Re: Feature Requests: Enhancements for Live Press Games
Hey Claesar, When I played live games they were 15 minute diplomacy phases with 5 minutes for builds/retreats. Yup, you are right - game are longer - they took about 4-5 hours. I very much suspect that I'm in the minority regarding my interest for longer phased diplomacy periods in live games (i.e. ...

Re: Feature Requests: Enhancements for Live Press Games
Thanks for the detailed response and considering the suggestions. I'm glad to hear some thought is going into 2) and 3). With regard to 1), I was thinking of live games with more meaningful diplomacy phases such as 12-15 minutes, where clearly that amount of time is not needed for retreats and build...

Feature Requests: Enhancements for Live Press Games
I very much appreciate all of the great work that has gone/is going into this website – moderators, programmers, developers, administrators… a big thank you! :) In response to some recent posts from individuals that would like to see increased uptake in live press games, I suggested a few website im...

Re: The Live League
jmo1121109 , could you please provide some feedback/commentary on the below. I appreciate your idea of having a survey for live games - I do wish there were more options in the survey to understand what people want. I actually prefer Saturday and Sunday mornings. I also would prefer a game with bet...

Re: What happened to live games
I enjoy live games, but there are two things off the top of my head that would be improvements and would make me more inclined to play in them: 1) Boot out players as quickly as possible in live games when there are NMRs as to not hold up the game for people that are actually playing (I'm not sure h...

Re: Diplomacy Etiquette – the Stab!!!
Oh, all of you sociopaths, who will do ANYTHING to advance your games... holding hands together and singing Kumbaya! ;) Sadly for me, there are a few mirrors in my house. Where a gain is immaterial I very typically side on taking the high road. I question the judgement of players who will stab someb...

Diplomacy Etiquette – the Stab!!!
I came across the following statement on a forum which inspired this topic: “Call it a weakness, but I don't stab my first, best ally, and even the associates get a fair warning. Maybe silly, but I sleep at night and look in the mirror without wincing. People who pass off stabbing by saying, "It's o...

Re: How would you improve the website?
Here is one that I'd find interesting - statistics! It's likely not that tough to add in statistics for various countries regarding solos, draws and losses for each map. Much more complex but much more juicy... robust/detailed statistics with filters so that I player can analyze, for example, openin...

Re: How would you improve the website?
Regarding developing the website into an app, I do wonder if it would provide for additional options such as sending notifications when messages come in and when turns end (regarding the latter, in live games I find myself constantly refreshing to ensure that the turn hasn't ended early because ever...

Re: Is it still Diplomacy if there is no press?
Good discussion! Sounds like a 3-way draw has developed (perhaps 2-way - I didn't contribute much). :P It's a bit off topic but kind of similar - the Classic 1 vs 1 variants that are available on this website. Even though they reside on the webDiplomay website, they are not Diplomacy (i.e. they have...

Re: How would you improve the website?
Phase Lengths! One that comes to my mind: permitting different Phase Lengths - one phase time for the spring and fall moves/diplomacy period, and one phase time for retreats and builds. I like having live games with rulebook messaging… but the time requirements for having meaningful diplomacy/messag...

How would you improve the website?
I'm a relatively new person to Diplomacy and the website. I'd like to thank all of those involved in the development and maintenance of this site - it's very well done! That said, I'd love to hear other people's ideas on how the website could be improved.

Re: Is it still Diplomacy if there is no press?
You can play tiddlywinks on a chessboard, but it doesn't make it chess. Gunboat is not diplomacy. Thank you Octavius! I agree 100% with ALL of your comments. I'm not in anyway saying that gunboat isn't fun (for some), or challenging, or requiring skill... but it's not Diplomacy. And yes, I do ackno...

Is it still Diplomacy if there is no press?
I've noticed that a lot of games played on this website are set to not permit messaging - and play he game more as a pure war game. Isn't communication, negotiations, relationship-building, and so forth the essence of Diplomacy? Removing the press fundamentally changes the game. It is in fact called...
