Openings for new moderators!!!!
Openings for new moderators!!!!
The mod team is happy to announce that we have openings for new moderators. We would like to have 5-10 new mods as some of the veteran mods and admins have become very busy and we could use the help. We need help on technical and non-technical issues, so if you can dedicate some time to help support the site and other users, please email us at [email protected]. As we are able, we will also provide more details on specific jobs/duties later on.
Sincerely,
zultar

Re: Openings for new moderators!!!!
I'm not familiar with the recruitment drive, but I have offered to chip in and see if I can help with the backlog. Also we're trialing a new helpdesk system that uses the e-mail [email protected] , with tickets then going to https://help.webdiplomacy.net .
This could help make certain requests easier, they have a similar but more bare-bones mod request pool on vDip which they say helps.
It could have templated responses, shortcuts to admin actions, user accounts, etc, as well as recognizing the mods that are contributing the most, and seeing what categories of requests are the most problematic.

I have mailed my request several times... No answer (positive/negative).

I emailed the one time, got a reply from K that was sent to everyone that applied, and...

Re: Openings for new moderators!!!!
I asked twice, got an affirmation that it would happen, and then no response. I gave up. But you know, perhaps not all of us, including perhaps myself, are fit to be a moderator. Maybe that is the problem.

Training? You hold the banhammer by the stick and hit the members with the heavy end.

Then why did Zultar create this thread?jmo1121109 wrote: ↑Thu Jul 07, 2022 6:05 pmUnfortunately we don't have anyone available to train new moderators at this time.
The only person you're truly competing against, Wesley, is yourself.
Re: Openings for new moderators!!!!
Yep we have got some submissions from people willing to be mods who would make great mods; thanks to those who applied and sorry to all it's taking so long.
From my POV the blocker is that I'm not sure if we want to move to using a new helpdesk https://help.webdiplomacy.net [email protected] , or keep using the current inbox based system which needs people to really cooperate and understand how to use it properly. Both have pros and cons.
Also the biggest time sink for mods is cheating accusations and investigations, and it's also the area that has the biggest potential for abuse / mistakes that can cause a lot of damage if not done with a lot of patience and consideration.
I was hoping to get the suspicion reporting/relation declaring system going, plus the social media linking, and various other bits and pieces behind the scenes going, to try and make things more self-moderating and need less investigation in this regard, but it has taken longer than expected.
Finally after using the new UI against the bots I really wanted to get play.webdiplomacy.net going, and I wanted to resolve some behind the scenes performance issues that was causing deadlocks.
So yep I do understand the frustration. I think it'll take 3-4 dev cycles / months before we're back in our stride, but we'll get there
