Re: God is dead

Do not underestimate religion. Aristotle wrote that there was never a people without a religion and history do confirm that there was never a civilization without a religion and a god. Also what we have as moral guidance is because of religion. Religion came first, is part of human life since the ca...

Re: Reliability Rating

Well, there is one thing you can do, play many live 1v1 games, they are short but have many turns, so you will add quickly many turns to your statistics to help give you a better rating.

Re: I'm writing a Play

In which time you set the story? Hittites and Assyrians were around for centuries. After 1200 BC (approximately) Canaan fell to the people of Israel coming out of Egypt, earlier was a constant point of argument between the great powers of the region. I would recommend using the general term East ins...

Wait, my name exposes my name, does that mean I can change my name?
It certainly exposes your country of origin my friend.

Re: Anonymous Changes and Online Indicators

The last seen indication had a use, in my opinion always, to know when someone had seen a message or not. Someone can tell that this is useless in a game of lies and deception, but it kept some things in a line.

Re: /hg/ History General: A running thread for discussion of the past

Herodotus's last two books are covering the Persian War, though he is not so detailed and to the point as Thucydides, he's a very good source on this events. The first seven books of his history speak about the history of Egypt and Persia and some other stories prior to the war.

Re: /hg/ History General: A running thread for discussion of the past

Your answer caught my eye, being a Greek. More people are interested solemnly in the Golden Age between the end of the Persian Wars and the Peloponnesian War.
I trust you have read the classics on these themes? Herodotus, Thucydides?

Re: /hg/ History General: A running thread for discussion of the past

PE Any interest in pre-WWI naval history? By pre-WWI you mean the late 19th century or more back in time, Napoleonic Era i.e? My personal interests are in Roman history (particularly the fall of the republic) and also Ancient Greek. I also enjoy English (from 1066 onward) and American history. All ...

Re: /hg/ History General: A running thread for discussion of the past

I am interested in history from the pre-historical era to modern history but my preference is medieval history both east and west Europe and the Middle East and North Africa. Because of my interest in history, I was annoyed in the early 90s notion of the End of History (for those too young to rememb...

Fluminator, you are overlooking the human soul, many people are socially awkward and feel more comfortable being on the side, away from public attention even if it isn't judgemental.

Re: War hawk

To call a leader war hawk is an oversimplification in my opinion. As an ancient writer said, empires are not maintained with timidity. To lead on of the two great powers of the world means you need to take arms against an enemy, no reasonable leader will go immediately to war but a policy of avoidin...

Re: War hawk

There are two separate things when someone purges a people. Ethnic cleansing when you move out people so the country will be left with it's native or prefered nationalities. Genocide is when you kill a people with the sole purpose to wipe them out of the face of the world. In practice is difficult t...

A lot easier from a moderation point of view, perhaps. Much like it is far easier policing a city when it's raining.

Wrong, wrong, wrong. The earth is not flat, OR on the back of an insect or elephant, because it is not real. Which is also why global warming, cooling, or 'average-temperature' is not real. Because the 'global' part is not real. Playdip does not exist either. I am about to reveal the only thing tha...
