Re: 1v1 practice

One examples of France mis-convoying (and I’m sure I’ve seen others and probably did it myself but hard to search for it)

Re: 1v1 practice

If France convoys to Scandinavia when you’re NOT going to STP, that means he’s basically abandoning Munich and Berlin to you (and MAYBE you get past there into Ruhr/Kiel/etc which is nearly gg). And it’s not super hard to expel a single French army from Moscow/Warsaw area in 1904 or so; it’s a super...

Re: 1v1 practice

Given the fall 1901 position, as France i think the generically optimal approach is Build A Mar Build A Paris Spring 1902: one of a few approaches 1) Bur-Ruhr, Par-Bur, Mar-Pie, Bel-Hol, Lon-NTH If Mar-Pie bounces, then you can go Mar-Spa for the +1 there, and the extra +1 allows you to convoy Hol-N...

Re: 1v1 practice

Spring 1902 - if you’re gonna abandon pie you might as well go whole hog and run bur-mun as that becomes a STRONG force in Munich if you can take it there.

Re: 1v1 practice

MAO is helpful in a few ways 1) Keeping Germany out of Portugal/Spain/Marseilles - without those centers, he needs to get into the Balkans, but with those centers, he's just gonna beat you almost always. 2) Breakthrough potential / turning 17 into 18. It's pretty easy to end a game on a draw along t...

Re: 1v1 practice

I think it's a bit of both, but I think the lost coin flip whereby Germany gets into Tyrolia is probably not quite as bad as the one you ended up with I think you're also in much better shape if you build a rome army instead of a rome fleet, particularly since Germany vacated MAO by taking Holland w...

Re: 1v1 practice

Germany opening to Bohemia essentially gives away his overall positioning advantage in favor of a coin flip where if he wins he's in strong (but not quite crushing) position, and if he loses he's in trouble (if Italy gets Vienna to stay at 2-2, it's a big positioning advantage long term, if Italy ge...

Re: Let's Fix Russia's Gunboat Woes

Probably the best way to fix russia’s gunboat woes is for England to fight France early, or for Germany to auto let Russia into Sweden anytime ENG is vacated (since E/F is super bad for them both). Russia still stays a weak power but that drastically cuts down on how doomed it is.

Please post links when the first flight starts up (unless it auto-populates in the tournaments dropdown). Should be fun to watch!

Re: Development for Tournaments

btw is it possible to have the tournaments dropdown show winner (or "winners" if there's a LOT of space to be had) under the list of each round? There might be some space to be had by cutting down "process time" to just showing day instead of full timestamp...

Re: Tier List for Gunboat Diplomacy

While I agree that Russia is not complete trash, it really should be in tier of it's own. Call it D-tier if you like. Everything else makes sense. I think Russia is borderline F-tier in a really high level game, but I'd also tend to think that Russia is pretty adequate in lower level games where I/...

Re: When in Doubt... Build Fleets?

France is a much more natural naval than land power, I'd tend to agree with that. Its largest rival, England, is also a naval power, so it MUST have boats to defeat England. It is virtually impossible for France to conquer Germany without getting into North Sea, so there too it must have boats. It i...

Re: Bilateral Games (Germany vs Italy & France vs Austria)

Austria (Germany) are advantaged vs France (Italy). Austria and Germany have some "rushes" strategies that afford them to win in making a "touchdown" at 18 centers whereas they would clearly lose this advantage a few turns later. An easy solution could be to set the victory conditions at 20. More i...

You scored those in only 3 games instead of 5. Relatively, you scored 1108.3 points and 1st place.

Re: E/R?

In gunboat, if England goes all out against France and just sort of forgets about Norway for a while, then it's doable to have Russia stop at Norway and take it with an army and both players focus on other issues instead of each other. Even in an early game E/R alliance, there's still a long term is...
