Trying to get a passworded game going to avoid all the CDs and NMRs that have plagued my games the past couple weeks. Unfortunately, some people dropped out. Still need 2 more. 12 hour phases, 50 buy-in, anonymous. PM me if you're interested and I'll shoot you the password. Game starts in 4 hours.

so another game ruined by a 4sc country going CD. The really annoying thing was that all countries agreed a draw except Turkey (who stood to gain).

As Russia I manouvered to attack Turkey so that we could force the draw only to find that Germany had sided with Turkey.

If a game is completely ruined by a CD, why can the game not just be drawn? Why do people have to seek to gain advantage by mopping up undefended centres. It is a complete waste of hours of time.
Austria got munch, Italy left the board the moment things got rough, as did England, and Russia and Germany went to war just in time to keep me alive. Typical FGT, really.

Why cant players like the Italian who has ruined 28% of the games he has played in, be permanantly barred from playing on this site?
NoFog (9073 D)
23 Jul 12 UTC
That game was bullshit. But we should have cancel it...
Larfinboy (0 DX)
23 Jul 12 UTC
No one ever cancels with 1 player eliminated and another in CD! You knew that! You just hit Cancel because you didn't want to end the game! You knew no one else would vote cancel. Players like you who take advantage of players going CD are just as bad as the player who ruined the game!
NoFog (9073 D)
23 Jul 12 UTC
Look at the map: I didn't take any territory of the CD...
Larfinboy (0 DX)
23 Jul 12 UTC
You mean except Naples and Rome?!! It does not matter anyhow, the game is totally unbalanced with a large power in CD. You had no-one to watchout for and knew that you could attack me without fear of another power attacking you. That is totally unbalanced when other countries still have neighbours to look out for.

You make me want to quit playing live games!
NoFog (9073 D)
23 Jul 12 UTC
btw "cancel" is a legal vote: I already cancelled a game today - and that was in 1905!

you should respect other persons who care about their ranking - thats one reason the cancel-button is made for
NoFog (9073 D)
23 Jul 12 UTC
naples, rome and tunis were english...
Larfinboy (0 DX)
23 Jul 12 UTC
but when no one else was willing to cancel, why did you not vote draw? It would not hurt your GR to have a 5 way draw!
NoFog (9073 D)
23 Jul 12 UTC
what do you have against a cancel?
Larfinboy (0 DX)
23 Jul 12 UTC
Most player refuse to cancel when 2 players are gone because they get a share of the eliminated players points and also make them pay for CD ing. I personally don't like wasting an hour and a half of my time for no result (cancel) Most players on this site seem to agree as games are rarely cancelled with 2 players out unless in the early stages. by 1905 people have invested time in the game and want some sort of reward for their time if the game has to end. You know this and have chosen to ignore it for personal gain.
NoFog (9073 D)
23 Jul 12 UTC
that's your personal view
Larfinboy (0 DX)
23 Jul 12 UTC
NO! It seems to be the view of most of the players on this site. None of the players in this game saw it your way! they all voted Draw and not cancel.
NoFog (9073 D)
23 Jul 12 UTC
Larfinboy you can't talk for everyone...
Larfinboy (0 DX)
23 Jul 12 UTC
Maybe not, but I know that most decent players would not choose to continue an unbalanced game, when the rest of the players in the game have set Draw. It is a point of manners and respect for other players. You clearly have neither!

The real problem here apart from your bad manners is the person who spoilt the game in the first place. He has dropped out of 28% of his 94 games. see other thread.
NoFog (9073 D)
23 Jul 12 UTC
My "bad manner"? Maybe you should reflect your own behaviour firstly. Accusing others is easy... Who gave you the right to force me into a draw, I don't want? Maybe you just can't loose...
Draw is somthing everyone still surviving has to agree in. It isn't democracy...
Btw as I said, I already cancelled a game today, in the 1905. To point it out: in a leading position. So you can believe: I cancel games.
cancel is ALWAYS preferable in a ruined game...

why should you gain for not achieving any kind of a victory, just by having others show up?

I am not sure who you refer to as "most" as most players I know on this site would vote cancel. "You know this and have chosen to ignore it for personal gain."

My opinion.
seth24c (5659 D)
23 Jul 12 UTC
@ NoFog-i was watching the game and for what it's worth my opinion is that you were using the cancel as an obvious way to continue a game that should have been drawn because of a cd. also most of your arguement is useless because you did draw once it was obvious you couldn't gain anything else by continuing the game.- my two cents. but i would have voted draw/cancel
NoFog (9073 D)
23 Jul 12 UTC
@ seth - tell me what options are left, if no one of the others have the character to cancel - should I resign to avoid a draw? so most of your argument is useless ;-)
Fortress Door (1837 D)
23 Jul 12 UTC
explain why you hit draw once it was clear you wouldn't gain anything?
NoFog (9073 D)
23 Jul 12 UTC
sure, I can explain it for you :-)
I voted for cancel. If there is neither an agreement for a draw nor an agreement for a cancel the game will played out. We played it out, so...
Nobody would cancel what choice did he have?
NoFog (9073 D)
23 Jul 12 UTC
So they forced me in a legal 3-way-draw. That's ok. To force me to draw a ruined game instead of cancelling, because they just want it, is not ok.
Larfinboy (0 DX)
23 Jul 12 UTC
You played in an unbalanced game until you no longer had an advantage over the other players. You had no western front and were protected by occupied Italian centres. You had nothing to lose by focusing solely on Russia as your west was covered. France and England were fighing and you knew they could not go for the Italian centres with more than an odd unit.
Larfinboy (0 DX)
23 Jul 12 UTC
@ Lando his choice was to take advantage rather than to draw. he waited till all had set Draw and then 2 seasons later he set cancel.
@larfinboy - please vote cancel next time there are CDs in games. You will avoid this problem and your current frustrations.
But why would he draw a game? Nobody deserved a draw.Nobody had earned it. It wasn;'t until the end when the game got to a draw position. That is the only time I would have drawn this game.

it is asking a lot to have people draw a game they have put so much time into. Why force them to waste that work and rewward people who were perhaps playing worse, would have been eliminated without the CDs. Cancel is the ONLY fair vote.
Larfinboy (0 DX)
23 Jul 12 UTC
The fact is that the game changed completely the moment Italy CD. Everyone set draw except Turkey. He waited 2 more seasons to gain some advantage and make sure Germany had attacked a strong Russia before setting cancel. If he had set cancel at the same time as everyone set draw in spring 05 then maybe I would be less angry but he did not.
seth24c (5659 D)
23 Jul 12 UTC
so what you are saying is that i can vote cancel even if i will clearly solo because of a resign and it's ok because even though everyone else voted draw i wanted a cancel? it doesn't matter either way to me, if there is a cd i almost always put up draw/cancel and let everyone else decide which to choose, all that matters is that a game that has been ruined by a cd is ended. and in this case all but one payer had draw up and so he should have drawn he didn't earn the three way draw it was given to him by a cd.
If I will win the game due to a CD why should I be stuck with a big draw on my record? Cancel remains the only fair thing to do.

You said it - the game was ruined by a CD. So a ruined game should have no place effecting the statistics and records that this site does such a good job of tracking.
Larfinboy (0 DX)
23 Jul 12 UTC
Thankyou Seth. At least someone has some decency.
Larfinboy (0 DX)
23 Jul 12 UTC
@ Lando but he did accept a draw 5 years later! His morals on Cancel obviously changed with the extra centres he gained!
NoFog (9073 D)
23 Jul 12 UTC
@ Larfinboy: I set cancel as soon as I realized Italy wouldn't come back.
You didn't vote Cancel. Maybe you should ask yourself first? You obviously wanted to profit from a draw, otherwise you would have voted for a cancel (also). Stop being a bad looser...
His morals didn;t change. Everyone refused to cancel a broken game, everyone acted like children except nofog. So, his wishes for the game to end were not coming to fruition what choice did he have other than to keep playing? The majority CHOSE to not end that game by refusing to vote to end it. These people chose to play the game to its end and nofog had no choice but to reciprocate.
Larfinboy (0 DX)
23 Jul 12 UTC
The pure fact that this game will be counted in the stats prooves that something is badly wrong.
See my message above, and blame yourself for having it count.

All I ask is next time this happens do the right thing and vote cancel.
Larfinboy (0 DX)
23 Jul 12 UTC
The majority did choose to end the game. We all set draw. He was the one who did not agree with the majority! Since when has 1 been a majority?
You all voted to play the game to its conclusion - a draw.
NoFog (9073 D)
23 Jul 12 UTC
@ Larfinboy, as already said, but just for you again ;-)
"I voted for cancel. If there is neither an agreement for a draw nor an agreement for a cancel the game will played out. We played it out, so... "
"So they forced me in a legal 3-way-draw. That's ok. To force me to draw a ruined game instead of cancelling, because they just want it, is not ok. "
Larfinboy (0 DX)
23 Jul 12 UTC
@Nofog I am not a bad loser at all. I however do think that the game was unbalanced. I had to focus on Germany and Turkey whilst you only had to focus on one power. That is a no brainer who is going to profit. As soon as you set cancel it was obvious what was going to happen and as angry as I was, I did not CD. I played to a ridiculous end just to see what you would do.
NoFog (9073 D)
23 Jul 12 UTC
Have you ever heard of the term "Logic"? Doesn't seem so.
At first, you denyed a Cancel to play the game out and to make it count.
Then you are complaining about it...
If you are angry, maybe you are just angry about yourself?
Larfinboy (0 DX)
23 Jul 12 UTC
had I set cancel the game would not have ended, as all the other players had just set draw. I am not angry at myself I am angry that you chose to take advantage (very cleverly) when you had easy gains to make, rather than do the decent thing and end the game as everyone else wanted, because the game was unbalanced.

I tire of this.

Maybe it's because I'm young and trying to write and have grandiose hopes and dreams--shoot for the stars and I'll just land behind a desk, still it's better than having never looked skyward at all, I suppose--but I often like to think what people must have been like in those younger years "just before" they sparked greatness...what do you think? Gun Control, or Something Else--Why DO We Have So Many Shooting Deaths in the USA?
In the wake of The Dark Knight Rises shooting--condolences to all those afflicted by this horrible tragedy--I think the question bears mentioning again. I know pro-2nd Amendment folks here will say it "could" have happened regardless of gun control laws, and that crazy people will always do crazy things, and so on and so forth--but we're EASILY the most violent 1st World nation here, guys, and we allow a lot more freedom when it comes to guns...I DON'T think that's a coincidence.
