A player gets marked as "left" if they go into Civil Disorder, meaning they do not enter any moves at all for 2 consecutive turns.

1 -- No, that player cannot give orders.

2 -- Yes, a replacement player can pay points to take over that country. The points are based on how strong the country is and what the starting buy-in was.

3 -- Simply do not enter any moves for any of your units for two turns consecutively.

He can if he comes back to that game, the left sign would go away though

3° - Miss two consecutive turns and you leave the game.

1° - The units of your (previous) country hold and disband if forced to retreat. You cannot give orders, since you left :)

2° - If you re-enter the game (just by opening your game page) you will automatically take your units' command.
However, any player willing to substitute you can take your country's command while you are away, and in that case you definitively lose your place in the game.

sigh, beat to it, one extra note, near the end of a game when you are losing with only 1 center or so missing only 1 turn can result in a left.

I was asking because I have noticed in a game that a player marked "Left" has just ordered to disband such and such units (during the builds phase) and is still marked "Left".
How is that possible ?

He didnt order them. The system automatically disbands units based on a few things like how close it is to your home supply centers and stuff like that.

Yes, I know. The rules say :

"It's done as the DATC recommends: It's the furthest from your home supply centers. Distance is defined as the smallest number of moves to get from the unit's position to a home supply center. When calculating the smallest number of moves armies can move across seas, but fleets can only move across seas and coasts. If there are two units both the same distance from a home supply center the territory which is first alphabetically is removed first."

However, one of the destroyed units was in a home supply center while one unit left was 3 space away from the nearest home supply center !

Since it involves something which happened automatically after a player had CDd, surely Retillion has a right to ask.

Yeah I think in this case is okay, but my personal rule is to never do it, just to be safe. I think this case is okay though.

It is none of my business if that player has ordered some action (after all it is right) but I was just wondering why he was then marked as "Left".

My understanding is that when a variant is first loaded, it generates a list for each country of the order of auto-disbands. I know that at one point those lists were messed up, but I thought they had been fixed. I suggest posting this on the bug forum on the dev boards (forum.webdiplomacy.net).

Sorry about that Retillion, I forgot you couldnt post about ongoing games. Anyway, as alderian said, I think it is a bug.
