Oooh that could be fun. Beginning of each year you select a country and get bonus points if that country grows in SC count or something along those lines. Lots of possibilities

Yes, Squigs
We all understand you've been super busy with the bot thing, and that is fantastic indeed. And maybe even real life sometimes needs to be cared of :D

But you could just post here all submissions you received and we will compute the results without you spending more time on that. I already PM'ed you a similar suggestion a few days ago, but posting submissions here is probably the best solution

Alright. I finally caught a gap in my schedule due to 2 professors cancelling homework for me. It's only right that the riot game is the one where you guys rioted against me.

Successful Riots:
Liverpool, MAO, Holland, Ukraine, Ankara, Tyrrhenian

As I imagined, riots would either happen on the lowest risk reward options, or the highest for each country.
Liverpool won 6-3 against Norway
MAO won 8-1 against Marseilles
Holland won 8-1 against Ruhr
Ukraine won 6-3 against Finland
Ankara won 9-0 against Smyrna
Tyrrhenian won 5-3-1 against Naples then Tunis.

That means that teccles and tr1285 are the winners by virtue of being the only two to correctly select all 6 riots. They scored 13 points.

Temasek and BobMcBob were just 2 points behind them.
Doug7878 was 4 points behind the leaders.
gimix was 5 points behind.
Claesar and 90kicvesb were 6 points behind.
And Xorxes... thank you for playing (9 points behind, despite submitting early and not seeming to strategize with anyone).

I think it is fairly obvious, but I no longer have time to run these, and with Temasek running the coalition, I dont think this would have been able to continue on anyway. If anyone wants to pick this up after coalition is done, you have my permission.

Super interesting! I was afraid I was perhaps being too conservative, but it turns out I wasn't and the majority made smart choices. Well done.

Thanks for running these! Hopefully they can continue (soon).

Thanks Squigs, I thoroughly enjoyed these games. I'm also glad to see I got tied third. I do hope we can get more of these run by someone after the coalition game is over though.

Thanks Squigs for running these!

I had initially been planning to go maximally conservative, with one big bet; but both Ankara and Ukraine seemed to have plenty of momentum. I'm a little bit surprised at how well most these riots were coordinated.

Today i had some spare time, so i fumbled a little with the results of the 3 games we played.
Since the scores were not directly comparable i standardized them by calculating the T-scores - so it was easier to deal with missing submissions by simply assigning them a value of zero [T-score is just a Z-score shifted and scaled, so that the formula "(x - mean) / stdev" becomes "50 + (x - mean) / stdev * 10"]
That's what i got:

Code: Select all

Re: Game Theory Games

#78 Post by Squigs44 » Mon May 25, 2020 5:06 am

Dear webDippers,
I ran these diplomacy flavored game theory games almost a year ago and they turned out to be more popular than I thought they would. Unfortunately, school started back up for me and I ran out of time to host these. I am happy to announce that I have now graduated, and I have found more free time. If people are still interested in these, I would like to start them back up.

For the first edition of this reboot, I have both a game AND a diplomacy riddle. I will give the riddle first:
It is hypothetically possible for all of the following to occur in a normal diplomacy game:
-All Neutral SCs occupied at the end of 1901
-1 Country eliminated by the end of 1901
-1 Country enter all holds for all of 1901
-2 Countries end 1901 with all of their starting units capturing a neutral SC
In this hypothetical game where all of the above happens, there is one unit that remains in its home SC for 1901 outside of the country that enters all holds. Which unit is it?

If you think you know the answer, please do not post it here, but feel free to PM me with your thoughts/guesses. I will post the answer and detailed explanation in a week when the game is over and I post the new game (and possibly a new riddle if I think of one).

And here are the rules for the game:
With the events of 2020, sports have suffered quite a bit. As a result, video games have risen in popularity, especially E-sports. As a response to this, I am happy to announce that Squigs has created the first ever professional online diplomacy league. As with any league, my players are currently looking for sponsors. Each of you will act as the sponsors for my league. As with any game, players are of varying skill. Your goal is to spend your money to acquire the most skill that you can. Each of you has $100 that you can spend in $1 increments on each of the 7 gamers. You can split your $100 however you would like among the 7 gamers. Let me introduce you to the players in my league:
Alex - Skill 1
Bridget - Skill 2
Carl - Skill 4
Diana - Skill 5
Eddy - Skill 7
Fiona - Skill 8
Gary - Skill 10

To determine the winner of this game, I will pit every webdipper that enters against each other webdipper. In each of these 1v1 matchups, the league e-gamers will play for whichever of the two webdippers spent the most money on them. Whoever has the most total skill among their players will win that 1v1 matchup. Whoever has the most matchup wins will be declared this week's winner.
Tiebreakers: If two webdippers spend the same amount of money on a player, that player will not play for either webdipper. If this causes a tie in the 1v1 matchup, neither player gets the matchup win.

To enter into this week's game, PM me with how much money you would like to spend on each player. I will be accepting entries until Saturday May 30th at 11:59 PM Eastern Time.

Surprisingly I have had more people submit answers to the riddle than entries to the game so far. I'm guessing most people are still formulating their strategies for the game, but it looks like I should continue with the riddles each week in addition to the games. I'm currently formulating next week's riddle, and I think next week's might be a bit more difficult if I can figure out how to set it up correctly.
