Re: Coalition II: The Shifting Alliances
Phase 3: This rule will remain secret until the end of the phase. I will tell you that points will be rewarded to certain players for accomplishing a certain task this phase.
Coalitions available:
The “Not-A-Cult” Cultition: This coalition has a cult leader. When creating this coalition, the cult leader will do two things. FIRST, the cult leader must PM the GM ##Create Cult [x] points. After doing that, the player will post in the forum ##Create [type other than cult]. This means that it appears to other players that you are leading a different type of coalition, when in reality you have just made a cult. The rules for joining the cult will be the same as the rules for whichever type you are making your cult appear to be. The cult leader will gain 2n points, and all members of the cult will gain x points (which was determined, but not given, by the cult leader in the creation of the cult). X may be any integer between 0 and 5 (inclusive). If a player is a member of a cult gaining 0 to 2 points, they may Avenge the cult leader the following phase. This is done by publicly posting ##Avenge [player] the following phase. If you avenge a player, you pay back the points you earned from the cult, and the player you avenge loses 3 points.
The “Exclusive” Coalition: This coalition has a normal leader. Any player can request to join this type of coalition by publicly posting ##Join [leader]’s coalition. If the leader posts ##Allow [player], then that player joins the coalition. If the leader does not make a post allowing the player into the coalition, then that player will not be in a coalition that phase, and gains 0 points. The leader of this coalition gains 0 points. All other members who successfully joined the coalition gain 8 points.
The “Popular” Coalition: This coalition has a normal leader and anyone can join it. Each player in the largest popular coalition will gain 24/n points. Additionally, the leader of the largest popular coalition gains a bonus 2 points. Any popular coalition that is not the largest popular coalition gains 0 points. If two or more popular coalitions are tied in being the largest, each member of the coalitions is awarded 12/n points, and no leader bonuses are received.

Re: Coalition II: The Shifting Alliances
I have created a cult where anyone who joins gets 5 points.
##Create Exclusive
I repeat, this is a cult where you get 5 points. Join my cult and not someone else's.

Re: Coalition II: The Shifting Alliances
Also, Jamie, you're an idiot for joining the double gamble before being told to join.
Re: Coalition II: The Shifting Alliances
Um, I'll try not to miss the phase this time. Sorry guys. At least I didn't lose my position though... That round was quite something. Does anyone want to join an exclusive coalition with a 2 point entry fee? I promise it won't be a cult. If it was, everyone would hate me forever. You'll get 6 points, it's a better deal than Squigs'.
Re: Coalition II: The Shifting Alliances
##Allow Itshosuke
It's that easy guys. 5 points, no hassle.

Re: Coalition II: The Shifting Alliances
Would anybody be willing to join? It's a better deal than Squigs's. You'll get more points. Or I could make a popular coalition.
Re: Coalition II: The Shifting Alliances
I’ve joined Squigs. In hindsight, it’s a little too rushed, but I believe no one should break promises already at turn 3.
Do you plan to collect the fee outright or do the applicants pay you after you accept them
Re: Coalition II: The Shifting Alliances
If 4 people join my cult I'll gift each of them a point. That would mean everyone gets 6 points. Come join the great cult of Squigs!

Re: Coalition II: The Shifting Alliances
There's been some discussion in this forum about the different levels of thought in Dip, ie, level 1: that's the most reasonable move; level 2: my opponent expects me moving that way so i'll do something different; level 3: my opponent knows i'm doing something different so i'll do either the obvious move or something even more surprising, etc
So now, let's assume i'm Jamiet. Level 1: Why should i join damo's coalition when i can recruit two partners and create mine. Level 2: Better to join damo's one, so if i can't recruit two more, it's true that i will stick to zero but at least those three guys in damo's gang will be to zero too. Level 3: Since i publicly explained all this reasoning no one will volunteer to be the fifth or sixth one, cause they know they will leave 4 or 5 opponents to zero, and the 8 points of a Friendship will become a big deal.
Unfortunately, Jamiet stopped at level 2

##Create Popular
This is a Cult with x=3. I know that's a worse deal than what Squiqs is offering, but he's obviously not telling the truth. More importantly, I will balance our points afterwards (with a bias towards myself).
So if z players join me,
z=1 / You gain 3 points / I gain 2
z=2 / You gain 3 points / I gain 4
z=3 / You gain 3 points / I gain 5 / I randomly gift 1 point
z=4 / You gain 4 points / I gain 4
z=5 / You gain 4 points / I gain 5

Keep in mind that you'll need to PM Temasek to join. There's no public joining for mine.

Re: Coalition II: The Shifting Alliances
I wanted to see how Damo would react. His reaction was to flop around like a fish and do nothing useful.
Maybe you are an idiot for joining the coalition. Who can truly say. It is for the LORD to judge us once all this mortal frippery reaches an end.

That's two. 2 more and I gift a point to everyone involved.
Also I'm fairly sure Claesars is actually a popular coalition and he is trying to pull a fast one. I'm just disappointed i didn't think of it first

Re: Coalition II: The Shifting Alliances
If it is Popular I would want to join it more. But if someone else creates a Popular, then I won't know what to do.
