He was an employee with access to the area. Besides until 9/11 the airline industry fought any major upgrade in security to cut their costs.

So I can’t carry on 110ml of water I case I blow up a plane, but they don’t have some thumb print tech to stop anyone stealing a plane.

Stolen passenger plane from Seattle-Tacoma International crashed outside of Seattle on the Puget Sound, apparently a suicide. Followed by F15s.
