ANOTHER Reason I Won't Be Voting Red This November, It Seems...
http://news.yahoo.com/anti-immigration-tone-alienating-hispanics-162054757.html
Not in love with Obama--he's not great, not horrible...good personality, but not a commanding one, sadly--but I'm sorry, the GOP's totally turned me off...and here's ANOTHER reason...after all, what better way to win an election than to alienate the fastest-growing population in America (one I really care for, too...)

Dunecat's "No Pausing, No Canceling, No Drawing, No Bitching" World Game
So the last game turned into a clusterfuck, which sucks. This game isn't allowed to. Anyone who joins pledges to not pause, cancel, bitch or draw, no matter what, even if someone is banned. Going on vacation? Find a sitter.

We need a new italy!
Dear all, We are desperately in need of a replacement player for italy. Not the most popular of nations, I know ;) , but a crucial one nonetheless.

I love this quote. "The voice of the Internet community has been heard. Much more education for Members of Congress about the workings of the Internet is essential if anti-piracy legislation is to be workable and achieve broad appeal." - QFT!

Rules question
2 defenders fight off 4 attackers - see inside
Maniac (184 D(B))

Just suppose that all I own is Vienna and Budapest; I have Italians in Tyrolia and Trieste and pesky Russians in Galicia and Rumania. If I suspect Rum will move to Bud with Gal support and Tyr will move to vie with Tri support then does Bud-Tri and Vie-Gal defeat that attack and I keep both units? It seems right, but unfare somehow.
Dharmaton (2398 D)

Vie & Bud disappear:)
Alderian (2425 D(S))
18 Jan 12 UTC
Think of it as little soldiers on the battle field. The soldiers in Budapest start off towards Trieste. The soldiers in Trieste see this and let the ones in Tyrolia know they've got to stay in Trieste to keep it safe. The soldiers in Budapest, seeing Trieste still defended, quickly cancel their attack on Trieste and defend Budapest from the invading soldiers from Rumania. And same thing for the other set of soldiers.

That's how I look at it.
Yellowjacket (835 D(B))

You can't break support that is supporting to the place you're moving from. Unless you've dislodged it.
Alderian (2425 D(S))
18 Jan 12 UTC
YJ, that isn't what he is saying. In his scenario, Budapest is breaking the support of the move against Vienna while Vienna is breaking the support of the move against Budapest.

I have a feeling of all you are missing the point.
I believe this defense works.
Maniac (184 D(B))
18 Jan 12 UTC
How so Dharmaton, tyr-vie support is cut from somewhere other than vie and rum-bud's support is cut from somewhere other than bud
Victorious (768 D)

it will result in two bounces. Think of it this way, in real life, your army's would have fight two battles because both of the times, the other army happens to be nearby. So the result is two times 2 against 2.
ulytau (541 D)
18 Jan 12 UTC
You will fend of both attacks but show me a Russian stupid enough not to attack with Gal :) In case there's no enemy unit to cover Trieste, you are guaranteed one SC though.
redhouse1938 (429 D)
18 Jan 12 UTC
@Alderian exactly.
I think the question whether the defense works reduces to the same question as the question "can a unit that is dislodged still cut support". As far as I know he can, but somehow I never encountered the situation.

@ulytau - "You will fend of both attacks but show me a Russian stupid enough not to attack with Gal :)" I don't know how you could assume that not knowing how rest of the pieces are placed

ahh yes I see now, thanks ald. Yeah this defense works because your opponent is an idiot :P
ulytau (541 D)

Quite easily, really. Serbia and Bohemia are open. Sil, War, Ukr, Sev, BLA and Bul are pro-Russian. Mun, Pie, Ven, Alb, ADR are pro-Italian. Otherwise your analysis doesn't cover all the elements for Austrian success.

a day of remembrance
I'd just like to take this moment to remind everyone that 200 years ago we had to beat the crap out of the meddling British once again. Fortunately they've since learned their lesson and we've dominated their culture ever since.

Now if we could only get them to stop saying "lorry."

a struggle to enjoy this site at times
how do I get some reliable play time, it seems that this place is rife with Multis... I love this game, played it since 1979, online just recently, is there a better way to go about playing this game? there seem to be so many cheaters on here, is that just something I have to put up with or is there a better way?
would love some feed back on options, changes to the dealings of cheaters, or just your opinion

Europe is in financial shambles
I posted on here about ten months ago that German bonds were a good investment because the disappearance of the Euro meant the reemergence of national currencies and the German Mark ( and German bonds denominated in Marks) would gain enormously. Europe isn't letting me down.

Are GR ratings dependent on the ratio of scs a player holds with respect to another player in a draw? Or is it just YES/NO in the draw?
