Famous largely for being a politician, writer, visual artist, athlete, or musical artist?
This question has tripped me up in past games as a guesser and so I’d like to ask a clarification of you here that I will apply to subsequent similar questions this game (unless a questioner specifies differently). This clarification is made without reference to whether it would impact the answer to this question, future ones, or if I’m simply being annoying.

Is this question asking whether what I deem to be their #1 source of fame is on the list, or whether they are widely known for one or more of the things on the list?

Using an astronaut as an example, if needed - I wouldn’t say John Glenn’s #1 source of fame is being a politician, but he is still quite well known for being a senator for 20+ years. Would he be a yes or no to your question?
Great example.

I did not ask this question, and will leave it to the questioner to clarify, but I would say that in the example of John Glenn, he is *not* "Famous, largely" for his involvement in politics, so it would be a "no", for me.

It's the use of the word "largely" that makes this slightly problematic. If the question was "is he known for politics?" then John Glenn becomes a "yes" because a lot of people *know* he held elected office.
I agree that this is a good question and good example.

For me, I think that the key question to ask in the John Glenn case is: would he have been an appropriate (if somewhat boring) 20 Questions pick *without* his astronautical activities? He served in the Senate for 24 years and ran for president in 1984. Compare Glenn's political career to, say, Gary Hart (who also ran for president in 1984). Do you think that Gary Hart would be too obscure of a pick

Yes this person is or has been involved in one or more of those fields.

Subject to the caveat that I think the only way to answer this question fairly is to take a broad interpretation of these terms.

I said "largely famous", so John Glenn would be a yes. I would say that even for someone like Michelle Kwan, "largely famous for being a diplomat" would be a yes.

Thank you for the response and additional example.

Yes, this person is largely famous for being a politician, writer, visual artist, athlete, or musical artist.

I should probably stop using "largely famous" since it appears there is no agreement on what it means.

Was this person born in the United States?

Does this individual have any works that are currently on display in a museum and/or have they designed a building in a major city (let's say 1 million+ population)?

Assuming you mean works they created, the answer is no, or at least I am not aware of any.

1, 2, 3, 6, 11. Real Human Born after 1900 CE in Europe
3, 12. Native speaker of an Indo-European language, but not a Romance language.
4. Male
5. A white person taller than 4' 11"
7. Living
8. Has won what is widely considered to be the most prestigious award/prize/etc. in an activity/field/niche/etc.

10. Largely famous for being a politician, writer, visual artist, athlete, or musical artist ("largely famous" as defined in this thread).
13. QM is not aware of this person having created any works that are currently on display in a museum or this person having designed a building in a major city.

Interpreting primarily to mean the foremost singular reason for their fame, the most reasonable answer in my opinion is no.

Geven the qualifications in this answer, I would scratch the Nobel Prize question.

I don’t know if I’d characterize it as “major,” but they have won what is widely considered to be the most prestigious award/prize/etc. in their activity/field/niche/etc.
