1866 nothing interesting? I feel strongly encouraged to fill this lack of knowledge.
1866 was year of the battle Königgrätz, a decisive win of the Prussian army over the Austrian army, that shifting the power in Germany from the more diplomatic Austrians to the warmongering Prussians and thus had global long run consequences. This resulted in the „lesser German solution“ with Austria leaving the German Empire forming Austro-Hungarian Empire in the Austro-Hungarian Compromise of 1867

1874- the Austro-Hungarian North Pole expedition give up the Admiral Tegetthoff, which got stuck in the ice southeast of Franz Josef Land. Taking boats on sledges with them, they walked south on the ice for several weeks. When they could see the ship again as the north drift had carried them back, parts of the crew wanted to return to the ship and die there. However, as later painted by Julius Payer, head of the expedition, the captain Carl Weyprecht, took stand in front of the demoralized crew with the bible in the hand, proclaiming never go back. So they tried once more and indeed reached the open sea, where they were found by Russian whalers. After though negotiations, in return for the three boats, two guns and 1200 rubles they where shipped to Norway.

1878 Treaty of St. Stephen: After (another) war between Russia and the Ottomans, the latter had to cede Rumania's independence and also recognise Bulgaria as a state with enlarged borders reaching the Aegean Sea. The Berlin Council of 1881 curtailed these borders, cutting Bulgaria from the Sea. The decisions of these two agreements were the seeds from which the Balkan Wars came.

The 1879 FA Cup final was contested by Old Etonians and Clapham Rovers at the Kennington Oval in London. Old Etonians won by 1–0, the only goal scored by Charles Clerke.

1880: On 28 June Victorian police captured bushranger Ned Kelly after a siege at the Glenrowan Inn. The other members of the Kelly Gang — Dan Kelly, Joseph Byrne and Steve Hart — were killed in the siege. The gang was wanted for the murders of three police officers at Stringybark Creek in 1878.
