It's more a problem of gunboat being dominated by luck than a problem with points, surely?

The problem with points is that you can bet as many as you want and it still serves no real gauge unless you pass ~100 of the quality of the game. That's what GR fills in and that's why most of us use it.

@Octavius: Granted that a gunboat game is luck based.

However, let's assume a hypothetical scenario. 7 noobs play a WTA Classic and bet 100 each. One of them wins , not because he's any better, but because he got lucky. The result is still that his percentage ranking shot up very quickly, but that rank does not correlate to his actual skill.

@bosox: agreed on GR. It's only now that I gain any real appreciation for that ranking. When I just started, I didn't see what the point was.

the only problem with points is inflation. people who have played more games have more points. but besides that it is no worse than this gr.

yes gunboat games count towards your points, all games do. that is the point. you dont want a game to count, then dont join a game with a high wager that you could lose.

A new player with 100 could play the top six players on the site seven times and solo all seven. If the entry were only 5 , he would win 30 per game, or 210 , putting him at a total of 310 .

Another new player with 100 could play one game against horrible competition, ending with a two-way draw (including him). If the entry were 100 , he would end with 350 .

Under the points system, the second player would be "ranked" higher than the first by virtue of having more points (350 vs. 310 ). Most people would consider the first player to have accomplished more.

Under the GR system, the first player would have a meteoric rise up the ranks, while the second player's gain would be negligible.

It's not necessarily true that people who have played more games have more points. It depends on how many points are at stake in the games, and what the results were.

Better yet, a new player could have 100 and play his six other accounts and end up with 700 . He could do it again and end up with 1300 . One more time and he'd be ranked higher than I am. GR takes game quality - i.e how good are the people you played - into account.

every game should count. you cant say it is more likely that the beginners are the multis. the only issue is that you have an unlimited amount of potential new players so it would be hard to keep the points from inflating.

Well-they call it something different, and here is a bit of a difference.... But overall it serves the same purpose of GR.
No pressure to the actual Devs working on this, just thought I'd point it out.

If the mods were to reveal the statistics, I can say with high confidence that you could say so. However, I will alter my point slightly and say that it is the shitty players that are multis, not the new ones. However, new ones fall under that category more often than old.
