote about the outlook of the New Statesman:
It was founded by Sidney and Beatrice Webb, who were members of the Fabian Society, the oldest and most famous left wing think tank in the country.
In the 90s the New Statesman acquired and subsumed the political magazine, Marxism Today. Now, I'll admit I've never actually read Marxism Today, but at a guess I'd say there's a good chance it had a little bit of a left wing feel.
But yeah, you'd have to be a raving right wing die hard to say that the New Statesman is a left wing publication
- Jason Cowley, editor of the New Statesman since 2008Of the left, for the left

Re: Winning Socialism!
I am curious. I am not sure I would agree that Boris is a bad speaker (Boris deliberately tries to give off the disheveled eccentric uncle sort of vibes)..but do you not even follow the links to see their argument? Or do you say "since their political alignment disagrees with my own, everything they print must be rubbish and I can dismiss without any consideration"?Octavious wrote: ↑Thu Aug 06, 2020 9:05 pmA quote about the outlook of the New Statesman:

Re: Winning Socialism!
What argument, Flash? That New Statesman article can be summed up by saying they didn't like a particular campaign speech. That's not an argument, just an opinion. That the campaign in question proved to be the most successful in recent British political history surely provides some evidence to suggest that this particular opinion doesn't carry much weight.
