webDip makes international news: Science!!!
Hi y'all,
I have the pleasure of announcing that webDip has made international news. The Meta team has been working with us to create an AI that can play press games. Their research has been published in the prestigious Science magazine/journal:
https://www.science.org/doi/10.1126/science.ade9097
Cicero has played 40 press games here at webDip and has played very well. Players could not basically tell that they were playing against an AI. Well, our Skynet overlord is here but at least it is here first at webDip!!!!
Here is a more general description of it:

Congrats to the Meta team and our site.

Re: webDip makes international news: Science!!!
However, Cicero is still not as good as our own AI, jmo. So there is nothing to worry about.

The only person you're truly competing against, Wesley, is yourself.

Will Cicero become a bot you are able to play against here?

Congrats to the Meta AI team for the achievement.
I was suspicious when playing against it. The bot always wrote complete sentences to me, including correct punctuation and capitalization.

Sheesh, I guess that I'm an AI too! Maybe something else tipped you off too?MerryBBuck wrote: ↑Tue Nov 22, 2022 5:19 pmCongrats to the Meta AI team for the achievement.

It’s franz_broseph and SchmendrickTheMagician
You can tell because the GitHub uses the Game IDs and country.

So if you played in any of those games, your conversations with the bots are now public

Correction: Meta only published the conversations for which they got consent to do so.
Re: webDip makes international news: Science!!!
That's crazy that we finally have an AI that can chat. Curious if I've played with it any time
Re: webDip makes international news: Science!!!
This is awesome, congratulations Meta team, and WebDip as well.
I played in one of the blitz press games and I had no idea. By the way, FWIW, I happen to be a scientist and the Science journal is among the very top ranked ones.

Congrats to the Meta team! it's not just the Zuckerverse they do some very cool stuff too. Look forward to reading and digesting this properly
I asked whether we'd be able to get it running permanently and was told the AI needed 56 GPUs to run.. so it'll be a while before you can play against a full press AI on play.webdiplomacy.net (hopefully not too long though.. I really want that functionality)

I forgot about Tettleton's Chew, ha ha. Almost fits! 41 games to Cicero's 40.

In other news, doing some digging to try and see if I ever interacted with Tettleton's Chew let me know that Maniac invited me to a game nine years ago:

I had no idea I was playing a bot in the 6 games I played against it! Very impressive communication.
Yes, it always replied with good grammar and interpunction. I typically do as well, and several others players do too. It didn't strike me as a tell.
