3 of our 4 members are pretty much on the Great Lakes too. Maybe that's the source of our success. Just drinking the effluent from your Diplomacy incubators.

And the fourth member of Eastern Canada (me) lives on the Gulf of St Lawrence, so the effluent passes down through here eventually too.

I don't blame Goldmember for the original rules. The frustration is with the players in the games.

Yet somehow the Full Press and Public Press players managed to end their games a month ago without anyone's real life falling apart. Also, I'm not sure why anyone is in a hurry. These games started January 12.

IMO there is no reason for gunboat games to take 36 hours per phase. There is no press to send or receive. Its pure gamesmanship by a team or teams who want the other group to finish first so they can know what result they need in their game. This has to be addressed by the TD.

It's better for the teams in one group if the games in the other group finishes first. The World Cup (the real FIFA one) solved this by having all of the final round games start at the same time, and proceed at the same pace, so no one could get an advantage by delay. The difficulty with Diplomacy ...

PS: That's not a criticism of the organizers. I love the tournament. Just hate how the gunboat players are playing it at the moment. Move or Draw, just do something.

I ask because I suspect that I am the oldest in most of my games (I am 56). Tabletop Diplomacy was big in my university years (the 80s and 90s). Has the game been passed down to younger players, or is it still a Generation X type of game?
